The smell of paint fumes caused us both to have headaches and my bf's asthma to flare up. The curtains in our room were inoperable, so we woke up to the sun shining in our faces. The shower head did not work, and there was woodwork missing in the bathroom. The manager Tabitha is rude and hostile, as i returned her attitude, she then hung up on me. I didn't know i should've jumped up and down and made a scene at the check out counter. Apparently you need to take pics of all these things or you get treated poorly by said manager Tabitha. If staying in Ottumwa, find somewhere else to stay the night, this place shouldn't be open during this construction. They should probably do some construction on their management team also.

Unfortunately, our experience at Harbor 72 was a completely different story, and the food was the biggest disappointment of our stay. The food was extremely overpriced for the quality. The sweet corn appetizer was especially disappointing--it tasted like frozen corn with very little seasoning or flavor. The macaroni and cheese was incredibly bland and surprisingly had almost no flavor at all. The steak was the opposite--it was extremely over-seasoned with what tasted like a heavy steak dry rub. The seasoning was so overpowering that I had to scrape most of it off just to eat the steak. The garlic mashed potatoes were also extremely heavy on the garlic salt. There was so much that the flavor was completely overpowering, and I couldn't eat them. I really wanted to love Harbor 72, especially given the resort setting, but the food simply did not justify the prices. The resort itself was fine, and the staff was nice, but based on our experience, I would skip the restaurant or seriously reconsider ordering a full meal there.

Additionally, there is a small pub that serves only wine and beer. It's small and intimate. There are about five tables. The rooms are well-maintained, and I love that they keep everything eco-friendly. For example, they only change bedding every three days during your stay unless you request otherwise.

She was working breakfast and was helpful with a couple of things. I.E. I asked for a wet washcloth because the napkins don't hold up well for large messes. She brought me a warm wet washcloth.

I stayed in a one bedroom suite with kitchen and electric fireplace. The room was clean and amenities included: filtered water in the room, free high-speed wifi, cable TV, fireplace, bathtub, and small workout room. Breakfast can be had downstairs with fresh fruit, Organic and gluten-free options, cereals, muffins, breads, yogurts, etc... **This is not a full-service hotel as the front desk is not staffed 24/7. However, I was provided with a contact number should I need anything and my key was waiting for me when I arrived late that evening. I was most impressed with how well I slept due to the quiet silence permeating the entire lodge. My meditation and Yoga practice felt deeper than anywhere I've experienced. This hotel is in the countryside just a couple miles from the municipal airport, 6 miles to the center of town (Fairfield). It's also close to Maharishi University of Management where students, faculty and staff practice Transcendental Meditation twice a day. There are no conveniences like a market, gas station or restaurant near the hotel. Most of the suites have kitchens and there are a few grocery stores in town. There are several wonderful restaurants in town as well. I would recommend this hotel to any traveller who is not too high-maintenance.
