It's one day later and I have never been so sore. I'm bruised, and extremely sensitive. This lady clearly is not trained in any kind of massage or reflexology. I am from out-of-state and travel to Rochester once a year for Mayo Clinic appointments. I happened to one year, by chance, make an appointment at Cloud 9 Spa for a full body massage. OMG...it was literally life-changing! I felt rejuvenated for 3-4 months. It was the most refreshing experience and, by far, THE best massage I've ever had- and I have had many over the course of my life. I can't say enough good things about Cloud 9: I am always treated to friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. I never come to Rochester without making an appointment. There are 2 locations managed by the same owner, both in the immediate vicinity and within walking distance of Mayo. Bao is always able to accommodate my medical appointment schedule with a massage, even on short notice. Qing was my masseuse last December, and she was exceptional. Love these professionals! Not a great experience. They had a special on a 60-minute full-body massage. I scheduled that service and when I arrived, waited 20 minutes alone in the waiting room before I called the spa's phone number. The woman who answered was very upset and said she was sorry, but she wasn't even in the building. She said it wasn't her fault because a co-worker was supposed to remind her and didn't. (I had made the appointment 20 minutes before, so she really shouldn't have had to be reminded.) When she finally came to the spa, I asked for the 20% off special. She said that was a bad deal and she told me "I didn't want it. I said I did want it and she pretended that there was such a language barrier that she couldn't understand. She said she would give me a 30 minute massage. She also seemed unable to understand the words "full-body massage" and decided she was only going to massage my back, no matter what I asked for. Most of the massage was done with her elbows and hurt A LOT. I told her it was too hard and she said, "It's better for you if it hurts" several times. She took a phone call WHILE torturing me, then left the room twice to have an argument with someone in another room and even continued shouting at them while she was "massaging" me. Finally, she stopped and said I needed "cupping" but it would be $39 more. (She never told me how much the initial massage cost.) I agreed, hoping it would be better than the horrible massage. She completed the cupping procedure and took a picture of my naked back with the cupping. Then she told me she "accidentally" sent the picture to some random person. I was unhappy. If you're looking for luxury spa with the robes and tea this is not the place BUT it is the place for having someone work out all the knots in your back. Don't go here! What could be worse? Read on. Poor service, let me count the ways: we arrived promptly at our appointed time, only to wait 10 minutes in the 1st Ave cold outer lobby, 4 degrees outside. Inside lobby was locked, as older women unlocks the inner door in her parka, explaining in broken English that we will be walking to a second location a block or two away. Cloud 9 (#2) is locked and dark. Our guide explains she will be "our" massage therapist. We are understandably confused. Who go now? My friend agrees as I am told the second masseuse will be available in 10 minutes. Twenty minutes later a second, equally exhausted looking women, arrives saying she is ready. I decline. All of this "service" for the "discounted" $70 an hour plus a tip; here's my tip, stay away. The reviews are horrid for a reason. Now to schedule a relaxing massage elsewhere, listen to soft music, read a book or just curl up in a comfortable chair, away from here. My friend just finished up, Underwhelmed. Massage therapist was on her speaker phone during massage making evening plans with a male friend. She tried to up-charge my friend $20 for a deep-tissue massage. Not relaxing or therapeutic. Bait and switch! Buyer beware. They advertised 30% off for relaxation and deep tissue massage, both were $68 for 60 min. There was a huge language barrier but I did tell them over the phone upon making the appointment and when I arrived that I wanted to do the relaxation massage. The masseuse did not speak much English. She said, right after starting, "you need deeper" which I assumed to mean firmer pressure. I said "ok." The massage itself was a normal to firm pressure massage; nothing special like Swedish or myofascial/trigger point release. I regularly get massages so I am pretty well-versed on the differences in technique. When it was over, and I came up to pay, I was told I owed $101 because I had requested a "special massage." Also, the sign that was on the counter was now gone and replaced with a different list of options and prices. I explained that I ordered a relaxation massage and the price I was quoted, but the cashier was insistent that because I had "requested special techniques" I owed the higher price. I argued it a bit but it was clear I wasn't getting anywhere due to her insistence and the language barrier. I'm a pretty non-confrontational person by nature, so I gave in and even tipped the girl 20% (I know). But, I will never be back and hopefully I can save some of you the same rotten experience, which is worth something. Other weirdness: they had a paper towel lining the face insert, which made it hard to breathe. They also did not ask me any questions about my medical history, medications or anything at all. I'm a physician so I know there are contraindications to certain modalities/techniques if a client has a DVT, cellulitis, cancer, neuropathy, on anticoagulants, etc. so avoid if you have any active medical conditions because they are not taking that into account. read more

