This was my first experience with Club Med or any all inclusive for that matter. The closest experience to this style of travel would be a cruise and I enjoyed those a lot more. Let me break down my experience: The food was just okay. It looked amazing but the taste was always just okay. Some foods were delish but as a first timer it was really all luck if you picked the right entrees. I did appreciate that most of the lines were fairly short and moved at a decent pace. Normally I don't like to pay extra for excursions because the trip itself costs enough and there are plenty of activities at the resort. However! I have had some great excursion experiences so I always like to check them out. Whether you like excursions or not: DO THE SEA TURTLE RELEASE!! It was about $90 a person and worth every single penny!! My girls and I loved it. Once in a lifetime experience for sure. The hotel itself, to me, was very old and out of date. The walls were made with cheap stuck-o and there were large cracks all over the room. There was a huge spider and nest inside our room that I was hoping wouldn't become a problem because I was way too afraid to touch it. At night, all sorts of crazy scary bugs and mosquitoes were getting into our room. Next time I will try and look for a location that's more of a hotel style where the rooms are all indoors. Not the motel style where the second you open your door the bugs just swarm in! Alright so, I will give credit to the amount of entertainment offered at this resort. I was very pleased with the trapeze and the circus show! That was a ton of fun! And the kids club and club counselors were the absolute best. My husband said he felt the alcohol in all of his drinks and maybe it was because I didn't drink too much of my drinks or because I picked drinks that are too low in alcohol content (like Piña coladas) but I didn't really feel any alcohol in my drinks. I know there was because I would taste the alcohol, but maybe it wasn't top shelf stuff. Which is fair for an all inclusive with unlimited drinks. The dining hours were generous so I can't complain too much. For a normal human being, food is always available. But for a young family trying to feed a 3 and 5 year old who are constantly hungry because they are either swimming in the pool or the ocean all day, that 2 hour window the dinning buffet room is closed was pretty stressful. Thank gosh they had baby food available all day long. My 3 year old lived off of that apple sauce. Hopefully I will be able to enjoy more Club Meds in the future. Best place I've ever stayed- hands down. Most beautiful location; a secluded, private beach with SO MUCH to do for all ages. My partner and I went for our anniversary just last week and were absolutely blown away by the beauty of the resort, the cleanliness, the wonderful service, the activities (which include sailing, kayaking, archery, tennis, and so much more.) And the food! we will be dreaming about their food the rest of our lives. It is all inclusive but the food tastes 5 star. Absolutely stunning location & the staff is just incredible. This place is tired, it needs a refresh. The food is very basic and gets very old after a few days. The kids were OK with it for longer but they were just happy it had ice cream every day. Had a great swimmable beach though that was nice. Some of the staff were great some of them very rude. I made an official complaint about one of them. The price is decent though although if flying from the US it can get expensive. Our flights from CA were as much as the the stay. Doubt we will return. read more

