The other side of the road became the new home of Next Clearance. "Why doesn't Clydebank have any decent shops?" I used to moan. "What about Topshop, or a Gap?" I suppose Clydebank Shopping Centre is filled with cheap shops because it is based in a town with a lot of poverty. Granted, it's not all bad, there is a decent New Look and Dorothy Perkins and a massive 24 hour Asda. However, Bankies looking for quality retailers end up just making the 15 minute drive to either Braehead or Silverburn or jump on the train to the city centre.

I'm never lucky in TK Maxx and I generally avoid going inside. However, recently my mum brought me here to see if I liked a picture she was thinking of buying. It's not as chaotic as most TK Maxx and everything is organised in a ship shape fashion, you don't need to climb over other shoppers to get to something you think you might like. It was during the day on a Saturday and I was very surprised that it wasn't full to bursting. I managed to find myself a really pretty formal dress which I think I'll wear to my graduation. I also treated myself to a little basket for papers and Uni work. It's really unusual and has a hand made look about it, it's made in a wicker style effect with hardened newspaper entwined into each other, it looks great and was an absolute snip at £5.99!

It's like the Primark of the cosmetic and home accessories world and although everything is very cheap they stock all the brand names and I topped up on Listerine at only £1.50 and my favourite L'Oreal shampoos. My favourite time of the year is topping up on stationery for a new term at Uni and they had an excellent range here, again, all very reasonable priced. I purchased two folders for 97p for both, lined paper at 67p and patterned plastic wallets at only 55p! What a bargain. If you're looking for dirt cheap, good quality goodies then Wilkinsons comes highly recommended.

The fruit and vegetables are top notch and there are brilliant offers on quality toiletries such as Laura Mercer. But it's the weekly deals on electronics that are really worth looking out for. Just to tease us, Aldi only get several of the cameras, laptops or whatever they are flogging at the time, so you need to be at the store sharpish on the first day of the offer.

But as we were passing this Anniesland branch on foot and needed a few supplies for dinner, we popped in just after New Year. This Anniesland one is pretty mega and it was interesting to see what things they had that the Partick one doesn't. I'm always intrigued at how supermarkets tailor their stock to the local clientèle. This branch also has a filling station, which is great for when they are giving out discount fuel vouchers. It's also handy if you're heading out of town and are short of fuel as it's easy to get at from Bearsden Road. My main gripe about this place, and perhaps the real reason we don't visit it very often, is that the car park is a nightmare to negotiate at the best of times. There is a sneaky back way that comes out beside the railway bridge on Great Western Road, but it involves some tortuous corners, parked cars and pedestrian dodging so you need to keep your wits about you. I once ran into a huge articulated lorry trying to squeeze around the first corner (and failing!).

Well braehead has a lot going for it…read more First off there's free parking ( even some Electric car charge points ), loads of it, some of it is open to the elements and some is undercover in a multi storey structure so where you want to park depends on your preference and the weather. There are loads of high street name shops in the centre, which covers two floors. The centre has changed a lot since opening years ago, with the food court area changing from an all for one area, with very few well known names, to an area with a few big names with their own designated areas. Many shops have come and gone in the years but there is a good mix and it's definitely worth a visit.
