The nearby Stennis Space Center is not open to the public. However, the Infinity Science Center is just outside the Stennis Space Center, and it brings NASA history, space flight, earth science and science-related technology to life. This museum offers an abundance of superb exhibits about the history of the Space Program. Exhibits are both indoor and outdoor -- the outdoor area includes the first stage of a Saturn V rocket. The Stennis Space Center is the main facility for NASA rocket testing, so if you are a space flight enthusiast, this is a great place to visit. Real space memorabilia are displayed, including spacesuits, the Apollo 4 capsule, and a lunar module mock-up. The anti-gravity displays are fascinating. Hands-on exhibits are plentiful and educational, including a "create your own hurricane" exhibit. If you need to take a break and sit, movies are shown in their little theatre. The gift shop and cafe are pleasant, and good places to get a drink, snack, or light lunch, and a fun souvenir (I got myself a great NASA ball cap!). Just off Interstate 10, this is a must-see for anyone who has a love of science, math, engineering, or technology -- and wonderful for children interested in STEM. Even if you're just passing by on your way to someplace, this is very much worth stopping for at least an hour of your time.

It made the whole experience feel personal and exciting instead of just "look but don't touch." If you're in the area (or even if you're not), this is a must-visit for families, especially if your kids are into STEM. We left inspired, educated, and already planning our next trip. The curator who manages the museum is very knowledgeable and leads visitors through the place with fascinating stories which make the visit well-worth the time. Admission is free in front of the museum and along the street. Facing the museum, you'd think the entrance is up the flight of stairs in the middle to the second floor, but it's actually through the right door on the ground floor below the green awning. My favorite parts of the visit was experiencing the interiors of the jail cells and the intricately decorated Mardi Gras costumes on display I might have left the place, but memories of the Slidell stories told by the curator have stayed with me. This year's Kids Fest will be a bittersweet event, as it is being held in memory of Lt. Ray Dupuy,…read morewho was one of the founding members of the festival. On September 20, 2017, Dupuy, a Shift Supervisor in the Patrol Division of the Slidell Police Department, died tragically in a motorcycle accident. "Ray really enjoyed kids. He and his Leadership Northshore team wanted to do a children's festival that was affordable, that way large families like ours could attend," said Ray's wife, Connie Dupuy. "Ray loved this project and I enjoyed volunteering each year. We loved seeing the families in Heritage Park and all the kids having fun. We were all about the kids." This year's poster artist is John, a STARC artist. John first began working with STARC through the Special Education's "Supported Employment" program while he attended Mandeville High School. When he graduated from Mandeville High in 2017, he continued working with the Adult Day Program at the STARC West location. Since 1972, STARC of Louisiana, Inc. has been committed to providing a lifetime of Service, Training, Advocacy, Resources and Community connections for individuals with disABILITIES. John enjoys working in the Flatware Packaging Department where he claims to be an "expert" in napkin folding. He also enjoys working in the Mardi Gras bead room, and going on outings with his co-workers. John's hobby since a child has been collecting Disney VHS tapes, DVD and Blu Ray discs and he has collected over 1,000 of them. John's personal gift of memory allows him to tell you specific details about every one of them. He is definitely a "Disney Expert!"​ One of the highlights of this year's Kids Fest will be the Lucky Ducky Duck Race, presented by the Rotary Club of Slidell. Tickets for this fun-raising duck race will be sold at the festival for $10 each or 3 tickets for $25. The numbers on the tickets coincide with the numbers on the rubber duckies. The ducks will be placed in Bayou Bonfouca and will be pushed by a fire hose along the water course. The first duck to cross the finish line wins it's ticket owner $500. Other prizes will also be awarded and you need not be present to win. The Lucky Ducky Duck race begins at 4 p.m. so be sure to be there to cheer on your ducks! Money raised will benefit Riley's Bikes and other Rotary charities. In addition to the rubber duck race, there will inflatables, games, arts and crafts, a petting zoo and live music and entertainment, including the the inaugural Singing Showdown competition. Kids ages 5 to 18 can compete in a vocal showdown. The best singer, decided by a panel of judges, will receive a special award and bragging rights. Registration begins at 11 a.m. near the amphitheater stage and the competition begins at 3 p.m. This year, the Camellia City Kids Fun Fest has partnered with Bring it Home Northshore to honor our military heroes and their families. The Camellia City Kids Fun Fest began as a Leadership Northshore 2016 event. Over the past two years, the festival has raised over $30,000 for Children's Wish Foundation and Riley's Bikes. This year's event is presented by the Camellia City Kids Fun Fest board - Kelly Burdett, Alex Carollo, Dan Crowley, Ray Dupuy III, Eva Moore, Jeannie Vicari and Kevin Walcott - with support from the Northshore Community Foundation. My understanding, they recently started doing this 7-10 years ago. Apparently it gets better and better each year. I found out it was featured on a hallmark movie Christmas in Mississippi for reference. But apparently they have been to this amazing event for a while now. Especially since they remodeled the park. And the icing on the cake. The new attraction of the new aquarium. Located in the heart of downtown Gulfport, in Jones Park on the corner of Highway 90 and Highway 49 at Gulfport harbor. They do not have any parking spaces next to the event. However, they do offer close proximity parking to either walk over from the west side of the marina. East parking in the aquarium garage. They offer free parking and shuttle/buses (provided by your local CTA for both ends. It's a free service but welcome a little Christmas gift if you desire. I recommend parking at the garage since it is well lit and easy to walk if you desire since they built the new overpass from the aquarium to the park. The west end has plenty of parking but not as well lit but closer to the event. In my opinion. Speaking of the bus service, they have plenty of them and service is great and quick. Do not be discouraged if you are waiting for a while for them. Cause you will not. A few minutes tops. That was my experience. I noticed that if you have person that requires extra attention. You can drop them off at the front of the park. And they will gladly assist you. Also guide you to find the best place to park. They encourage you to have the best experience possible. Admittance fee can vary on what day you go. They do accept cards. No discount at the booth that I am aware of. They have a train service that will take you around the park and enjoy the park lights. If you do not want to walk around the whole time. Please reach out to the ticket office for details. They also off few rides in the park (carnival) and delicious food (fair type) hot chocolate, and hot coffee ( or cold/frozen too) . They have plenty of the upscale portable restrooms on site for your convenience. Definitely recommend check it out if you are on the coast. Nice little trip to the coast and especially exploring what other great restaurants and attractions the hosts. Especially plan accordingly to go in the early evening to get the full experience of Christmas lights and weather permitting. Per this article, remember to dress appropriately, it can get kind of chilly in the evening since the temperature drops and of you get breeze. Fun for all ages and great group or family event. In my opinion. The staff is amazing and willing to help you out with your stay. World class experience! Service with a smile!
