My son loves this school. He has made many friends, is very active in outside student activities and is really enjoying his classes and professors. His counselor has helped him make sure he's on track to graduate on time. Tuition is out of state for us but it's about the same as what we would spend for in state with his Scholarships. read more

As a graduate of the class of '07 I can say that I loved my time at Coastal! I transferred in after two years at Umass Amherst and ended up doing three more at CCU after changing majors and adding a minor. Compared to Umass, the smaller class sizes and individual student attention made a huge difference in me connecting with my program and with my academics. In a class of 500 students, you are an anonymous number. Nobody cares whether you pass or fail. Creating relationships with my professors at Coastal made me more accountable and that they cared about your personal outcome. The campus is beautiful and myrtle beach area isn't a bad place to go to school. Unless you're not good with school/party balance because the beach is a short drive away. Since graduating, I've visited a few times and the improvements to the campus are stunning. They're making improvements not only to the campus, but to the academic programs and athletics. On my last visit, I was lucky enough to attend an alumni tailgate and catch a game from the box seats in Brooks Stadium. As an alum, I would definitely recommend considering the school for attendance or going for a visit to catch a game! read more

Coastal Carolina University is a small but growing University located between Myrtle Beach and Conway South Carolina off of Highway 501 and Highway 544. The school has grown in Leaps and Bounds over the past few years that I have lived here. But then Roman of over 10000 now I believe and major Concourse concentrations in a lot of areas it's making it a very interesting school for people to attend. If you want to add that the beach is only several miles away that also makes it very attractive to college age students. Several years ago the men's baseball team won the division 1 national championship and that pole vault head Coastal Carolina into the FBS and all the sports are now Division 1. That in itself makes the attractive for athletes to want to come because of the scholarships that are now available. My child went to Coastal Carolina and was sexually assaulted. She did the right thing and the brave thing to report it to the school and law enforcement of South Carolina. She even file a restraining order. The proof provided was witness statements as well as copies of text messages he sent to 12 to 14 year old girls to detectives. All of whom came forward in the investigation of his assault. My daughter was then told in her hearing that if she felt unsafe she should leave the state. The school followed suit, after she made every deans list possible, by telling her she had 5 days to get off campus for multiple reports of whatever (never heard what nor was it responded to by the campus). They double downed after that and called law enforcement to tell them she stole shit. I answered that call and it went great btw. I would never recommend this campus or college for any female but hell if you are raising a entitled boy....great place for them read more

Despite what other reviewers may say, Coastal is a 'grand' school. When I say this, I mean that it has a lot of different things to offer its students. The Pros: -A variety of up and coming programs and courses that are being taught by well educated professors. -20 minutes from the beach -Apartment style housing is always available -Small enough student body to feel comfortable, but large enough to always make new friends -Jobs are alway abundant because its a tourist town -It's warm & sunny from April to October -Bars and clubs are everywhere, not just at Broadway At The Beach -Happy Hours are 100% legal -There are even classes that take you to the beach and teach you how to surf, I did it! The Cons: -If transferring in credits, its easy to lose some -Parking is absolutely terrible and not debatable, you might as well leave 30mins early (if you live 5mins away). -Hwy 501 is overcrowded with tourists from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends. -The overall healthcare and food available in this area is horrible. Bay Naturals is the only organic food/health store. -There are no parks/private places to go for walks/runs -Professors stand by the "Responsibility for graduation rests with the student", meaning they would love for you to join the 5-year program! Overall, I don't blame the school for most if any of the issues I had with it, I was going there to get an education and that was the primary reason for going at all. Nice little football stadium, except for the ugly teal turf. Overall football environment is not up to FCS standards by a long shot. Small "High School" band - needs to triple or quadruple in size and sound. I'm guessing CCU doesn't have a music school based on the sound. Great school on the coast of South Carolina, about 10 minutes from Myrtle Beach. Very good business school, great social atmosphere and really good athletic teams. Dorm life is nice, and a lot of choices for living off campus. read more

Almost 0 parking for commuters although most of the student population lives off campus. If you don't live in a dorm, add 8 hrs per week to your schedule as shuttles run on a very slow 30 minute loop. Not very upfront about this fact to prospective students as I imagine nobody wants to hear they won't have parking if you choose to live off campus or can't afford campus housing. Parking lots have become like warzones trying get spots because the time difference between shuttling and getting a spot is astronomical. I would definitely attend a real university like USC/Clemson unless you are a marine major. read more

CCU is a terrific place to go to school! Not only do you get to study in a beautiful on campus environment but the beach is only minutes away. the school size is in the goldilocks category, not too big , not too small. CCU intentionally keeps the class sizes small so you get to know your professors. Most classes are taught by actual professors and not grad assistants which also is a plus. Its big enough of a school to have well know Division 1 athletics. National Champs in baseball in 2016, nationally ranked soccer program, march madness appearances for basketball and football is a big up and coming powerhouse in the sun belt conference. Its small enough where you can start just about any club you want, the best ones that exist are because students started them. Beautiful housing arrangements that blow away most on campus housing options in the state , if not the country. Very Student Centered, School has a diverse racially and culturally student body. most states in the union have students here at the school as well as many countries in the world. You'll hear every sort of accent under the sun while you are at ccu. Also great study abroad and hands on learning opportunities. The school is world renowned for marine science. They also have a top notch theatre program, they land jobs in myrtle beach for so many of the education majors, a terrific resort tourism major and they even have a professional golf management program ! The education is just okay there. I went there for the Professional Golf Management program or the PGM and I would rate that program as 5 stars but the food is terrible, the people there act they are in the jersey shore, everyone transfers after the first year, and the people are majority from New Jersey. This school is awful. Just unbelievably awful. The academics there are not challenging. I transferred out after my first semester because I could not be in that environment. The food is disgusting and really fattening. It is not a good school to study at and the whole motto "its not college its coastal" is pretty accurate because most of the students there are more concerned about partying and hooking up with people. read more

The school says it has a 94% acceptance rating. The average financial aid package is 1/3 of that including federal aid. We received 3 times the final aid from other Universities in the area. They claim they receive less due to their smaller size. Another University awarded my daughter 4 times the federal award amount and the college is 1/3 the size!
