Stayed here to get our fix of Amish store shopping in... not many Hilton options in the area so here we are The Good: Our room was clean upon arrival and seemed to have been taken care off. The check-in staff seemed attentive The Bad: As Diamond HiltonHonors members we are usually greated warmly as being such customers, didn't happen here. When we wanted to put our clothes in the drawers we found heeps of grocery bags stuffed in them. The stickers on the door that state the room has been sanitized had several other older stickers under them. The hallway smelled of pot like crazy - I do habe to add upon alerting the front desk they assured us they would take care of the issue right away and did. The Ugly Truth: Overall a decent place to stay. The breakfast staff was aittle weird and very much in your business saying they have only been serving full hot breakfast since 6/25/21 (3 days ago) and are trying to figure it out. You still get served the hot food as it is a "Hilton Safety Policy" - not quite accurate a nice excuse to serve you small portions. Would we stay here again? Sure as it is just about the only option but knowing properties read these reviews and always look to improve, we are excited to see hownot goes next time read more

This is the worst Hampton Inn we've ever stayed at. Apparently it's my fault that i missed that the hotel was under construction. The only signage in place was the curtains and tv were being replaced. The receptionist, who was the nicest person ever, informed us after paying for our room, the pool was inoperable, but was offered to walk across to the Holiday Inn Express to use the pool. The smell of paint fumes caused us both to have headaches and my bf's asthma to flare up. The curtains in our room were inoperable, so we woke up to the sun shining in our faces. The shower head did not work, and there was woodwork missing in the bathroom. The manager Tabitha is rude and hostile, as i returned her attitude, she then hung up on me. I didn't know i should've jumped up and down and made a scene at the check out counter. Apparently you need to take pics of all these things or you get treated poorly by said manager Tabitha. If staying in Ottumwa, find somewhere else to stay the night, this place shouldn't be open during this construction. They should probably do some construction on their management team also. read more

Absolutely EVERYTHING WAS INCREDIBLY TERRIFIC ‼ My elderly father-in-law & I frequently enjoy the super hospitality here for our 3-4x annual trips to the Mayo Clinic from Springfield MO for 8 yrs. We are consistently pleased with every aspect of our visits. Tabitha (GM) runs a tight ship & trains her team very well. The hotel is always clean & tidy. Although it's quite old & in serious need of overall renovations. Tabitha makes certain her hotel is a pleasant respite always. read more

Foul odor, filthy carpets, closed pools, broken bench in the room, sketchy/rushed room prep and cleaning. Deadbolt inoperable in the room! Overall "icky" feeling staying at this location. Desperately needs an investment infusion to deep clean and update the property. read more

I was really hoping this would be a spectacular trip showing my husband around where I useto live. Not so much. This hotel was pretty dirty and the staff were well not the most appropriate. The whole floor we were on had a lingering smell of drugs and when asked if it could be corrected they pretty much shrugged it off. If a customer can't serve themselves "hot food" then customers shouldn't be able to serve themselves anything (does covid only attract to hot food?) We are Hilton diamond members and have stayed in some amazing Hamptons, this one will be a no go again. read more

The property is in need of cleaning and maintenance. Our room had mold in the shower, dirty walls and torn curtains. Weeds lined the entrance. I had called and requested a first floor room weeks in advanced and was promised one. Arrived to be told it was given away. read more

Bad property. Do not stay here. I stay in Hampton Inn hotels all over the country. I can usually count on the consistency. Not this one. I knew things were bad when all of the doors had remnants of the covid "sanitized room" stickers on every door frame. When I was waiting to check in another guest was complaining that the room that they had just checked into was dirty and had not been attended to by housekeeping. I went to my room only to find a beer bottle on the desk, an unmade bed and dirty towels on the floor. The front desk clerk was able to get me another room but it had burned out light bulbs and lots of sticky surfaces. This hotel obviously has an owner who is derelict. I hope that Hilton would exercise some better quality control over its franchisees. I will stay at other Hampton inns, but not this one. It's now the morning after my check-in and I had to update. The coffee was lukewarm and they said they have no regular coffee creamer. They only have caramel and vanilla creamer. It's been on order, according to the staff. I used milk, all they had was low-fat though. While getting ready to head out I couldn't find the lids for the coffee cups. I was informed that they didn't have any lids. There are two grocery stores within 100 yards of this store. A property owner who gave a crap would go buy a few containers of 1/2 and 1/2 and maybe even some coffee cups with lids. I asked who the owner was and was told that it's "Mr. Patel." Mr. Patel needs to stick to roadside fleabag motels and have his Hampton inn franchise terminated. read more

I am surprised to read some of these reviews. I had a great experience at this hotel. I had initially booked a room at another hotel which I left before I even stayed. They were horrible, and I found a bug in my bed. I called Hampton Inn, and they got me in, and I was very pleased with the stay. The staff was amazing and accommodating. Doesn't check the bed for piss and charges the next guests. Claims since someone "checked" the room before we checked in that they won't remove the charge. Room had trash on the floor upon arrival and no remote in the room, so I really doubt they did a "thorough check". read more

