I was looking for a darning presser foot for my Singer sewing machine and tried to call the shop. They weren't able to pick up my call, but they ended up calling me back after I had hung up. I wrote a review several years ago for Brad who is the husband of the couple who owns the shop. At the time it was my first visit and Brad did an amazing job fixing my sewing machine which I had just received as a hand-me-down. Since then, I go back regularly to have my sewing machine and now serger serviced. I noticed a few reviews commenting on Brad's rudeness and other reviewers who then claimed that people who think Brad is rude are just unable to take direct feedback. I felt compelled to set the story straight after my recent visit to get my serger serviced. There is definitely something wrong with Brad. One minute he's super kind and considerate and then on the next visit he becomes condescending and downright mean. And then when you pick up the machine, he's kind again giving you some helpful advice and throwing in a free bottle of machine oil. I don't believe he's an "asshole" as some of the reviews claim but there's something up with him. My relationship with him now feels abusive because I'm always bracing myself when I have to see him, unsure of which Brad I will see. I have tried to find an alternative, since now my partner refuses to drop off my sewing machine for me when I am at work. She is much more intolerant of abusive folks and he has actually been rude more frequently to her. The bummer is, there seems to be no other folks in the area who can service a sewing machine/serger. If you know of one, please DM me. And because Brad does get the job done well, I will continue to go to him, with some worry that the next time I show up at his shop he will chew me out for writing this review. Wonderful family owned sewing machine shop! They do repairs and sales with a selection of tools and supplies. Brad is the best! I called to ask about a possible repair, but decided to replace the machine instead. Because by some stroke of luck, there was a used Bernina machine available!! Brad is knowledgeable on the mechanism and passionate on the craft. Even though I went to school for fashion design, I definitely learned a few things. This is my first ever Bernina machine. I've previously had Singer and Brother. He showed me how to use the Bernina and provided tips on how to care for the machine to keep it running as long as possible. In the past I've had great experiences with Sherri, the owner. She was always very helpful and friendly. Sadly, Brad, the co-owner, is either a jerk or was having a bad day. I brought my machine in for repair, and he was incredibly condescending. He pointed things out and would ask me what I thought was wrong with it--the bobbin holder, the tension, the thread I was using, and on and on with a "See? Look what you've done" shaming approach. I understand that being in retail is hard, but if he's going to be the face of the business, he should think twice about how he treats his customers. I ended up chatting with Brad for a cumulative several hours over the next couple of days as he walked me through the daunting process of buying my new machine. Based on the positive reviews and a couple of not so great ones (the one 2 star review I read was pretty much spot on after my experience at this shop), I decided to just take my machine here. I'm just going to say that I only interacted with Brad, both in person and over the phone. Here's the breakdown of the stuff that really mattered: 1. Location/Parking: 5/5 2. Responsiveness/Timeliness of Repair: 5/5 3. Price: 4/5 (was a bit iffy as pricing seemed to change on several interactions) 4. Deliverable: 5/5 (Skills are there as he was able to service and fix the issue I had) 5. Customer Service: 1/5 Customer service interactions/skills/professionalism are definitely lacking. As another reviewer mentioned, he's very condescending, even if he were joking (which he wasn't), his mannerisms and body language is very off putting. Very arrogant and outright rude. I had to hold my tongue on several occasions when picking up my machine, which literally took less than 10 minutes (I paid a quarter for the meter outside and had still had 7 mins left when I left). He had the audacity to say my actions/asks were a waste of his time...seriously? First and last time coming here. Doesn't matter if the actual fix/service/deliverable was 5/5, if you can't be nice, you probably shouldn't be dealing with people. read more

My bobbin kept jamming on my Janome. Took it in for service and repair, Brad said it would be ready in a week. Two days later he called to tell me it was done! When I picked it up, Brad explained where all of the burrs were in my machine and showed me how to adjust the presser foot pressure. Took the machine home and it sews as smooth as butter! Brought my 30 year old Singer sewing machine in for a tune up. The bobbin winder was working, but I found a few extra parts in the case and had no idea where they belonged. Sewing machine worked fine, but I figured after 30 years, it needed some tender loving care. Serge a lot was recommended to me by someone who also does maintenance on industrial machines but did not have the time to work on my machine due to illness. Brad did not disappoint. Machine came back working and all clean up. For opening it up and cleaning up all the junk that had accumulated in 30 years the fee was very reasonable. Brad did say to me that I should be doing maintenance more often. Fair enough. Sewing is a hobby for me and I didn't really consistently sew while I was working a full time job. I only recently used it to make some repairs to some clothing. Didn't take offense to this as maintaining your equipment is really important. I suspect that people are citing bad customer service from Brad because he is making suggestions and they are taking offense to his suggestions I also purchased some extra bobbins and some sewing needles from him. I had mention that I wanted some and he had those all packaged up and ready to go when I did my pickup. He also asked me if I was in hurry and I replied no, but he still was able to get everything done within a week. They do have some limited sewing supplies there, but did not have the silk threads I was looking for. This is mainly a sewing shop. I highly recommend them for repairs to your machine. read more

