Ryan explained everything in great detail and educated me on things like where rodents could get into the house, what they like to eat, the difference between mice and rats (who knew rats were so intelligent), different kinds of traps, etc. We walked around the house and identified spots that should be sealed up. He offered practical solutions like chicken wire and expanding spray foam (typically used for insulation). He asked me if neighbors were setting out poison because he saw several dead critters in my crawl space. It turns out, a week later I did see a poison trap set up a few houses away from me. His down to earth approach on problem solving resonated with me. There's no black and white answer when you have rodents. Ryan was very patient and made sure I understood all of the options. It's been a month since he came out. Since then, I caught one mouse, sealed up the obvious spots around the house, and haven't seen any new activity. If you have a foundation crack, save yourself the time and trouble and call Avalon Structural first. I got multiple estimates for my fairly extensive ~23' horizontal crack. I found there are three types of companies. The first type will do the minimum to chip out the rusted rebar, throw some fresh rebar in there, patch it up with a "band-aid", and charge you handsomely for a quick in-and-out job. The second will glance at your foundation and immediately tell you it has to be replaced, for an even more handsome price, of course. And then there is Avalon Structural. They will perform a comprehensive and highly structurally sound repair, removing all compromised material, charge a fair price, and stand behind their work with a strong warranty. If you visit their website, read the articles, and watch the videos explaining the right and wrong ways to perform foundation repairs, you will be well-equipped to choose the right company for your foundation job. We couldn't back up or go forward. The lady in the other car actually got out and talked to him. I started yelling that he needed to move so we could park our cars and not be blocked in. He arrogantly waived us off. Idiot!!! He looked pretty able bodied to me and there were plenty of parking spots on the street. I don't know why he had to hold up 2 other cars so he could park in this exact spot. As a business owner in Santa Cruz and Capitola I would not hire this company if they were the last roofing company on earth. Hey buddy!! You are in a company truck and treating people like an ass hat. Arrogant jerk!
