Their many apartments - in different parts of the city - are carefully furnished and extremely well taken care of. We found the other renters all to be considerate, private and quite folks and we felt quickly "at home". All staff has always been efficient and most helpful. That's a new one. The noise level is unbearable, the stairwell reeks and the trash can outside is constantly overflowing with garbage. And if that wasn't bad enough, there's even been police activity, which I have on video! It's been a nightmare. Trust the reviews--this place is not worth the money. Luxury apartments? Far from it. What a joke!

Not only will you hear every noise from all of your neighbors (including the sound of slippers across the floor) you will physically feel the vibrations of movement. Your body will shake, water glasses on a table will shake, any magnitude of an earthquake and this place is gone with how atrocious the construction is. Rules are arbitrary, and never enforced. Don't count on getting your security deposit back because of their holding policy. It became a running joke how many extra unnecessary superficial fees are tacked on to the rent payments. Management has truly drank the Kool-Aid. Also be prepared for your nose to be assaulted by the ungodly smells that emanate every time you walk through the building. If I could go back in time and slap myself out of renting an apartment at this place, I'd gladly put myself in a slap competition. Your money is better used by burning it for heat than to pay rent here.

I, too, planned to stay here only as long as I had a dog because it is VERY dog friendly--then I'd move into the city. Many I've heard say, "I'll leave here feet first. . ." It is a varied age community with social events, if you want to meet new people (happy hours overlook the city lights of Portland each Friday, coffee hours, book club, music jam nights and an interesting speaker series.) The management and maintenance staff are amazing, professional, and really care. The facilities (pool, club house, state of the art fitness center, computer center, movie room) are well kept. The outside landscaping is to beautifully done and kept in perfect condition. It truly is amazing how well they run this great place. I, too, plan only to leave feet first.

But the square is a LOT more than just the park. There is the Children's Museum, The Museum of Maine, Congress Square Gallery, First Friday events, The Art Walks, The Pride Parade, Political Rallies, where the fantastic wheel chair riding street politician/comedian sits with his Trump Sucks Sign and waves to traffic.. There are also the small niceties, Starbucks, Congress Square Restaurant, two amazing hair salons, a tattoo shop or three, Otto pizza, Wild Burritos, Flea For All, the Westin, and of course the State Theater. I live in Congress Square, the park is magical during the winter covered in snow and beautiful holiday lights, and an amazing place to read or drink coffee alone or with friends, or catch an outdoor movie on Sunday evening. We even have a taxi stand.. A rarity in a smaller city.

I don't live here but I had a chance to tour the property with an elderly relative who was interested. The buildings are two or three years old and seem to be in very good condition. The apartments are on the small side but are of the "open concept" design, making them feel more spacious than they are. The appliances are modern and energy efficient. There are laundry rooms in each of the buildings. Heat and hot water are included. The bathrooms in the apartments are enormous. Most units are partially handicapped accessible and some are fully accessible. Rent prices vary according to your household income, and income limits apply. There is plenty of parking. The neighborhood is pretty. The buildings are within walking distance of several trails and there is even a small launch where you could put a canoe into Long Creek. A beautiful and relatively unknown park, Jordan Park, is also nearby. Hannaford and the Maine Mall are less than 10 minutes away by car. If you need to use public transportation, you'll have to walk up a pretty steep hill to get to the nearest bus stop, which is unfortunate for folks with health problems or mobility limitations. And forget trying to walk that hill in the winter time unless you've got Yak Trax.

Once we received our application acceptance, (which was almost immediately) our leasing agents were very prompt with our responses and helpful with questions, particularly Amber and Morgan, the two women I have been the most in touch with. In terms of quality this is definitely the nicest apartment I've ever lived in. The appliances are all modern and clean, the paint colors really bring the space together, and the neighborhood (west end) is so idyllic. My boyfriend and I chose not to have a parking space, so I cannot speak to the parking situations, but it seems like everyone in my building sticks to their space and are friendly with one another. Above all else I love that we can pay rent online. My last property management I went through, you had to pay in person which required a lot more planning. I love that I don't have to worry abut making an extra trip to drop of a check. I always feel safe with my mail and packages, everyone in my building seems to respect everyone else's privacy and information. I have even had neighbors put packages safely inside for me that were left outside, just to be safe. I recently emailed Amber about our heat actually being a bit too warm and she emailed me back within minutes saying she'd put in a work order to the maintenance team ASAP. I am sorry to hear others have had negative experiences with Port Property, but it sounds like they are listening and really have an attentive, kind staff now.

Left a giant block of ice right in front of the front door to the building for almost a month before finally getting rid of it. My kitchen has a hole in the floor that keeps my fridge tilted and the cheap stick on tile they put down is dingy and peeling up.