This is a review from March, 2022 - after they were closed for a year for "renovations". Long story short - the food appears to be safe to eat, that's the only good thing to say that comes to mind. Here is a slightly longer version, but I won't bore you with too many complaints: - Rooms are beat up. Really beat into a pulp - see pictures. - Rooms are dirty. Every surface was smudged and dirty. - Everything that could be broken was broken. AC barely ran. Little fridge was off and rattled like a tractor when we tried it. Cracks everywhere. - Food was lame, so was the bar. That's the right way to describe it - not bad, not unsafe - just terribly pathetic. - Main restaurant had ridiculous lines inside next to food stations. Usually, there were only a couple of okay things to eat and herds of people lined up to get those. I'm okay with 5-7 people ahead of me in a buffet... but not 30!!! I ended up munching on random things that I could get without waiting. - I also ended up "cooking" my own food using random ingredients from the buffet. I could make a decent Pico De Gallo or even a faux-Egg Benedict by scrounging bits and pieces. - WiFi and internet service was in an insult... literally. If you imagine a service that would be spotty, slow, and random in the most annoying way imaginable - this was way worse. - Shuttle from the airport was stifling hot and packed with people like sardines - Grounds are beat. Landscape is dying. Lots of dead, dry grass. - The list keeps going, but you must see the theme by now We stayed at a lot of all-inclusive resorts, and came back from Barcelo in Cancun not too long ago, so we have lots of references for how a good or at least an okay all-inclusive should look like. Please note that this review is from Sept 29th - Oct 5th, 2019. I took notes daily so that I could get around to writing this lengthy review. For those that don't enjoy reading Yelp novels, here is a quick overview. This location rates more of a 3.5 than a 3, but not quite good enough for a 4-star. The absolute best part about this resort is the staff. They do their best, sometimes going above and beyond, to help you have a wonderful time. My complaints are with the rooms, the weather and the adult activities in the rain. CONS ~ The pool was drained and gutted the 3nd day we were here. No one ever told us that we wouldn't be able to use the pool during our stay. This was planned construction, not a last-minute accident or emergency. I do water aerobics twice a week to keep my blood circulating and not having the pool was unacceptable. They do offer a Quiet Pool for adults only, but it was only 2.5" deep. ~ Our first room had a leak outside our bathroom and in the area we would get dressed. At first it seemed ok, since it wasn't in a living area, but then the bathroom started flooding because of the toilet. We called the next day and they sent someone out to fix it. Temporarily it seemed ok, but then I had to demand another room because the ceiling was bubbling up and there wasn't a dry spot on the floor. Eventually we got a new room. Perhaps this was a mistake. Every night after the move, we were bitten in our sleep. Hindsight says that the leak was WAY better than the bites. Our three cans of bug spray didn't do the trick ~ The ocean is closed? What's that you say? We opted to come here during this season, so we expect that the weather may not always be great. We figure that most children are in school during this time. Ok, back to the ocean being closed. We are sailors. Well, I like to sail and she actually is a sailor. So I decided that since they offered sailing lessons, this would be a good time to learn so that I could sail her boat one day. We were turned away the morning and afternoon session on Monday. One of the gentlemen told us that the ocean was closed so we couldn't go out. Ok, so tell us that Club Med won't let us go out because of the weather, not that the ocean was closed. The ocean is a vast body of water that can not be closed. However, I later learned what the gentleman meant by that. Club Med follows the guidelines of the government and if they feel it isn't safe, then we can't go out from Club Med shore. Plenty other boaters were out, but they were not from Club Med. ~Bites at dinner. On Thursday they have "White Dinner", which is out on the lawn. The concept is lovely, but the execution, not so much. Earlier in the day, we asked Danny, Restaurant Assistant Manager, if they had sprayed the lawn (only because we had gotten bit so much on Wednesday, the first night in our new room). She stated that they had and that they always do. We were hopeful. Unfortunately whatever they use isn't strong enough to deter the insects. The table that we were scheduled to be seated at had too many bugs on the table before we ever sat down. I apologized to the people already at the table, but said I couldn't make it through a meal here. One of the guests showed me a huge bandage she had received from someone at Club Med to cover her bites. She had several bandages. OUCH! So we were seated at another table and the bugs hadn't made it to the table, but they were on the seat and/or bottom of the table cloth. There was a guy who stood there whacking the bugs around me. I felt uncomfortable having him stand there and do that for me, but more importantly, I was too concerned that I would be bit all over the place again. Neither of us finished our meal as we wanted to go wash away the bugs. By the way, dessert would have been out of the question as bugs were making their way to the chafing dishes. ~Daytime adult activities were limited. Day one we were just getting settled in for the afternoon. Day two was storming and by Day three we wanted some Club Med adult activities not affected by the rain. I opted to grab a book and she solved her Sudokus. The teens seem to have the most activities as they have their own room with backgammon and things like that. Maybe the adults should be allowed to join during stormy weather PROS ~The staff is phenomenal. They are what make this place enjoyable. -Manu & Daniel - awesome bartenders -Flavia & Juan - phenomenal, attentive waitress and waiter. We are longtime members of Club Med. It rained for 5 days 24/7. All of the GO's disappeared after the introduction presentation on Day 1. Food was awful (there's no kitchens apparently). To make it up for the tropical storm, no activities were organized inside by the GO's. (The staff - outside of the GO's - was phenomenal.) Zero initiative from the GO's to interact with the GM's. Poor internet connection. Only a couple of TV stations working. No hot water in the rooms. Poor organization. We had been to Club Med Ixtapa twice before. We just got back from a family trip here and are already talking about going back because we all had such a wonderful time. Going into it we were a bit worried because of the age spread in our group (30s to 70s), but with so many activities it was easy keeping everyone entertained and happy. While the younger crowd was taking advantage of all the sports in the afternoon, the older members were relaxing on the absolutely stunning beach or grabbing a drink at the bar. And then there were so many activities everyone in our group could enjoy together like petanque, the release of the baby turtles (so adorable and just majestic), the amazing food all day, and the fun productions each night! This was our first time to a Club Med resort in a while, but we learned that really your stay is what you make of it so everyone could get exactly what they wanted out of the vacation. All the activities were amazing, but really it's all the G.O.s that made our visit extraordinary. Every single member of the staff there was so incredibly friendly, gracious, and gregarious. While everyone was amazing, there were a few who really made our trip. I'm not sure how Dylan managed to be everywhere at the resort, but he was, and always ready with a joke or asking how your day was going. I was not planning on doing yoga at all, but Yuki was such an amazing teacher the first morning that I ended up going back every day. Paulo at watersports was such a great guy and a very patient teacher while we were struggling on the catamarans. Finally, everyone at the trapeze was just absolutely amazing. There's so much coordination going on there making sure we're both safe and having a good time, but Chucho, Holly, Pablo, and Ceci made it happen. My child had an amazing time at the 11-13 teens club. She said Ariel was amazing and wanted to go back every day!

