So returning back to club Pilates studio after a long break was exciting for me and I'm sure for the local San Leandro residents.

I'm not an athletic person, haven't been since I was younger and I've improved a lot through my pure barre routine. It can be intimidating at first but when you find an instructor that helps you build momentum and grow, you'll see great progress. I like the sense of community at this location in particular. Jocelyn has to be one of my favorite instructors, she offers feedback and leads a fun class with motivating tunes. Want to challenge yourself and stay toned? Join PB Oakland, it's different from the average workout class - especially since it's not like "boot camp" with intense cardio. That wasn't for me and I slowly fell in love with PB! When I arrived, I was only two minutes late to my class and was told I was not allowed to enter because there is absolutely no grace period. What made the situation worse was the way it was handled. The interaction at the front desk felt very rude, especially coming from someone who identified himself as the owner. The tone in which I was spoken to did not feel welcoming or understanding at all. I completely understand that studios may have policies about late arrivals, but this was never mentioned on the website or in any of the booking communications. Had I known there was a strict no-grace-period policy, I would have made sure to arrive much much earlier as the parking in the area isn't the best. Because of how the situation was handled, it didn't make me feel comfortable rescheduling the class. I've had much better experiences at other studios, and it's disappointing because I was genuinely looking forward to trying this one.

I have also danced as an adult at half a dozen other studios here in the Bay Area. Conservatory of Classical Ballet is a truly exceptional studio for children and adults alike to learn and practice the art of dance. The quality of instruction, the standard of the curriculum, the inclusiveness, and the kind atmosphere are unmatched. CCB produces professional level dancers, and also gently nudges the most entry level students into the fold of poise and grace that result from consistent classes, not to mention the strength and agility you can't help but develop. Adults and children alike will find a home in the classes here. Their welcoming and patient energy makes nervous beginner dancers feel at home, while their more advanced classes are challenging and productive for even professional dancers. They also offer Pilates classes, Ms. Sarah who teaches it is fab. Ms. Ann and her crew of wonderful teachers are a gift to the community of Bay Area dancers.

I began taking classes several years ago when I was north of 40 and only wish I started sooner. I was looking for a way to gain flexibility, improve my posture, learn a technique that had a rich history and ideally combine all of the above with a practice that would bring focus and mental clarity. I had taken yoga but wasn't hooked and considered marital arts but was afraid of getting injured (already having suffered several broken ribs and a chipped a tooth from Kung Fu years earlier). Other techniques, like Pilates, didn't seem to have the rich history I was searching for. Then a friend mentioned she had been taking ballet classes. Voila! I always thought that if one didn't start ballet by age 5, it was too late. So as a middle-aged newbie, I wasn't sure what to expect. I started with the Saturday beginning adult class with Miss Deborah once a week. I highly recommend this particular class for those who have never taken ballet. She teaches the classical Vaganova method and starts at the very beginning going through positions, how to point one's foot and posture. Fast forward many years later, I now take class several times a week, have participated in The Nutcracker performances and even own pointe shoes! Ballet has taught me patience, practice and perseverance. Some days are definitely better than others. It's challenging, it can hurt, but it's so worth it. Looking back on the progress made is so rewarding and the friendships built along the way are an added bonus. Miss Ann brings years of experience as a professional ballet dancer to her studio. Her choreography is brilliant and she excels at providing the most subtle corrections that bring vast improvements. You will learn proper technique no matter what level. She and the other instructors all bring their own unique style and creativity, and with each class there is always something new to learn. I can't recommend this studio enough. There are classes for every level and every age, so don't be shy. Ballet is for everyone!

The space they have created is so welcoming for beginners, and they foster an environment where anyone--no matter where they are in their fitness journey--can get the workout they are looking for. The instructors are attentive to everyone in class and are incredibly supportive. I would also like to show my appreciation for three instructors whose classes I generally take on a weekly basis. Claudia is one of my all-time favorite fitness instructors that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have taken her Pilates reformer class, hybrid mat class, and TRX class. I consider her coaching the primary reason I was able to break through the fitness plateau I was experiencing before coming to the studio. She is extremely knowledgeable about the workouts and can create modifications on the spot to fit you and your fitness goals. I go Tina's Barre class, and what I appreciate about it is the structure, as well as how unique each session is. Her instruction style is very supportive, and she is beyond cognizant of everyone in the room. In every class, she checks in on each client to make sure they have good form. I never thought I would enjoy taking Barre, but I now consider myself a true Barre enthusiast. Audrey is another amazing instructor. I generally take her reformer class and Exo Chair class. Audrey's classes are so welcoming and engaging. Her workouts are challenging, but due to how she engages the class, time seems to fly by because we are all just having fun. As I stated at the beginning of this review, I have never advocated this much for a fitness studio, and I will continue to be a client for the foreseeable future and then some. Thank you, Jen, and the rest of the IMX Studio team!

For someone who dislikes exercise, getting sweaty and waking up early, IMX Pilates has completely changed the way I feel and think about exercise. This form of fitness is perfect for me who has chronic aliments like a bad back/knee, weak shoulder, sensitive tailbone and hurt foot. Movements can be modified to your level or current condition. It can be challenging if you push yourself. It's a full body low impact workout that works your whole body and muscles you didn't even know existed! I can attest that my physical weaknesses before going to Pilates have either healed or strengthened. When I had rotator cuff surgery, Pilates was a great rehab exercise. The best part are the instructors esp the owner. She knows you by name and makes a point to make sure your form is correct, and nothing is too overwhelming or hard. She has hired some amazing instructors who truly love teaching and doing Pilates. They won't teach anything they wouldn't do themselves. And EVERY class is different. You never will be bored! The studio is exceptionally clean; the reformers are spaced out well (not cramped); the equipment is well cared for and lots of options for hand weights, wedges, cushions to accommodate your back, head etc.. and its not difficult to get a spot in class if you register in a timely manner. It's been one of the best commitments I have ever made.

If you go to the Crunch Gym in Alameda and then the Bladium -- you'll have a new appreciation for space and room to breathe. The remodeled men's locker room is cool -- most importantly -- it is clean and does not stink. I only use the facility for cardio and free weights. The machines and free weights are probably 30+ years old (seriously), but they work and I like the old school steel plates. The entire facility has been under construction and it looks like they're going to make the facility like something on par with the NFL Combine's fitness facilities. I learned during the pandemic that new weights and weight machines cost a fortune, but I'm hopeful they will update the equipment. Most importantly, I hope they extend the hours of operation on the weekends. Indeed, their hours of operation should be 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. (minimum) every day. Oh, there is always free/available parking and the gym manager is extremely responsive/professional. Bottom line: this gym has the space and location to become the best fitness facility on the East Bay -- but they must extend their hours and spend a small fortune on new weights/weight machines. The images I have included with this review are dated, but they give you a good idea of the size of this place and show the degree to which they are re-doing the place!
