I went to the local VA and told them all about this place. If I cant trust this place you cant, I have over 350 reviews on yelp. I lived on Fort Ord in Monterey, I lived on Camp Pendleton I lived near Moffett, I lived in Nevada my family worked on Nellis Air Force base. I have been everywhere.. My Grandfather was even working at The Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey. This is the first time I was ripped off at a Surplus store. Never go to this place, I wont forget this experience or how the guy told me I lied over a $3 patch.

As an avid adventurer of the western US, I tend to visit outdoor stores wherever I travel to see what their idea of adventure is there and take the chance to upgrade gear that's frustrating to use or worn out over time. I've visited Bill Jackson's on two separate occasions now, heading in each time with about $500 worth of gear in mind to shop for. The first time I came, I got great help from multiple associates and planned to purchase gear off of their advise, but witnessed a confrontation between management and an associate that I recall as mild but disruptive enough it made me leave the store without buying anything. I didn't come back for about 8 months. Now I'm back in town for a few weeks of work before heading on a 2,700 mile bikepacking journey and really needed to grab a few items I hoped they'd have in stock. Being interesting in all outdoor activities, I started talking with an associate about the ski shop they were building the last time I was here. He keyed in that I had ski knowledge from my time tuning skis and custom fitting ski boots out west and started talking to me about part time work as they expected to need some extra hands with ski knowledge and took me to show me their ski selection. To get there, we had to walk through an area that he explained was sectioned off for an upcoming sale, so not yet available, but the necessary route to the still-open ski shop. He made a pretty good case for their ski shop and my wheels were turning about coming to help them out in the fall. On our way back through the sale area, I asked a question about the items we were walking past and the associate was very clear that those items were not available for sale until the official sale start date, but took the opportunity to educate me about them(I knew very little about diving equipment but am curious to learn). I was quickly convinced that a decent snorkeling kit was necessary equipment to enjoy the area and decided I'd get a setup. Before he got a chance to redirect me to where the currently available snorkeling gear was(I could tell it was coming, this area was also tiny compared to the sale area), an angry manager/owner appeared ready to tear apart the kind and helpful associate that had just taught me what I needed to know to spend an extra couple hundred dollars on top of the items I was already planning. I hurriedly left the area while she continued to holler at me and once I passed the threshold of that room I heard her resume berating the associate in anger. I walked myself over to the full price scuba stuff and found another helpful associate, but I could not bring myself to buy anything from this store after that experience. It was not unreasonable for her to ask us to move along since we had stopped in a place we were meant to pass through, but she was incredibly rude to the associate for going above and beyond to take care of an enthusiastic customer. I won't spend money here, that manager is the most unkind person I've encountered since I've been in Tampa. In a town of incredibly kind people, there is no place for that. Very sad, I really wanted to like this store. The associates seem to be knowledgeable and passionate about the outdoors, but they don't deserve to be treated that way.

The store is enormous. It's located in Pinellas Square where the old furniture store used to be close to the cinema. An associate told us that they have been open since last November. The store has an easy to navigate layout, and a great selection of military and civilian supplies, especially for outdoor activities. So why 3 stars instead of 5? - One of the guys behind the counter was really nice, but he wouldn't stop interacting with us. He asked us what we were looking for and my son said a Swiss Army knife. After initially showing us something comparable and my son no thank you, he kept trying to show us other knives and items throughout our visit. I appreciated the helpfulness, but it started coming across as a lack of personal space after a bit and made me uncomfortable. I have a hard time being direct with people though, and never said "leave me alone" or anything so maybe it's my fault. - The woman working behind the counter was kind as well, but she was visibly sick and sneezing a lot. I asked her if she was fighting something off and she said, "Yeah, I got it, gave it to my husband, and now he gave it back to me". It's really hard having a retail job because they don't give you time off, but I don't think they should've had someone sick running the register, especially sneezing. That being said, none of that is a deal-breaker for me and I'd come visit again next time I'm over that way.

On this trip I just needed some shoe laces for my Mil Spec shoes. I couldn't find what I needed anywhere, so I knew they'd have 'em here. Sure enough, they had exactly what I needed! But, shoe laces are easy. If you need some serious tactical gear they'll hook you up!

The name is actually "Headquarters Army Navy" and they specialize in brand-new clothing, boots and equipment. Most of the customers are paintball aficionados, and they're looking for camouflage clothing, military boots, and paintball supplies which Headquarters Army Navy has in abundant supply. You can also find a great selection of camping and hunting gear, as well as some knives, canteens, cooking supplies, and other equipment to add to your hurricane supplies box. Finally there's also a collection of military and tactical gear including pants, shorts, jackets, holsters, and other specialized equipment. This is one of the few places in town to find PROPPER-brand tactical pants and shorts, along with some heavy duty t-shirts. You'll find Headquarters Army Navy at the little triangular-shaped intersection where Skipper Road meets Bearss Avenue, just to the east of Nebraska Avenue. Watch for the military jeep parked out by Bearss Avenue, and turn into the gravel parking lot.

I went in for a large duffel bag and they had exactly what I needed in stock. Not much size variety in their bags. The majority are all extremely big or small like a satchel. So if you are looking for that perfect carry on size bag, look elsewhere. Overall, they had what I needed and I left it at that. I never experienced any rudeness from the employees and to my knowledge they are the same men that everyone else has encountered. Maybe it's my charm but they have always extended a hand with assistance when needed. Check them out though if you are in this area and you don't want to take that long drive out to Tampa.

While in the store a Pinellas Deputy came by to pickup uniforms for a new hire. Credit cards are accepted and invoices for gear from employers and they'll ship product to you.

They took the old patches off and sewed on new patches with a 24 hour turnaround. They have a great selection of anything and everything LEO and first responders should need. He also helped out my husband out with an exchange. We had gone to a previous 5.11 at a different location and the other associate gave some recommendations for our exchange issue on his pants. These did not remedy the issue and actually made it slightly worse. Not totally his fault, as he was just trying to help out. But all in all, super happy with our experience today. Mark absolutely saved it for myself and my husband, 100%. He was eager to help, personable, had great product knowledge, and efficient!
