Coalition Theater is an amazing space to support local and enjoy some comedy! Got to check out their Class Action Stand Up Showcase on a Sunday which consisted of getting to see students from the stand up class do comedy in front of an audience for the first time! The energy was electric and everyone was so funny (definitely a testament to how good the class must be). The show was about 2 hours and for only 14 dollars was an extreme value! Loved being able to laugh and cheer on strangers as they did something for the first time. They also had a concessions stand that appeared to sell drinks and a few snacks, I didn't indulge but it was nice to know that was an option. Coalition theater provides a bridge between entertainment and community which I really loved. I'd definitely reccomend giving one of their shows a try if you are looking for a fun night alone, with friends or for a date night! read more

I love this local comedy theater! It's an incredible spot to take classes and see shows. I've taken improv 101 and 201 classes here and have adored both of my experiences. When you sign up for a class, you get a free show pass for the season you're signed up. My 101 was with Emilee and she was incredible. I loved her positive energy and feedback. She really supported us and helped us grow. My 201 was with Chris and I loved how passionate he was about improv. Him and our TA took amazing notes to help us improve our improv. He also took the time to sign us up for extra practices during open mic nights at the theater. If you're looking to take comedy classes or just want to catch a show, Coalition Theater is the place for you. You can catch shows Thursdays through Saturdays. They have drinks and snacks for sale during shows. There is a gender neutral bathroom. There are three rows of seating and it's a pretty intimate space. The monthly Richmond Famous shows -- improv based on the life experiences of Richmond celebrities -- are always fun, sometimes hysterical, and occasionally sentimental. And the mainstage shows? They feature a different theme each month, ranging from a romp through an audience member's Facebook or iPod to a fully-improvised live movie to a lights-out (literally) improv set done in the style of a radio show. This place is awesome! Over the past year, I've had the opportunity to take several classes and attend shows. The house teams and shows are consistently hilarious and they often have guest improvisers/comedians from all around. The shows are super-affordable and are discounted/free if you enroll in class. The Coalition Theater, which opened this summer, is a beautiful space. Definitely try a s'more cookie if you go! A friend of mine invited me to "comedy night" and honestly I had no idea what to expect. We found parking in Jackson Ward within walking distance from the Theater. We were welcomed warmly by staff, ordered a couple of drinks (they have Mexican Coke!) and took a seat. I'm not sure exactly what happened next, except that we didn't stop laughing for the next couple hours! The improv groups were amazing, creative, and the laughter of the entire crowd was infectious. When in town or a native, make sure to stop by for some really good comedy at the Coalition Theater on Broad Street. Tickets are reasonable, the bar is stocked and the fun and laughs are plenty. We came on a Saturday night at 10 and expected it to be full of people and lively. However, there weren't many people there and it seemed that everyone but us either worked there or spent a lot of time there. One half of the seating area was empty, and with it being a very small venue with everyone else knowing each other, this was a recipe for awkwardness. I had high hopes for a really funny show, but honestly it was underwhelming. Maybe we went to the wrong show, but I don't think we'll be able to bring ourselves to go again. read more

This place has a great vibe. You can tell the performers and staff get along real well. If you go to enough shows you will notice other performers that are off that night sitting in the audience and enjoying the shows like the rest of us. The performers are extremely talented and funny and the shows are very reasonably priced. If you haven't been you should check it out! read more

The Richmond Comedy Coalition performed at a special event we had at our restaurant. They were hilarious and very professional(ly silly). It was great to see them bring patrons out of their shells with games, assignments and activities. We especially enjoyed the silent dance party! I've seen some other improv performers but they had too many awkward moments and were not funny. These guys had us laughing all night long. One of the jokes they made was so funny and original everyone was practically screaming. I can't really describe it but it was awesome. The theater is also very nice looking, I felt positive vibes from it (unlike some other dark and rundown places in Richmond). The cookies were only $1.50 and they were the tasty and gourmet kind. The late night tickets we got were only $5 each. Sometimes they are $10 each. I will definitely go again. read more

For all the 5-star reviewers here, I suspect improv has been an "acquired" taste, I found it to be the type of entertainment maybe Amy of Big Bang Theory would enjoy...reading "Waiting for Godot" could be a real hoot for these reviewers. Did notice most of the audience to be in their 40's and up, if that makes any difference. Fold up chairs start playing hardball on your backside after an hour, show lasts an hour and a half. BE AWARE there is no liquor license and definitely no ice, just beer and room temp wine ONLY. Performer lines could be,like: "Walking in peanut butter?" "Behind the barn?" "But your mother was a Yankee yesterday!!" If you find this funny, yuk it up at the Coalition Theater.....but I think improv is best left to the late Robin Williams, who could make it work. read more

Attending a RCC show is one of my favorite things to do in Richmond and they have done an amazing job with the new theatre. You can't go wrong with any of their shows and for the price it's one of the best deal around. read more

My friend and I enjoyed lively entertainment at this small establishment. They serve a small selection of beer and wine. the talent and quick wit of the majority of the comedians was excellent. Unfortunately, there is only a small crowd night the night that we attended. The comedians performed with lots of enthusiasm, and engaged the crowd when able.
