They never tried to have a meeting with us to try to find a solution for his needs, the principal just said that he cannot assist to Cook Center anymore.

I was also a former student, and I'm telling you: please do not send your child here!…read more The students at this school are not treated as individuals with their own gifts and their own ability to contribute meaningfully to our world. They are instead stripped of their identity, belittled and forced to comply with the demands of the staff by sheer aggression and violence. And every other aspect of the student's lives is negatively affected by the school's agenda as well, oftentimes by unfair and restrictive legal documentation that follows them for the rest of their lives and is very difficult to annul. Their practices also often result in students not graduating on time, (if at all,) which can cause irrevocable damage to their professional standing. I was lucky to leave and I never looked back, but some of the damage they inflicted stays with me, and I may not rectify it for a long time yet.

The DSPS Department at Mesa College is really great. It offers students access to disability…read morerelated, reasonable accommodations which extend beyond those regularly offered by the college. The services are arranged through the DSPS Department and intended to assist college students with disabilities to more successfully participate in regular college programs and activities. Services and access are based on a verified disability, counselor's recommendations, and individual need. Lots of veterans go back to college after getting out of the military. Some of these vets are injured and require accommodations. Also, learning disabled students get extra help here at DSPS. You can get preregistration of your schedule and there are counselors who can help you select your classes. My friend who is disabled and attends City College downtown said the DSPS program through the San Diego Community College District can also give you a note to give to your professors that gives disabled students an extra 15 minutes to get to class without penalty. This is something very useful, particularly the first two weeks of the semester, when parking is a nightmare on campus and getting around can be troublesome. One of the best things about Mesa College, of which I am also an alumni, is this wonderful DSPS program that can make all the difference to a student succeeding in higher education, despite handicaps and disabilities. 5 Yelp Stars for helping students that need a little extra help, get it.

My only complaint is that if you don't like jazz but want to be in the music performance program, you are out of luck. Jazz is what they do. I can't say enough good things about this business and about Jeni Rayle. She is everything you…read morecould want in an advocate; she is knowledgeable, she truly cares about the families she represents and she will fight for your child to recieve the services they deserve. We had spent years disappointed with our autistic son's placement in SDUSD. She helped us figure out what options he had and helped us navigate our next steps. We had our IEP meeting this week and we could not be happier with the results. I cannot thank her enough for advocating for our son! She changed his life by getting him placed in an environment where he can get the help he needs (and deserves)!

As much as we tried on our own to communicate the needs of our kids, we, at times didn't even know what we should be asking for from the school. From the first meeting, to our last meeting, Jeni was not only professional, but she cared. She knew our frustration and her experience, her kindness and patience saved our family. It opened up doors at school and saved our sanity at home. We trusted Jeni as her communication with us was always available, our questions and concerns were always answered and reassured. Jeni met each timeline and was always in contact with us and the school. She always made sure we were "in the know". Best decision we ever made!
