We present live continuing education seminars all over the country. For years, we've joked that we needed to get tour jackets. A few years back, we finally decided to do a rock-n-roll band-style tour shirt. We knew we definitely wanted the white ink on black shirt look of the concert shirts I used to buy in the '80s. Coastal Printworks was able to take our idea, improve the idea, improve our artwork, and produce exactly what we were looking for. They have been very accommodating of our questions and special requests and always delivered the shirts on time on a tight deadline. This place is amazing. I've worked with a lot of screen printing places over the years due to work in educational theatre, and this place has been one of the best to work with. I recently called last minute to see about placing an order. I had been tasked with getting a limited number of shirts printed super last minute (something most places wouldn't even consider), but the owner Bob was kind and gave me a more than reasonable quote. They had my order ready the next day! And then when I called them back about placing another last minute order of a few more shirts, they had no problem with it at all. I would give them a big fat ZERO stars for customer service if I could, as that is my only experience with this company. Customer service from Jim Dorsey in particular. I filled out Coastal's online form to get a quote and did not include a phone number. Before I continue, let me include that I'd recently gotten 60+ quotes from screen printers across the country before coming across Coastal, only giving my email address and a thorough description of the job (which Coastal also received). Instead of providing me a quote as the others had done, I received an email from Jim Dorsey that said "Please provide an accurate phone number." I don't include my phone number for inquiries such as this, as I find that many companies will call you off the hook afterward, attempting to secure your business. At least with emails you have a legal recourse if you're bombarded afterward and have not specifically signed up for their "list" (CAN-SPAM Act). With the large number of quotes I was getting, it was an obvious choice not to include my phone number. So, I replied to Jim to let him know that I didn't feel a phone number should be required to obtain a quote, and that I would no longer need a quote from Coastal as a result. Jim replied that their "company policy" is to require a phone number to stay in touch with their clients. And then continued on to say that "It is simple standard business protocol." I was taken aback. He actually took the time to email a condescending, unprofessional response. As I explained to him in response, I understand "SIMPLE" standard business protocol, and that if I WERE his client, I could understand the need for a phone number. He again emailed and said, "Thank you for the valuable feedback." Due to his absolute rudeness, he's now getting his "valuable feedback" in a public forum. Unfortunately for the company, they just lost a potential long-term client with a rapidly-expanding business who, at this time, orders about 2,000 t-shirts per year. *****EDIT***** In response to Robert S. below: My issue was not with the company policy but the manner with which Mr. Dorsey chose to explain it. I was perfectly happy moving on with my search upon being told that phone numbers were necessary for a quote, which I explained to him. Instead of replying with an appropriate response (i.e. "I hope you will keep us in mind and that we may be of service to you in the future", he responded with a rude, condescending email. I am all too familiar with "simple" standard business protocol. I am also familiar with excellent customer service. What I received from Mr. Dorsey wasn't it. read more

I had a very unique set of requirements for my print job and a client who was EXTREMELY particular. Jim & Dario went above and beyond to make sure that our art was reproduced to the highest quality and perfect color matching. They even invited me into their shop to watch the process and make adjustments on the fly until we got everything perfect (since our artwork wasn't the greatest). Absolutely love this place, their customer service is wonderful. I called, spoke to the owner personally and he told me to e-mail him our designs; so we did. My partners and I tell him we would like to meet in person because that's how we like to do business and Bob gave us a whole tour! For a bunch of young guys that are starting their own clothing line, having someone like Bob taking his time to give us a tour and explain things to us was wonderful a wonderful learning experience. While we were driving over there Bob had even called us to tell us he upgraded our shirts for free! We had our designs printed digitally. Needless to say, the shirts came out superb. The staff working on everything from the designs to the actual pick-up were extremely professional. I do feel bad that we came late to pick up our shirts at closing time but they were professional about it and seemed to not mind very much. Emailed them my artwork needs and specs, didn't hear back. So I followed up with a call the next day. Hashed out what we needed over the phone. Even followed up with an email detailing what we'd discussed. Got a quote, they said they'd have me a proof by the next day and shirts by the end of the week. But the reality is it took OVER a week to get them to make me a proof. After waiting nearly a week past when they estimated they'd have me my shirts just to get a proof, I pivoted to a 5 star place, and they returned my email almost immediately, were able to hash out details in a matter of about 25 minutes of back and forth emails. Got a quote and a very detailed proof the same day. Cancelled my Coastal order and went with the other company. I'll have my shirts next week. That's the kind of experience I'd hoped to get from Coastal... but no... they wasted my time. read more

The final print quality you get is excellent. However, get their pricing chart in advance and make sure there are very good reasons if their prices are higher than on the chart. Also, if you think you might ever have to acquire your screenmaking film and use it again, consider storing it yourself or ask to see how they store it. When I got mine back, the larger film was folded in half (creased), which rendered it unusable. read more