We had such a good time there as a family of 3. The resort looks really nice, the buffet food is amazing every day, the staff is very polite, and the activities are a lot of fun. I personally did kayak, trapeze, pickleball, walk on the long beach, swimming in the ocean with big waves, archery, ping pong, and many more are available. The vibes are awesome and you do not get bored. The shows by the staff are so much fun and they invite people to dance every night, which is fun to watch too. The only issues we had were very minor. The resort reopened in december 2021 and the staff is not entirely trained (one did not know how to make latte and other one did not know how to make margarita; no big deal). Also the room felt like it was closed for a long time, most likely during the pandemic: we just left the window open day and night. Did I mention the iguanas on the property? Those are fun to watch. Make sure to catch the sunset over the Pacific every day, it's amazing. read more

Kids club staff are great and make a fun experience for the kids. Thank you for making my kids so happy! As for the adults... They need to pay their bartenders better or allow tipping. A few bartenders seem to be always angry if you order something slightly unique or if you make a mistake in your order. I wouldnt want to work in poor conditions, if that's how they feel, but do I need to feel their tension every time I order a drink? Owners/management need to focus on making the staff happy, in turn, the guests will be happier! Also, they need to change the title of the pool/beach wait staff. "Beach Boy?" Come on. This is 2018, not 1938! Food was very good. It was always fresh and the staff are very nice. They need some serious design thinking to improve the dining experience for those with families. It's very difficult to enjoy your meal with kids since there is no way to get food from the buffet to the table without multiple trips. The boutique was extremely overpriced. $5 shades for $50! Rip-off. I think everything must be overpriced. Load up on essentials and bring backup hats and shades to avoid being gouged. Also sadly found the "upsell" is becoming pervasive here, but can be avoided. I think this average review is on the owners of Club Med, not the staff. The spirit of Club Med is gone as it's now more of a real estate company unloading great assets than an Experience company focussed on the pleasure of its guests. It's a shame. If possible it should have no star at all. The food is so disgusting that it seems to be jail food prepared offsite and heat it there. There is no hot water at all and two tv channels with on and off poor wifi connection. While it is simply bad luck if it rained for most of the stay, club med takes pride in its all inclusive experience, sport activities and animations ... NONE! The staff was MIA and we were basically left in our room with no options at all. For the price you pay, it is not a trip worth experiencing at all. This was our 2nd time going to Club Med Ixtapa, the last time was 5 years ago. Unfortunately, Club Med Ixtapa has really gone downhill. Instead of improving during the pandemic shutdown, it has gone the other direction. For starters, the bus that picked us up from the airport was so old it barely made it to the resort. We were going about 10 miles per hour and it stalled out 4 times. Instead of taking a half hour it took an hour or more to get to the resort. There was no water given on the bus either. In previous years we were met with water and beer! The room we stayed in, in the Iguana section, was old and outdated, musty and moldy. The air conditioner did not work. Instead of putting us in a new room immediately the front desk argued with us and sent a maintenance man who tried but failed to fix it late into the night. The next day we were moved to a new room. The hot water went out in the new room. Go figure. The front desk staff were rude and inconsiderate throughout our trip. The rest of the staff was friendly and nice. I'm giving this place 2 stars for the food and the wait staff. The food as always was excellent and the wait staff at the restaurant terrific. But we will not be returning to Club Med Ixtapa again. read more