There are apparently almost $50 in taxes on a confirmed $109 pre tax room (the other person in my party just went downstairs to dispute this as it seems impossible). The gal checking us in was appalled we interrupted her dinner to check in. She was one of those people that makes you want to scream "wake up" while shaking them. When asked what time the hot tub closes, she said- "it doesn't." When i replied, "it's 24 hrs?" With surprise, she said, "it's closed." Okay sarcastic mcgillicutty. She didn't point us in the direction of the elevators, didn't tell us our room number, nothing and clearly hates her job all together.  As I write this, my other party has returned from the front desk and informed me that it's good I didn't go downstairs or I would have lost my marbles. I really liked this hotel. Room was great, service was great. Very new, fresh look & feel. The breakfast was good. Definitely would consider staying at a Hampton Inn in the future (this was my first stay with this chain). read more

Stay away from this hotel. Incompetent management and idiotic policies. I've been staying in Hamptons all over the country and this one makes the worst. To the comment below. I do work for government and have all proper ID's. This is the only Hilton hotel that requires goverement issued credit card on top of ID. Somehow hotel management decided to institute their own policies and I do hope that Hilton brand does something about it. read more

As in a previous post. This hotel has bad management and policies. I needed to change my reservations to the following week. Because I did not do it 48 hours before arriving they charged me for one nights stay. As a Hilton Honors member I had never been charged even when changing my reservations the same day of arrival. But not Hampton Inn Ottumwa. They must not realize there are other choices in Ottumwa. I use my wallet to voice my displeasure with this hotel and now stay in their competition and I'm in the area once every 3 to 4 weeks. read more

My family and I stayed here a few days while in town visiting relatives. The staff were all very friendly. The room was okay-no major issues. They offer a breakfast that is just as good as any other similar hotel. It was perfect for all the kids in our group. They didn't mind us hanging out in the lobby visiting and playing board games. They had complimentary fresh fruit and cookies available in the afternoons. My only negatives-we were hoping we could use the indoor pool to keep the kids happy but it was broken the four days we were there. Every day they said it should be open that day, but it never opened. The other negative, day three we decided it was time to allow the housekeepers in to clean. My toddler had dropped crumbs on the floor, the trash needed emptied, needed clean towels, toddler dirty foot print on the sheets, etc. When we returned after the "cleaning" the crumbs & trash were still there. They left clean towels, but didn't take the dirty ones on the floor. The only thing they did was make the bed (without changing the foot-printed sheets). read more

I see John C made a comment about this hotel and it's was negative. I wanted to clear this up if anyone reads this and is looking for a hotel. John C is totally wrong, couldn't be further from the truth‼ I'm a Diamond Member aswell as long as we are at it. I've stayed here a bit and the customer service is superb. Always greet you by name and super friendly. Cleaning staff does a amazing job here(very clean rooms) never one issue. Breakfast is served by one of the most enthusiastic people you will meet. The hotel was Ok and the people very friendly. Probably time for some new towels and to fix the toilet seat.

If I could give this Hampton Inn negative stars, I would! As mentioned in previous reviews, this Hilton property has the WORST management ever! I am a Hilton Honors Diamond Member and for the past 15 years I have averaged around 120 stays per year at Hilton properties (that's over 1800 nights!). I always book my rooms in advance because many of the properties I visit regularly sell out during the week. Every once in a while my schedule changes, so I'm forced to change my reservation to another Hilton property. Some locations have a 24 hour cancellation policy, but I've never had a problem working with the Hilton Diamond Desk to get the reservation changed to another location with no penalty, until I came across the management and staff at the Otumwa location. Normally the Diamond Desk calls the Manager of the property and requests them to cancel the room with no penalty, and we move on, but the Manager at this location, Megan Burowski, wouldn't hear of canceling the room without penalty, despite my 15 years of loyalty to Hilton!!! Furthermore, she was condescending to me on the phone and showed a complete lack of class & professionalism. After the Diamond Desk Representative who called on my behalf was unable to get Megan to drop the full room charge for canceling my reservation (which by the way was at 11:30am--plenty of time to rebook the room), I pleaded my case to Megan myself and was still met with absolute ignorance! Following our conversation with Megan, the Diamond Desk suggested they transfer me to Guest Assistance. They were eventually able to cancel my room without penalty, but I wasted 2 hours of my time and also 2 hours of all the helpful members of the Diamond Desk and Guest Assistance's time working through this process. I will never set foot in this hotel and highly suggest nobody else does either. Customers and loyalty mean nothing to the management and staff of this Hampton Inn! read more

Dirty hotel...most definitely would NOT recommend this hotel. Pool area dirty hot tub not working and had not been for some time. Ran out of food at breakfast one hour before posted time. I have stayed at Hampton Inns previously - big disappointment I would echo previous reviews about Government CC policy - in 31 years of service I have only been required to show Gov ID - never to pay with Gov CC. Got to the hotel and waited 30 minutes for someone to check us in and the room numner i checked in online wasn't the one I got and the one they tried to give us was full of smoke and they were out of the same type of room. My guess is someone else complained about the smoke and they gave then ours. Crappy service. read more
