Club Rose Bay - which is just fancy speak for Rose Bay RSL - has one of the best locations of any RSL that I've come across, right on the water over looking the bay that it's named after. Whereas the main bar area helps it live up to its rather unflattering nickname of "God's waiting room", upstairs you will find the Deck Bar with wonderful views over the water. Although not open all the time, you are welcome to take drinks up there if they don't have a function on. Having recently undergone renovations to pretty much double the size of the space, it is a fantastic setting for a function - especially if the weather holds up!
Back in the main bar, you have everything an RSL promises - cheap beer and bad carpets. The locals propping up the tables usually disperse before 6pm so it can be a good place to come if you just fancy a quiet beer. Friday nights get pretty busy for the meat raffle, but apart from then you're unlikely to be fighting for space!
There's also a priced bistro that serves a decent meal and has daily specials, so it can be a pretty cheap visit, which is more than can be said for most other places in one of the eastern Sydney's priciest suburbs! read more
