I asked Town & Country Fencing Inc. to build a new wood fence. The owner Adam Rust came by and…read morequoted me for a 6 foot high cedar fence with 8 inch planks. On April 9, I gave him a down payment of $1000 to begin the work. By the beginning of May Adam had not begun work and had not contacted me. My neighbor, who had agreed to share cost on the fence, finally got fed up with waiting for Adam and brought in his own contractor to do the work. On May 3, I informed Adam what had happened and cancelled the fence. On May 4, Adam claimed that he had just ordered the wood to be delivered to his own property and that it was too late to cancel the order. Adam said he had planned to start work on my fence on May 11. Adam only returned $500 of my deposit, claiming that he had ordered redwood and would have to return it since he didn't normally stock redwood and it might warp if he kept in his yard. He claimed the $500 he kept was for restocking and shipping of the redwood. I pointed out to Adam that he had quoted me for a cedar fence and if they had mistakenly delivered redwood, or he had mistakenly ordered it, that would not be my error. I also politely asked Adam for receipts to show that he had in fact ordered and returned the redwood. Adam then stopped responding to my emails and refused to provide any receipts. This is bad customer service and possibly dishonest behavior from a licensed contractor (California License #1004631). This in contrast to their website which states "Our team takes pride in delivering the best service". They also advertise "Free Estimates" and "Free Consultations". Nonetheless, I told Adam that I would be fine reimbursing him for his time assembling the quote, however I believe that $500 is excessive. Also his slowness and poor communication in starting the job contributed directly to cancelling the job. Therefor I do not recommend Town & Country Fencing Inc. or Adam Rust.