This was our 7th time to ClubMed and 4th time to Ixtapa. It was very bad and my family will not go there again. Food was horrible, not many choices and the same lunch, dinner and every day.... All my previous trips food was a highlight, but not anymore.... ClubMed ambience is not there, French ppl and ppl that loved to do sports are no linger there.... No promised renovations either.... First time I'd ever done one of these all-inclusive-resorts. I cannot express how perfect the trip was. It should be noted, we went the end of August, which is when they are the least busy. I loved this though because we didn't have to wait for anything. Walk up to the bar and they were ready to pour. There was absolutely zero waiting for anything. The staff were incredible. They were amazingly friendly and very eager to help out in any way possible. By the end of the trip, we were on a first-name basis with a lot of the staff. The food was excellent. The desert and homemade bread stations were incredible. Honestly, we'll probably end up going back in a year or two. Don't go there during rainy season. We were there with our three kids expecting for something to do. And nothing was proposed. They spent the longest and most boring time on their lives. Here we are with a couple ideas for teens during rainy season: - table tennis tournament - darths tournament - playing cards. - pool tournament - swimming with rain. - circus on the covered area. Planning to spend the entire final full day off of the resort property and in town so that I can have a good drink, eat some good food and do some fun activities. One of the members of our party had cash stolen out of her room as she left it hidden I might add because her safe did not work. The safe in mine and my neighboring rooms did not work either and the exterior door would not even close in our room, unless slamming it multiple times. read more

It is no wonder this family-friendly gem has a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor. It was our first Club Med experience though not our first all-inclusive in Mexico. We chose this resort (village, as they call it) due their kids club for ages 4-17. Activities such as Archery, Trapeze, Tennis, Ping Pong, and Sailing keep them busy all day long. There are plenty of activities for the grownups too, or you can just lounge in one of the shady cabanas/chairs/hammocks on the sandy beach. We chose an upgraded suite (only slightly higher) and could not have been more pleased with the comfort level and separate quarters for the kids. The highlight of the trip for me was surprisingly, the food. Having been to several five-star all-inclusive resorts in Cancun/Playa Del Carmen, we did not have high expectations for this smaller, quaint resort. The El Encanto restaurant where we had our buffet meals had a spectacular view of ocean and perfect for sunset dining. Each day carried a different theme in the restaurant so you will never be bored. Some highlights were Seared Foie Gras, Fresh Ahi Tuna Sashimi, Flank Steak, Chicken Tostada, cook-to-order breakfast station and custom salad bar during lunch. The executive chef is French, and so is the dynamic young GM, Julien "Juju" Lettraz. He runs a tight ship and an amazingly warm and friendly staff. Tipping is not expected here, but we found that a few dollars/pesos go a long way. Regardless of tips, the staff will go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. Among the stellar staff are Laura and Luis (hosts), Javier (breakfast), Emmanuel (Poker/Soccer), Carlos (front), Juanmar (photo), Oscar (kids club), Juan, Jesus, & Jose (busboys) and Fide (salad bar). We went with high hopes based on reviews and (photoshopped) pictures online. Little did we know we were headed to an absolute dump where it literally smelled like sewage in some areas of the property. The only good thing was the food and staff. We met some very kind employees who were dedicated to their jobs, but if you're looking for an actual resort, go somewhere else. The buildings, furniture, pool, even pool filtration system were so outdated, I felt like I was time warped into the 80s. Our toilet was leaking, the seal around the sink was moldy, our headboards on our beds were literally painted over, our tv was on an EASEL, and there was this random stuffed parrot in the corner of the kids room just staring at us. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more but I don't want to waste all your time. Let's just say I wouldn't come back here even if someone paid me. The finest resort I have come across. The staff, location, food is excellent, the activities for adults and children are amazing. The maid service is great, everyone there deserves a tip. Just plan your day, look at the app or bulletin board in lobby for the days activities. I was the yoga teacher there and the students were so pleased to experience the love. Get a massage at the spa, they are amazing. Try archery, sailing, and the theatre shows nightly are sometimes interactive ending up on the dance floor. The Mariachi night was fabulous. I was there for superbowl and valentines --amazing. Superbowl big screen, tecatate, and Valentines a rose for us all. I love the clothing attire themes, black one night next white. I had a really fun time at Club Med Ixtapa with the exception of a few things. Everyday, the children have a blast. The food wasn't even the least bit bad. The beach was beautiful and nice. There were SO many activities for the kids. The biggest problem I had was a stolen phone. Every morning, he would go lay towels on the lounge chairs to reserve them. One morning, we decided to bring all of our stuff down there and leave them by the lounge chairs. My wife volunteered to stay down with all of our stuff, while we went back to our room and finished our morning stuff. Afterwards, we came back to the lounge chairs so I could get my backpack. I'm sure you know what happens next.... It was stolen. It contained almost $1000 worth of things. Some of the people that work here are pretty shady. A lot people walked on to the hotel beach. Some of them were vendors. Some of them looked homeless. This made us not want to leave our children alone and let them wander off. I do recommend coming here. I also recommend locking all expensive things in your hotel room safe. read more

