However, the service seems to have suffered in recent weeks, as the owners have moved abroad and do not seem to be taking as much interest in the business as they did before. Some of the staff are very young and do not seem in a hurry to take your order even when the place is almost empty, so it is not as popular as it used to be. We were offered a Fixed Price menu as well as the Å la Carte, I also noticed on their website that they have a 'Bambini' menu for their younger guests and a lunch menu. We ordered draught Peroni whilst perusing the menus which are quite large. It was noted that we could have ordered EVERYTHING! Finally though we settled on; Ribs in BBQ sauce, Gambaretti, Aubergine Parcel and a Caprese Salad to start followed by a Marinara Pizza, Chicken Rostico, Cod with Chilli & Sesame Crust and a Salmon & Puy Lentil Salad. All of the food was delicious and portions were generous. The ribs for instance could easily have been a main course with a bowl of chips! My nearest and dearest was a little disappointed with the amount of lentils in the Salmon salad but the kitchen quickly provided a small bowl of additional pulses on request. I don't normally order pizza in a restaurant but I was reassured that their pizzas are stone cooked and it was very enjoyable with a good quantity of quality seafood. The banquet was accompanied by a fabulous Pinot Grigio at a reasonable price. I thought it would be rude to order our favourite Chablis in an Italian restaurant - hehe! A thoroughly enjoyable meal was appreciated by all four of us and with our bellies full we headed for Fresh in Wood Street which is fast becoming our favourite bar in town. We went here for the first time a couple of nights ago after noticing the refurbishment going on in…read morethe pub over the last few months. And what a transformation! The interior is lovely, with the backs of all the chairs covered in fake fur. Slightly too cold to be completely comfortable, but that's about my only complaint. Our waitress was courteous and polite, and the food was great as well. Not perfect, but that's a rare occurance in restaurants anyway I find. The chocolate fudge cake we had for dessert was exquisite. Won't be a frequent visitor as the average main meal price is around £10 which is more than my budget allows for, but I will be back.

Stuck in Congleton on a Monday morning. Things were looking pretty grim. Having to catch the bus…read moremade it even worse. Obviously our amazing public transport network meant I only had over an hour to wait for the next bus. So that is how I ended up in The Bear Grills Cafe. I was not expecting much, given the surroundings. But on entry, it was a pleasant surprise. It feels cosy, yet spacious. Nice and bright and well presented. We grab a seat and I find the breakfast for me. Going for the large option. Essentially 1 or 2 of everything you want in a breakfast. Plus beans. We are soon ordering and the beans are easily ditched for an extra hash brown. Whilst waiting we notice that they do an eating challenge called The Hibernator. Which is over 4 times what I've ordered. If I'd had the time I might have given it a go. Could well be back to do this Food arrives quickly. It's all looks freshly cooked which is nice. It's nicely presented and I even enjoy the tomatoes, which I'm usually a bit reluctant on. My only minor quibble would be that as a ketchup addict, I would have liked to have seen a bottle of this, rather than the packet provided. All in all. A good spot to stop if you find yourself stuck in Congleton. And worth making the visit to try the Hibernator.

The resturant is also licensed. Offering a small choice of wines etc. The prices are rather expensive but well worth a visit, or a treat. The menu has scampi, cod ,haddock and for others burgers and sausage, the pies are also from a reputable firm.

Each year, we have a couple of hours between Saturday's sessions in which to get some food. The Seafarer has become the venue of choice for many of the volunteers, even those living close enough to get home for food. We have never had any problems in getting a table or two and the service is very good, as is the choice of meals. Having just spent part of the summer in Whitby, I was prepared for a slight disappointment this year, but it didn't happen - the cod tasted just as good as those I had become used to. There is a small, but viable choice of drinks; tea, beer, wine etc. and these are served very quickly. The food typically takes a while longer, but this is indicative of the fact that all is prepared as requested, rather than kept warm until needed. As stated by others, there is plenty of free parking around - the huge Memorial Hall parking area is still there even though the Hall has been demolished in readiness for a brand new one in the next few years.