Be wary. I had no idea that Minnesota has no law or requirements for training or licensing. I was visiting the Mayo Clinic and just needed a stress free moment. I was quoted one price via text, when I got there my therapist who really didn't speak English ask me about pressure and somehow apparently I asked for hot stone. I did not. I was charged over $55 more than I was quoted and than when I spoke to the manager she was back and forth with me. Really not what I needed. Very dishonest taking advantage of stressed out, sick people doing a medical vacation. I would find somewhere else to go. read more

Can't recommend as they use a bait and switch. There were two of us and we requested a 30 minute foot massage. At the end of the 30 minutes both therapist started rubbing our heads. I've had foot massages in the past were they do end with a shoulder and head massage. To our surprise they charged us an extra $40 for the head and shoulder add on. Omg, no! So many wrongs. Every review is correct, and i agree w/ 100%. Will never go back or reccomend. Theres no relaxing heated bed to climb into, given a walmart 1.99 piece of fleece as a cover up, door was left open whole massage. I stated pressure was too much at least 5 different time, still continued. I felt like dough being kneeded vack and forth on the table. The hot stone consisted of stone piles on my back side. After turning over and stone pile moved to between my legs and a weird facial massage then small light goes on, the word "done" and door closing, was how the massage ended. I get massages on a regular basis, Im here for business and just wanted to relax and this was walking distance from my hotel. I was a little taken back when I was asked to pre pay for my appointment the next day but ok.. I got to my appointment and was taken in right away. so the massge begins with Aveeno lotion.....I was like weird. The best thing about this place is the price. A 60 minute full body massage was $69 (which means $74.76 with tax) tip is extra. I have her a $20 because she has a hard job anyway. The table is tall and wide so she had to kneel on the table with me to get any leverage. She spent a lot of time on my neck, second most on my back, third most on my arms, back of my legs, and feet. She got hot and turned on the fan while I was chilly from the cold lotion. She tried to massage my face and head, but I wouldn't let her after she had done the whole back side. She didn't even massage the front of my legs after I turned over. She had no sense of personal privacy, so I had to cover the center of my tush several times. If you must have a massage at least wear a thong. I've never had that issue anywhere else. They always cover appropriately. Training is lacking. The walls did not go to the top of the ceiling so that you could hear whatever people were saying in the other rooms. Very distracting. Pay the extra $$ and go elsewhere. This was truly the worst massage I've ever had. I had made appointments for myself and my daughter for 90 minute deep tissue massages, which should have cost $129 each according to the brochure I picked up the day before. During both of our massages, the therapist left the room multiple times. Neither of us got the full 90 minutes. She spent a lot of time placing hot stones on me which really didn't add anything to the experience. When the stones were on my back, she basically just ran her hands up and down my neck for what seems like forever. She never actually massaged my neck, even after I told her that was one area that was stiff. At one point while she was doing this, another woman came in, stood right next to me and talked loudly, almost yelling, and then started poking my arm. The woman rubbing my neck abruptly got up and the loud woman sat down and took over. Then there was a weird face massage. This woman then left and someone else came in and gave me a terrible foot massage that mostly consisted of her stabbing and scratching me in the toes with her finger nails. As soon as the foot massage was done, exactly 90 minutes after we got there, they turned the overhead lights on and it was over. They never worked on my back, but spent a significant amount of time massaging my butt. Nobody ever worked on my legs or arms. My daughter described a very similar experience and we later determined that they were rotating therapists between us. In these days of COVID-19, I certainly hope they aren't doing this with non family members. The worst part was that somehow two massages that should have cost $258 turned into $301. I don't think the tax was $43. Just don't go there. I was so looking forward to taking my daughter here between all of her appointments and was so disappointed. Called this afternoon and asked how much a 1 hour pregnancy massage would be, was told by the woman $59 and that they could take me right away. I walked in and the woman took me back to the room. During the massage, the therapist said I had 5 minutes left and asked if I wanted to have my feet massaged. I said "sure." At that point it was taking a little longer than 5 minutes and I really had to use the bathroom. I was about to ask her to stop when she said she was finished. When I went to pay the woman at the front desk, she said that I owed $90 because I was pregnant and additional $40 because my feet were massaged! This is a total scam! I was told my 1-hour pregnancy massage would be $59! Beware!! Do not let them touch your feet, they will charge you an extra $40. I did not want more than an hour massage. My first question was how much a pregnancy massage was. From the time I walked in to the time I went to pay they increased the cost from $59 to $130! I ended up just paying the $105 and was so upset by the time I walked out. The worst feeling is wanting to relax during your pregnancy and instead just getting ripped off. Save yourself the trouble and take your business elsewhere! I never write bad reviews but this is just wrong! You can not tell people your service costs $59 and charge them $130 afterwards!
