Wow, a well maintained, full service recording studio right in Madison Wisconsin! Floating floor to…read moremanage low frequencies, vocal rooms and a nice open room for band recordings. Highly recommended if you need pro recording, mixing and mastering. Top recording engineer Landon is your technical Sherpa, sure to make your recordings sound their best.

Mike Olson and his crew at Blast House Studios and Madison Music Foundry are an instrumental (no…read morepun intended) piece of the puzzle that makes up the Madison Music scene. Most importantly to me, they have great staff of professional musicians that spend countless hours teaching young musicians how to be better at their specific musical interest. My son participated in their 'Summer Rock Workshop' this last Summer and had a fantastic experience. My son already has a passion for music but the Rock Workshop experience added to that passion. He was able to spend two solid weeks in a well managed studio with a professional sound engineer and 4 other kids that he just met. These kids formed a group, and wrote three original songs in two weeks. These songs were mixed and edited by the Blast House team, and the Rock Work shop ended with a live gig at High Noon Saloon. What a great learning experience for our son and for us, as parents. Mike also let our son use the studio very recently for free so that our son could have his senior photos taken in a place that he cares about. It's businesses like this that allow local musicians of all ages to grow and nurture their talent.

This place is really special. I've attended shows, played shows, and recorded twice now at the…read moreWillyMag and never had a bad time. If you have the opportunity to go, do not miss it. Owners Tessa and Mark are skilled, friendly, and creating a very unique atmosphere there. Recording: I've had the opportunity to record in several studios across the Midwest, and WillyMag is head and shoulders above the rest. It is an all-analog studio. They do not even dump the analog sounds to digital to mix - one of the only (maybe the only??) places in the country who do not mix digitally. This anachronistic and highly-technical method seems a bit intimidating to a non-gearhead musician like myself, but Tessa and Mark explain things in a patient and not condescending manner when you ask questions. Their equipment is top of the line from cables all the way up to the 7' reverb plate. As recording engineers, Tessa and Mark are very good at listening to what you say you want and helping create that sound. Furthermore, the pricing is reasonable and they work with you to find a way to make it happen. Attending Shows: Always a low price, thoughtfully curated line-ups, excellent sound quality, an intimate setting. Yes, it gets a bit hot in the summer, but there is free water. It is a substance-free area, so family friendly, and the shows start and end early. It fills a very important niche in the Madison music scene with those parameters, and I have seen some excellent shows there. Playing Shows: Extremely low key, one of the more enjoyable places to play in town. It is a small stage, so you're right next to the audience, which tends to result in repartee with the crowd and more stripped-down performances. Tessa is clear and efficient when it comes to explaining set times and facilitating gear sharing to make shows move quickly.
