Despite numerous emails, text messages, and phone calls leading up to the tax deadline, we received no response. Our taxes were not prepared or filed on time, with zero communication or warning. After the deadline had already passed, Chris contacted my husband stating that our return had "slipped through the cracks" and assured us it would be completed that same night. It was not. What followed was even more concerning - continued silence. Multiple follow-ups from us went completely unanswered, with no updates, no delivery of promised documents, and no accountability. Failing to meet a critical deadline is already a serious issue. Failing to communicate with clients before and after that deadline is inexcusable. This was not a minor oversight - it reflects a fundamental lack of professionalism, reliability, and respect for clients. We had trusted Chris for years and referred several friends and family members to him. In hindsight, that trust was misplaced, and those referrals are something we now deeply regret. I had my taxes filed with Christopher J Mitchell and had a horrible experience. I'm not a one sided individual so with regards to him knowing what he's doing I applaud him with that. But he's not honest and his customer service skills are horrible. If he tells you he filed your taxes on a certain day add 2 weeks on top of that date and that's when he really turned your paperwork in. In a field that is driven by customer service and referrals I would assume the level of customer service would be a lot better. But hey, maybe he has enough clients that he doesn't care about any new ones. More power to you. Just understand that the only people that stay in business are those that provide great customer service. I hope this message allows you to treat other customer better then you treated me. Your telling me one thing the IRS rep is telling me your lying about the date your filled it. I just need some clarification. Chris: "Dell, you confirmed that they received it. That's great. I'm traveling for the next two weeks. I'm confident that you will have received your refunds before I return on August 15th." Me: "Just be honest brother. It's nothing to say dell I put it in late. We are all human. Just As easy it was for you to take my money it should have been as easy to get a honest answer out of you." Chris: "I told you exactly what I did. Have a good day Dell." I thought I was getting a trustworthy tax accountant and good service from Chris. Truly, Chris seems like a nice guy. And he still does. Just unprofessional. After filing my return, I waited for my tax returns. The federal took about 3 months to come through. Longer than usual but I chalked that up to the federal tax office. Not Chris's fault. However, with the New York tax return, it was a different matter altogether. With the information that he provided on the return, I was unable to locate my tax return on the online "Income Tax Refund Status"-- never mind get the refund. I communicated with Chris starting in March about this matter. He told me that he would look into it. It soon became summer then fall. Communciating via email and text about 5-6 times, he continued to assure me that he would get to the bottom of it. Though getting a return late is not his fault, I think it is his responsibility to provide confirmation of my return having been filed. And, if there are problems, he should at least outline how I can go about resolving them. After communciating with him once again today on September 7, this was his reply: "Hello, I will follow up with you as soon as I have a day when I'm in the office. During the office season there is sometimes weeks at a time when I'm not in the office. I received the message that you left there for me and you are on my priority list of clients to follow up with. I'm going to ask for your patience as I'm traveling for the next few weeks. I will be in touch as soon as I can. Most likely by the end of the month." Nice enough response. Other than the fact that there's no committment to actually solving the issue in a timely manner. I replied, "Considering that this is already September and we've been communicating about this since March, however, I expect this to be resolved definitively by the end of the month. Thanks." This was his reply: "Hey, you know what? I'd prefer that you took your business elsewhere else. I've provided the service that you paid for. You don't need me to follow up with the IRS or the States that I filed for you. I've emailed you copies and handed you hard copies. Our business is complete. You won't be hearing from me again." Nice. If you just want a guy who will file the paperwork for you, Chris is the guy. If you want to make sure that he and his office will ensure that you get the return, you might consider looking elsewhere. read more
