This is my 300th review and I'm glad it's a great one! I'm super impressed by the service and information I was given today when I visited. I found Cloud Nine on Facebook because I wanted a second opinion on my forward helix piercing and I wanted to get the earring in that piercing downsized. From Facebook, I saw a link where you could schedule appointments for piercing services so I scheduled an appointment for a jewelry purchase and change out. When you buy jewelry from here, they will put it in for you at no cost on the day of your purchase. I had never been here before, but it was easy to find. It's really close to Woolworth. There was a parking spot available right in front. I went in and was immediately greeted and asked how I could be helped. I told them I had an appointment with Karri. I was shown the jewelry options and y'all...they have a great variety. I love that they have Neometal jewelry! I had a nice conversation with the ladies at the counter. Super nice! After I finished chatting with the ladies, I paid for my new earring. Karri came and got me a few minutes later. I told her about my concerns with the jewelry I was pierced with and she gave me some great information. Customer service is trash. Front desk lady made the process much harder than it needed to be. I tried to give them another chance but the gross (and empty.) atmosphere and the nasty attitudes of the workers drove me away. They are driving their own customers away with the filthy pricing and the lack of walk-ins. They make you pay for the price of the piercing and call it a "deposit", not to mention the extremely high prices of the piercing alone, not including the jewelry they try to sell you that's all $200+. I went in for my second lobes and the price total was $300+ for the piercing and jewelry. Karri had a nasty attitude when I politely asked for refund even though I never got the piercing. The organization is money hungry and careless. Do not waste your time going to this shop, other shops care more and charge less. read more

As soon as you walk in you're greeted and feel so welcome. Amiwe is an artist there and she takes her art so serious. She's going to look out for your safety and well-being before she does anything. I ended up getting her advice and she was very knowledgeable and honest and told me the chances of one of my piercings migrating or getting rejected. So I settled on a nose piercing and a second ear hole piercing and she was so gentle, clean, and just overall such a sweetheart. I felt so comfortable. This place deserves zero stars. I was recommended to someone who was supposingly good and an expert. The lady who pierced my right nostril jammed the long nose ring through my nose, hurting like pure hell and bleeding like crazy. She kept apologizing, saying she was nervous. I didn't know that. 2 months later, my nose ring was still raw & bleeding, causing me to let the hole close up. She charged me $60 for the nose ring, $10 for the cleaning solution & $13 tip. Caution: NOT GOOD PEOPLE! My daughter made an appt for a second piercing, which she had to pay almost $50 up front for, and when we got there they said we had to have a birth certificate (???). She said it is clearly on their website, in the reminders, etc. I told her since my daughter had made the appt I was not aware of this and surely they would not make us pay the fee, again, as that is a lot of money especially for a kid to pay for themselves. She essentially said too bad and she would have to pay, again, since it was clearly written in all reminders. I've been wanting a helix piercing for years. Last week for my birthday, my best friend surprised me with an unexpected trip to Cloud 9. I'll admit, I was hesitant about Cloud 9 because I've heard such negative reviews, especially about the friendliness of the staff. However, I'm here to tell everyone: my personal experience at Cloud 9 was aces thanks to Karri, the owner and a certified body piercer!! Karri was so patient with my best friend and I; she helped us pick the right pieces of jelwey based on best fit, she was extremely professional and also just really nice to talk to. Karri is a bad ass woman who knows what she's doing!! She took her time with each piercing, including proper placement and fit of the jelwey pieces. Karri was also phenomenal with cleaning our wounds, and instructing my friend and I on how to care for our new piercings in detail. We did not feel rushed at all, and my friend and I left the shop feeling informed and very well taken care of. Karri even offered to special order me a piece that would better fit my small ear. I cannot say enough good things about this lady or her talent! I definitely will be back to see Karri! read more