When my 1970's Husquvarna sewing machine stopped working properly I emailed them about a repair...and got a phone call five minutes later telling me not to use it (for fear of further damage). Impressive response time! When I finally dragged the 40-lb sewing machine beast in, Sherri was optimistic, but it turns out that it wasn't fixable. The part was broken and replacements were not available. I appreciated their honesty, and for $25 to look at it, the price seemed fair. It looks like they have a great selection of sewing machines in the shop, and after the service I received on the repair side, I would happily make the drive here again to purchase a new machine. read more

I bought a new machine here, the BERNINA 475 and boy is it so much better than any other machine I have ever used. The family spent so much time teaching me how to use the machine, and the benefits of the machine, they spent about an HOUR teaching me about the machine! What incredible service! I have never been to a sewing shop where the owners spend so much time to actually teach you how to use the machine. You can tell that they are passionate sewers! This shop feels like home. Sherry, Brad and daughters are welcoming, knowledgeable and incredibly thorough in how they welcome me and take care of my machines. I have two Bernina 790, 700 and a Babylock Triumph Serger. I use them daily and love having someone to share my enthusiasm of sewing. Brad is a master at servicing and after many years of feeling a little taken for granted at other Bernina Dealers I am really appreciative of the level of service I receive for my "babies". I have also purchased my new Miele cannister vacuum from them, another great experience. Absolutely AMAZING!!! I found this awesome gem on-line today and thank goodness I did. My 13-year-old daughter started a business that requires sewing and today when she sat down to start her afternoon work, her machine was not working. We did everything we could to troubleshoot it here at home and ultimately found Serge a lot, called them and the owner Sheri told us to come right in. With 45 minutes until they closed, they inspected the machine, assessed and fixed it on the spot. They also did not charge us an arm and a leg. Needless to say, my daughter was back to sewing about an hour later. I would highly recommend this wonderful shop to anyone who needs a sewing machine or a vacuum cleaner fixed. I know we will be going back there anytime we need help! Side benefit, they also sell thread and accessories for the machine, so my daughter was able to stock up on replacement needles and materials she needed. if you live in the SF bay - this is the sewing store you dream about. I purchased my babylock destiny 2 and triumph from Sherri. I purchased my daughters machine from her as well. I will purchase all my machines from her because she does the impossible. she gives one on one customer service and great advice. just today she explained over the phone why I was struggling with some pre programmed stitches. it was a simple fix (I had turned on width control) and now my machine works as new. sewing is my stress relief, and Sherri makes sewing even more enjoyable. seriously, what ever you need from the sewing world - Sherri is who you call. her husband and daughter are also awesome. read more

Been to a few other ones and felt ripped off but this one WAS AMAZING! First of all, my Miele stopped powering on. Long story short... and thanks to yelp, I found this place right down the street. sherry, the owner, was amazing. For $25, she'll look at any problem and should you choose to fix it through Serge A Lot, the $25 will be applied against any cost to fix it. She took a look at it and gave me different suggestions on what I could do (honestly, she could've just told me I had to repair it but she didn't!! - I loved that). She was friendly, professional and welcoming! It turns out my vacuum suffered from a common problem - a loose/broken cord reel due to it operating on its maximum extension over the past couple of years. Luckily, it's covered under warranty. I decided to do a warranty through them and Sherry handled all the paperwork. She only charges for her labor, which is very reasonable!!! As part of the warranty service, they will also clean out your brush heads, vacuum AND provide you with a brand new original Miele bag and filters (what?????) amazing! Sherry is also an educator. She will teach you NOT to use generic bags and why, how to avoid pet smells while vacuuming and WHY you should choose Miele over other brands. I hope to not have to come here again but if I do I'll know I'll be taken care of. She does offer maintenance service on brush heads, etc- so I may come back for that just to support this lovely family owned business that is so honest and generous, I want to give them my money! read more

I bought my first really good serger from them years ago (6? 8?) and it was a game changer. The other ones that came before it make me cry and swear, but my airthreading Babylock is a dream. They walked me through everything and I got a machine that has served me very well. But it doesn't stop after you buy the machine. They have been wonderful. Great advice, classes, supplies, servicing, etc. Recently I got a 10 needle embroidery machine from them and have not regretted it. It was a big purchase but I knew they would take good care of me and they have. I had a problem caused by user error and they fixed it before I could blink and walked me through what caused the problem with compassion and sensitivity, They have been so helpful and considerate.
