We had a horrible experience at Charley's. If you don't purchase a table, you can't see the drag show. They actually use a black curtain to separate the stage and bar. No one explained this to us, but they gladly took $10 to enter the club. Staff is very unfriendly and rude. Plus, there 5 gay guys in attendance--it looks like a lesbian bar. I went in on a Saturday night while visiting town for one night, and I left after one drink. It was a $3 cover charge for which I had to stand at the front, separated by a curtain as if we weren't allowed to see the show. I'm guessing it was a sold out show, but putting up ropes would have been great - at least show those who didn't have a ticket a sneak peek. (It would make people want to come back and watch it one day). The drink was poured generously but the biggest turn off was the addition of fees ($1 to use a card - both on tip and drink). The staff behind the bar were attentive, but the focus was on the other staff serving the tables behind the curtain. It was a bit disorganized and unwelcoming overall to me. They have specific places where you can't place your drink (I was standing off to the corner in the back as the bar was full, and was told owners rules - you can't place a drink here). So be cautious! Overall, to pay $3 to stand at the bar (plus a $1 credit card fee) was a bit of a turnoff for me. The show was loud and you couldn't see it so, I had one drink and left. My money went quite far just caddy corner to here, where my tips went to the bar tenders, not supplementing the merchant fees. I'm guessing some nights may be better than others but I felt a bit rushed to get in, the door staff were talking to the people behind me about their table before I even finished my transaction. Location, is great - plenty of other bars to hop, the staff behind the bar were probably a 7 or 8 out of 10 and the drinks were generous. read more

Ok, so here goes...what was once great has fallen. Local alternative/dance club that attracts a huge college, gay, lesbian and drag crowd any given night of the week. Everyone is cool and haters are self-policed by other patrons. The downside to this place has become the drag queens that seem to rule the night here and make it tiresome, liquor prices have jumped up and the lack of staff behind the bar during weekend crunch time is unforgiveable. Waitimes for a drink can be 15-20 minutes...not good Upside is dance floor and generally good music, fun atmosphere and you always see someone you know. Although few in numbers the wait staff is very friendly as well. read more

This is one of the warmest, most accepting places I've ever been. I don't drink, I can't dance, and for the most part I can't sing. I've always been greeted warmly whenever I've come here, and whenever I DD for friends they've always commented on how good and strong the drinks were. Shows here are always a blast, and the D.J.s are super friendly and will sometimes take a turn singing karaoke. read more

Drinks are strong, a little expensive, and their bartenders are quick. Great bar in that respect. Community is petentious and snobby. Sad that a place in the LGBT community is so uninviting and disconnected. The drag shows are a BLAST! Karaoke is disorganized and seems like a chore for the bar rather than an attraction, and the place itself needs a good deep clean. Not my preferred bar/club, but I try to stop by when I go out. read more

For Pocatello being a small city in red state idaho, it's a great addition to the LGBTQ community. The drinks are never watered down or weak, the staff only ever want to make your experience a positive one, and the shows are worth the money (both at the door and tipping the queens). The community in the area can be very tight knit and wanting to help each other and make sure everyone is safe, healthy, and happy. With that said, there is always room for more to be a part of the party and to be included in the fun! Some people may have negative things to say about the shows, the people, or the queens. But the reality is, that they all know what they are doing, and that they work hard to make a performance that will really entertain you! 10/10 recommend. read more

My previous review was from about my experiances here about 2-3 years ago. GUESS WHAT.... this place hasn't changed. It is still a dive bar, the restrooms need painting, the entire inside really needs a paint job. Since people smoke in there black ceilings and walls would make the place feel less run down. Turn the lights down so the alcohol can have an effect on the looks of the place. there was no seats on the toilets, but the seat was just sitting in the stall. The staff is friendly. I would give the staff 4 stars. They are doing their job in the only place they can be comfortable in Idaho. I spent a decent amount of money on drinks they are strong. The place is decorated like a highschool dance. It has a dirty feeling in it. There was a good amount of writing on the bathroom walls, instead of painting over it, looks like the management/owner used a black sharpie to mark it out. I know this place could be better, but it looks like someone just gave up on this place at least a decade or or more ago. I only will go back if I am dragged by friends, but I did not enjoy it as much as I could have. read more

I've never been to Charley's. In my town there are no gay bars when at one point there were 4. The last to close was the second longest gay bar in CA. Yes, it was a dive. But it was at least a gay dive. There hasn't been one here for many years and I , for one, miss having this place of unconditional acceptance. So Charley's might have some issues but look pass those and interact with people. People you can call family. read more

Since moving to conservative Idaho. I find it refreshing to have a place like Club Charley's, what's not to like, sure I could complain about my dislikes, but then what good is that, everyone has different tastes. The DJ does the best job ever of trying to cater to everyone's tastes, you must remember the Gay Community is diverse and of different ages. From first coming here the staff has always welcomed me and has treated me as a best friend. The place has a beauty and charm all its own, and the drinks are well made; not like some places I have lived. I've gone to clubs in San Francisco, L.A. and New York, but charley's gives you more bang for the buck. I love to dance and have fun and I find the staff wonderful and friendly. I gave charley's five stars because they earned it and deserve it, and I love everything about the place especially all the cute guys that come there. I have lived in Santa Barbara and we had 4 Gay clubs, now they have none, so I am so grateful to all the staff and patrons who support charley's, love you all! read more

This place has it's pros and cons. Pros - nice staff all around, good drinks and prices, good location, very relaxed, patrons seem nice enough. Cons, apparently it was remodeled before I moved to Poky two weeks ago and by the looks of it, it looks like it hasn't ever been remodeled. I shutter to think what it looked like before. It's a fairly open and large place but it has carpet throughout! I asked about this and the staff said there has never been any talk of getting rid of it. So people spill their drinks, it's a smokey bar, and what do you think it will smell like lol? This place would get 5 stars, given it's the only gay bar in a small town, but I'm knocking off 2 stars because the staff/owners have atrocious taste with regard to what an interior of a gay bar should look like. It's just awful inside. But, I do like to go once a week and hang out and feel safe/included and around good people. Horrible taste though in aesthetics, just fucking horrible lol, and they're gay on top of it! read more

This used to be a great bar. Now the bar tenders suck. They can't handle big crowds or any stressful situation. I waited in line for 20 minutes just to get a beer. They had no system to get the drinks out quickly. If I wasn't there for the drag show I would have left based on the overall service. The cocktail waitresses were just as bad. One came to my table took one persons order then moved to the next without taking the rest of my tables orders. Fail. Ugh the "dj". The dj needs to update his music. Justin Timberlake's 'sexy back' isn't a hot song anymore so stop playing it and stop playing the other 80's 90's music. It's obvious when the dance floor evacuates that you are not doing your job. The drag shows are the only thing entertaining about the bar. I have always enjoyed seeing the Angels perform. read more

Charley's is a very distinctive spot to chill with buddies. We experienced beverages and simply appreciated the surroundings. The vacation consume food selection also supplied some delicious choices. The area was adorned magnificently for Xmas. We experienced a fantastic waiter too. read more