Zero stars. I got two tattoos from this place in one day and they both got severely infected the next day. They were my 9th and 10th tattoos, so I know how to treat tattoos. I have never gotten an infected tattoo until I came here My artist, Donovan, complained about his customers the entire time and made fun of my tattoo choices. Donovan made the lines on my arrow crooked and uneven. He was so hard on my arm that my friend, who is an artist at Evol Ink, said it was no wonder it got infected. What a joke this place was. Took a young coworker and his girlfriend to get their first tattoos and we were told that, despite their listed closing time of midnight, they had no tattooer on premises at 10 pm. They were simple walk in script tattoos and cloud nine couldn't handle it. The woman working the counter explained that they didn't have any artists working on Tuesdays or Wednesday's. Maybe you could advertise that? I've been tattooed in many shops over the years and have never been treated like they didn't care about our business like they did at Cloud Nine. They wouldn't even let the guy that was wanting a tattoo use the restroom, this in spite of his having come in with the intention of doing business, and both of them having spent money there in the past (piercing and pipes). Tattoo artist here acts like he's doing you a huge favor by accepting your business. He seemed pissed the whole time, barking out commands and had a general crappy attitude. There are signs on every wall saying "DON'T DO THIS" and "DON'T DO THAT". Not a pleasant atmosphere AT ALL! However, our tattoos turned out great! We went in to buy new jewelry. We walked in, meandered to the back where we found the jewelry counter and looked at it for over five minutes. The store was not busy and yet nobody greeted us. There were two people at the counter in the back and a girl walked in right after we got there and they both talked to her. Either one of them could have at least greeted us. I guess I may be a bit outside the curve but I expect tattoo artists to be a little... Temperamental maybe is the word I'm looking for. It maybe because I'm old not sure but anyway. I went to Birmingham to see my lady friend and we made plans to get tattoos together. We went to Cloud 9 and spoke to Donovan and yeah, he's a little rough around the edges. It seemed like an initial thing though, because once we got into the room with him he opened up and it became much more pleasant. He was incredibly thorough and showed a tremendous attention to detail. I was getting my piece done to match one on my opposite arm and he took detailed measurements and points of reference to make it exact. I was also very happy with the price which was less than I paid years ago for a similar job. I don't remember the names of the two ladies in the back area who hung out with us while he was doing the previous job, but they were super friendly also. Without being old and gatekeeper-y, I just personally try to remember that getting a tattoo is not getting a coffee at Starbucks. Our two thousand and whatever year customers are always right attitude is not necessarily the way these places operate. Customer service is horrible. I recently purchased some smoking accessories (dab bowl and glass nail) and the employee seemed to be in a hurry to get away from helping me even though there were no other customers in the store. The best part is the pieces she sold me did not fit together after I was assured they would. When I contacted the store the same day they informed me of their no return policy on smoking accessories which would be completely understandable if their employee did not assure me it would work after i asked profusely. I visited Cloud Nine a few days ago to get a tattoo that means something to me. The entire staff was incredibly professional, starting with the ladies working the shop in the front. All three of them were extraordinarily kind and welcoming. My tattoo artist, Donovan, was polite and made sure that I liked what I was receiving. The process went very smoothly and he obviously knew what he was doing. I have gotten tattoos in run-down, tired small town shops and overpriced, arrogant beachside shops. Literally giving it one star simply for the girl working counter. She was nice. But Donovan was atrocious!! I have three other tattoos and none of them was as horrible as this one. To start, he literally came from the back room with an attitude after leaving me and my friends sitting in the waiting lobby for ten minutes just to do nothing. When he spoke to me he was short and ill-tempered. I chalked it up to him probably having had a bad day or something. My friends and i are extremely bubbly and have altogether good energy to be around, so i figured we could cheer him up. He had several remarks about the tattoo I wanted, and i fully believe he overcharged me for it. It was a small, simple, outline tattoo (just like my other ones). I had two other tattoos done about two months ago in one sitting, and both were $120. This single tattoo with Donovan was $120. But anyways... I get to the back and he asked where I wanted my piece. I had to show him several times because he just sat there staring at me like either he did not understand or agree with where i wanted it. Finally he slaps on the stencil and i took a quick look in the mirror. The placement was still off but at that point I decided i could live with it. I lay down and we get to work. His music was loud so my friend could barely hear me talking to them (which i NEEDED to talk for reasons I'm about to explain). I got my tattoo in a sensitive area, and while i was planning on the extra pain, the amount of pain i was in was close to unbearable. I'm am NOT a person with a low pain tolerance (I actually fell asleep getting my first tattoo), but with him, I ended up having to take several breaks for a small tattoo. As I'm talking to my friend, Donovan is pretty silent EXCEPT to interrupt us several times to correct something one of us was saying (we were just having small talk about nothing to distract me from the pain). He would correct us, but then if we tried to address him directly, his answers were short and rude. Then i asked to hold my friends hand when he hit an extremely sensitive area. He immediately snapped at her and said no and then demanded i stay still. I have never had this happen before. For my third piece, which i had done at another shop, my friend was allowed back to comfort me AND she was allowed to lightly hold my hand (and did i mention the hand she was holding was connected to the arm where my third piece was going!?!) i found it rude and so did she, but i didn't argue because each artist and their skill levels are different, so i chalked it up to him just not being skilled or comfortable enough to have my friend that close while he worked. His pressure with the needle was inconsistent. At some points, I felt like he was actually ripping my flesh! I was so worried and i could smell the blood (this is the most I have ever bled from a tattoo, btw. Its still bloody so I'm going to sleep on a towel tonight. Yay!) Other times, i could barely feel the needle. He didn't see us out once we were done or even really give a farewell. He just pointed to the door and said "ok". As i was leaving, i looked and saw the needle sitting on a paper towel on his desk but nothing else, and I realized he had setup the back while i was upfront paying for my tat. Which means I did not see him pull sterile equipment out. I did not see him pull out any new ink wells. I don't even know if he did all of those things because he was already set up. Every other artist I've been to, the setup process was like the first 5 or so minutes of my appointment so that I knew and was comfortable with their equipment. when he was done, i didn't see any evidence that the items he used was new or sterile. But maybe he cleans fast so i cannot fully say. While walking back to the car, my tattoo was literally burning. I would describe it as a wearing IcyHot ointment type burn. It was intense and I have never experienced that with my other tattoos. I was pretty worried by the sensation that i might get an infection, but after reading several other yelp reviews, i have already planned to see my doctor in two weeks just to check on it (kind of preemptive, i know. But A LOT of people he has worked on has had an infection and I'm already highly suspicious that is the case for me). It's raw to the touch and still very extremely red. Once again, i have three other tattoos and im a pretty quick healer. My biggest tattoo did not even bleed. My first tattoo did but after two hours was not red or bleeding (and I would say after 8 it wasnt raw either. Just raised.) Second tattoo was raw for maybe three hours but never bled (even on the table) and was never ever red after about 45 min (enough time for the artist to do my biggest one). So I'm fully concerned and completely dissatisfied after just a few hours of a tattoo done by Donovan. read more