Very outdated and dirty rooms, food is low quality and the same every day, drinks are undrinkable, grounds are not taking care of ( dry grass, rotten mangoes from the trees are everywhere) , beds are very uncomfortable, we had a "queen bed" made of 2 small beds put together with a whole in the middle, the pillows are old and smelly. They are very strict with the mask policy and if for some reason you forgot one be ready to be scolded, on top of it they don't provide masks for the guests but send you to the gift shop to buy one for 12$. Imagine booking your long waited vacation six months in advance based upon prior vacation with club med at another resort and arriving safely to your room only to find out a letter sitting on the bed informing you that both main pools and the surrounding areas would be closed for renovation as of September 30th . The spectacular pools had been the reason why we chose this resort. This is what happened to us on our recent trip that started September 28th through October 5th. had we known this, we would have not booked this trip as it ruined our vacation and made things extremely difficult as my husband was recovering from knee replacement surgery and needed the pool to continue his aquatic therapy and exercises. We basically had no choice but to find other venues and as a result incurred additional expenses and had to endure considerable inconvenience. The constant drilling noise and the look of the construction zone was nothing close to what we had imagined our trip to be.to top it all, despite me writing a formal complaint to the hotel on September 30th 2019, a month into it I have not heard a word from Club med. This is definitely the best resort in Mexico. I did kids club and I loved one worker named Stevie name tag says STITI. There's also something very unique, it's a trapeze it's part of the circus and if you're really good at it you can do a program called "catch." It has a great variety of activities including Tennis, Bocce ball and a beautiful beach. Several of the workers say it's one of the better Club Meds. I've been twice to Club Med Ixtapa. That's the best vacation ever and I hope everyone could do it. That's why all-inclusive resorts are amazing. (The free drinks are awesome) read more

So I would like to start off we had an amazing time. The weather was perfect, the shows were great and the pool lovely!! This place is the perfect destination for kids (mine are 4 and twins 2 years old). I want to give a huge shout out to Danny (manager of kids club) who helped me book our old nanny we used last year right away). Jose - who was my knight and shining armor - every time my kids were running off somehow he would be there and keep them entertained :) and of course our amazing baby sitter/mommy helper who was with us for 10 hours a day and the kids adored her, thank you Yolanda!! . This is actually our second time going here - we went here in July 2018 and April 2019. However I was SO disappointed in the food. There was no diversity what so ever and I honestly think it could have been food from the previous day. I don't know if management changed or what but I truly hope it improves. Club Med was recently bought out and is nowhere near the quality place it used to be. The buffet was terrible, worse than a carnival cruise, so after one night of buffet food we traveled into town for every meal. There is one other restaurant on site which accepts reservations at 12:00- mind you, it's only open a few days a week. We waited in line starting at 11:50 to make a reservation, with 8 people in front of us and by the time we got to the front there were NO more reservations. Absolutely ridiculous! We never had a hot shower. Oh, and unless your child is over 8 there are zero water activities they are allowed to do, even with an adult! No kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing- nada! And, the drinks are terrible and totally watered down. Positives? The staff is very nice, the workers at the kids club are wonderful. Overall the high-end resort all inclusive club med experience is gone and I feel sorry for the kind staff who try so hard. We'll take our 4000.00 elsewhere next time. read more

Just spent a week with a group of families with children of all ages and we all had a great time. The kids were entertained all day by the incredible GO's. The kids club was a true hit. My 5 year old daughter was in love with Tammy and Kevin at the trapeze. They worked with her and on the 5th day she was doing knee hangs, Yes at the age of 5. Tammy and Kevin had 2 meals with Bella to talk to her and make sure she felt safe. Great job.. Rafa was a GO who was entertaining all of us all of the time. We never knew where he was going to show up or what he was going to be wearing. He was hysterical. The chief of the village was rarely in his office. He was all over the resort making sure we all had a great time. Well worth the money and the time to get there. read more

We were here last year and loved it. Not so much this year. There is absolutely no quiet spot on site; children run all over uncontrolled by their parents. Large groups reserve all the beach lounges. We are very disappointed and will not return next year. read more

Club med was an awsome trip. This was my family's second time going and we all loved it. Since I am a teen I went to the teen club and immediately felt welcome. The GO's, were so kind, funny, and pretty awsome. I would recremend any teen to go there to make friends. The teen club GO's also make the trip really fun for all. My family and I have been here 3 years in a row now and the experience never fails to be a success. The GO's are super friendly, the atmosphere is great for kids and adults alike. There is never ending activities to do and if that's not your scene the beach is a great place to relax. The food is amazing and the themed nights are fun as well. There are people to meet if you have kids and they want to do the kids club as well. It was a great experience and we will definitely continue our tradition next summer of choosing Ixtapa, Club Med. read more
