Cardio Plein Air

Cardio Plein Air

(1 review)

Plateau-Mont-Royal

Cardio Plein Air is a business that organizes outdoors training in parks across the province. I can…read moreonly base my review on the training that goes on in Parc Lafontaine (Montréal), because that's the only one I have tried. The one type of training I have done with them is "Cardio Poussette" (Cardio Stroller). As the name suggests, it is for parents who want to (or have to) bring their baby along to their workout. It takes place all year round, but in winter time, you have to take your kid on a sleigh (but I only did the summer session). Cardio Plein Air also offers other types of workouts for adults on their own and for children, but I have not tried those. For Cardio Poussette, each session lasts 1.5 hour and occurs twice a week (unless you pay for a VIP membership, in which case you may go more often). We get to do cardio-oriented training, and at the end of each session, we do some tonus exercises and stretching, using a mat and elastic band that we carry around during the workout. The fact that it is taking place in Parc Lafontaine plays a large part in my positive rating: it is a beautiful park, it is large enough that you don't have to go over and over again along the same path, and it is well shaded, which is much appreciated on hot summer days. One downside, however, is that it is so large that it is difficult to find the group if you arrive late and people have already left the meeting point. One positive point is that the three instructors I have met are well trained, nice, flexible, and they provide feedback to participants to help them do the exercises correctly. Overall, I really enjoyed meeting other moms; it is a good way to make new friends. I think 1.5 hour is a bit too long for many babies (I would say about half of them handle it well, but mine needs to feed or to get out of the stroller and move around before the end). I am in pretty good shape, and I feel the workout is challenging enough. They welcome children as young as 2 weeks old, and although it seems like a pretty intense workout for new moms, it is always possible to bring it down by just walking instead of doing the squats, skating, etc. with the group. Overall, I'm glad I signed up!