I had a tattoo done by Bryan a while ago and I feel like everyone should know that he is the worst artist that I have ever seen. I could of gotten better work done by a first grader. This was my first tattoo and let me say that it was the worst experience of my life. I went into get a tattoo that was a simple tracing. Bryan was unfriendly he was in a bad mood he didn't care and he traced it and he made it crooked some parts were thin some were thick. I was horrified when I saw it and he wouldn't even let me see it when he was done, he wrapped it up real fast when he was done and had a smirk on his face, and when I took it off two hours later as I was instructed I saw that it wasn't even traced properly and when I went into confront him he started getting loud and he started saying that's what you wanted!!!!!!! No, what I wanted was a simple tracing without crooked lines. The blue print looked better than the work. I went back after it healed so he can retrace it because nobody else would do it they say they don't mess with each other's work, and I go in and he starts yelling at me really loud and he was so rude and it's still It was ugly he couldn't fix it because he messed it up so bad the first time and it was extra thick let's just say now that I'm paying hundreds of dollars to get this removed. When he traced it the second time he said he was sorry that he was an asshole that he was having family problems. So I guess that supposed to justify his shitty work. If you want to tattoo I really really recommend doing a lot of research I didn't do research and I just took a chance and I'm paying the price for it now...later on I found out that the cloud 9 actually has a really bad reputation and the staff was not friendly they are horrible....Bryan a little advice for you get yourself some anger management and some art lessons. read more

I went to this business some years ago now . knowing the fear that some have of cross contamination of blood I went in armed with my latest lab results and filled out the requested form and marked the box of " HIV Poz" because I am not afraid of any one knowing that I carry the virus . Well the female behind the counter accepted my funds copied my license then read the form and asked " did U make a mistake and mark that box wrong ". Well when I openly admitted that "YES I did mark it correctly" she walked into the back and asked a male who then read the form I filled out and he vehemently said " NO " . I received my funds back and walked out promptly. Now either the business owner and or it not just the staff needs to be trained and know what rights they might be violating . I mean I was after all upfront in stating my HIV status unlike some who I bet also know they are Poz as well but will mark the NO box . read more

Ive never gotten a tattoo or piercing from here but if their body art service is anything close to their retail, I wouldnt step near their needle. They sold me a defected/broken piece of glass and when I called back 15 minutes after their purchase, they refused to do anything about it. Do not buy ANYTHING from them. They obviously do not thoroughly check their inventory to make sure they are selling functional items and withholding integrity. They could care less if they sell you a broken product.
