Together we taught a 6-year-old boy with Autism how to ride a bike and how to tie his shoes. He is also able to prepare his own little snacks and meals now, f.e. he can make his own PBJ Sandwich. He is able to write his name and all the letters of the alphabet, since Kristen worked with him on these tasks. I learned a lot from her as well. She showed me how to deal with the behaviors and tantrums and she showed me how easy it is to work and to teach new skills during the day. Each week, she would try and incorporate different activities that would appeal to the kids but still help them come out of their shells and develop their language skills. A lot of exercises would be around finding things around the room and helping the child name it out loud to build their confidence in using their words. There were also other set routines built into the class, such as the hello/goodbye song, playtime, snack time, and then music time. I've interacted with different members of the staff and other speech therapists through Speech Goals since my time here and I've been very impressed with the professionalism and genuine level of care everyone has for the kids that come through the program. The only thing I would wish to change is the level of parental involvement that is required. We came for two hours each week, which was really very difficult to do with a full-time work schedule. In fact, we qualified to come twice a week, four hours total, but I knew there was no way I could commit to doing that. It would be nice if there was an option where the classes were either shorter, or the parent could drop off the child and pick them up when class was over like some other speech programs do. Especially when a good amount of the two-hour block is spent during playtime, where the kids get free play in the facility's indoor play area. There is definitely a benefit in helping kids get their energy out and build their gross motor skills but I'd rather focus the time there on the specific exercises targeted toward his speech and take him to the park after work hours for playtime. But overall, Speech Goals can be a very valuable place to go to to help address early development needs for your toddler. Thank you for the partnership these last few months!

My family's experience at ACNC was very frustrating and painful. The clinic (from admin staff to…read morethe supervisor to the owner of the clinic) made the process of getting my child properly assessed emotionally draining and expensive (as I had to go to a second clinic for a proper evaluation). During the ACNC evaluation process, the student evaluator and her supervisor minimized my reports regarding my experience with my kid and provided alternative reasons my child was presenting with ASD symptoms. These alternative reasons were completely debunked by the second evaluation I received, where the clinical psychologist I saw confirmed my son has autism. Most importantly- this is not a neurodivergent-affirming clinic. They do not seem to be informed about recent advances concerning the different presentations autism can have. I would strongly encourage ACNC to include recent advances and research in their practice and provide neurodivergent-affirming care.

Our son showed developmental delays and we were plunged into the world of finding a developmental…read morepediatrician to do a diagnosis (which takes forever) and researching ABA agencies and programs. This is really hard to do when you don't have a diagnosis yet and don't understand the world of ASD services. Which agencies are good? How do they differ? Should you do ABA, floortime, ESDM, discrete trials....? The Regional Center was a disaster to communicate with, so no help there. What you really need is someone who knows the available treatments and programs AND has the experience to understand your child to recommend where to begin and how to start intervention. Enter: Lina Fancy. We would have been absolutely lost without her, especially because we got things rolling in Feb 2020, and the world shut down the next month. Because of Jumpstart and Lina's help, we had a gameplan. We began our own version of intervention based on her recommendations (ESDM for the win!) and saw amazing results. Our little guy came back to us- looking in the eye again, attending, showing us what he was capable of. We've since moved cross country but we STILL talk to Lina periodically to get her counsel. Jumpstart is absolutely the place to go.

My son is now a different person thanks to Lina!…read more Before we met Lina: We found out my younger son, Yi, had speech & fine motor delay when he was 15 months old. Early intervention started when he was 18 months old, followed by OT, ST and PT. Then he got the ASD diagnosis at 2-year old and ABA started two months later. However, with all the helps from all the therapists, no one was able to help Yi establish eye contact or help him learn to point. I got perhaps half a second eye contact with Yi in an entire month. Even when we had it, I was not sure because it was so brief - I thought it could be just me imagining things. Yi had many tantrums a day, very intense. He's in pain, we were in pain, every single day. When we met Lina: Day 1: within half an hour, Lina helped Yi establish SOLID eye contact with me!! I almost cried! He saw me! Day 2: Yi started to point, thanks to Lina! Before meeting Lina, I felt so overwhelmed and didn't know what I should focus on. Lina helped me prioritize and establish a plan for the next steps. - Thanks for Lina's push, I started the GCCF diet right after the training. Yi used to vomit when he had tantrum and cried a lot, which happened on a daily basis. A week after cutting out milk, Yi's vomiting stopped. - I signed up and took Hanen program "More Than Words" parents training, thanks to Lina's recommendation. It was another really helpful program that helped us a lot. Soon after meeting Lina, Yi's eye contact dramatically increased (we adopted the same method from Lina and taught all other therapists to do the same). He learned to point to communicate his needs. His vomiting stopped. With all these changes, Yi's tantrum greatly reduced. Yi has transformed from a suffering child living in his own iron bubble to a cheerful little boy who opens up to the outside world. I can't say enough thank you to Lina! She took time to understand my son, and gave us individualized trainings based on Yi's unique needs. You can tell this is not just a job for her. It's something that she cares deeply and passionate about and she's highly competent. We lived in the South Bay and I work full time. I'm so glad I made the decision to take time off from work and brought Yi with me to see Lina. It was the best decision I made and time really well spent.

Throughout that call, she was very rude and unprofessional towards me - including cutting me off, not letting me speak, not answering my questions directly, and being just plain rude. Based on that call, there was no way in a million years that I would ever let her meet my son. So there you go. Cortica definitely has more of a "big chain" feel compared to the small, family-style clinics we were used to... things like multiple phone lines and staff menus before you get to the right person. But that's kind of expected with a nationwide company, and options in Marin for ABA and OT that take insurance are limited, if any others? The process has been clear: we started with a Nurse Practitioner, then an ABA assessor, and then the ABA supervisor who continues to meet with us regularly. They've taken into account data from our previous clinic down south, which we appreciated. Everyone has been super knowledgeable and kind. It's true there's a wait for RBTs due to staffing shortages, but once you're in, you still get regular parent training sessions with the ABA supervisor, which helps keep things moving while you wait. We're hoping to get an RBT soon. And Dr. V, the neurologist on site, is amazing. She's been fantastic with my son. Super communicative, supportive, and easy to talk to. She's very organized and her medical assistant has provided so much info for us which is great. It can all feel overwhelming, but I think the systems (online portals, phone mazes when calling, just the corporate infrastructure) is what kind of kills it for some folks...as it can start to get frustrating to have to do so much to get to the right 'person' for answers. However, I think some of that will fade away...as the rhythm of a schedule for therapies, follow-ups, etc. gets in the groove.

The camp counselors - Najia, David, and Zita - were awesome. The kids were outdoors and active all day, learning about nature and the environment. Our daughter really enjoyed the field trips to Ocean Beach and Marin. As a 2 working parent family, we also appreciated the 9-5pm full day coverage (the only thing better would be an 8:30am start)! I'd highly recommend this summer camp, and look forward to returning next year.

She specifically asked to go to a camp where she could look at bugs, climb trees, and collect leaves all day long-- TFT delivered and then some! My daughter came home every day with a huge smile on her face, messy hair, dirty clothes, and lots of new facts about bugs and animals. It is exactly what you picture when you think of summer camp. The camp is well-organized. Good communication before and during camp sessions. The counselors are incredibly nice and you can tell that they love their jobs. I would happily re-enroll her at TFT next summer. Note: my daughter is fairly independent and responsible for her age. She enjoys imaginative play, makes friends easily, and speaks up when she needs help. Kids who need structure or hand-holding may not do as well in this camp.
