Really, I don't know who's running the gig at SM Jazz Mall, but very few of these restaurants are really worth eating at, you know?
But anyway, I digress. Coca cafe's interior is nice enough, their wait staff friendly enough... but for the restaurant, your food can make or break it, no matter how nice the place is.
I was sick at the time and when I visited Coca, I wanted some congee to warm me up. Now, I find it difficult to believe that someone could completely destroy congee, seeing as it's just literally rice porridge that's boiled in whatever soup stock you have on hand.
The first spoonful of the chicken congee was enough to alert me that there was something wrong. This congee was... sweet? I checked the menu for what I ordered, trying to find something amiss... but there was nothing.
I'm not sure if the chef (should you even be a chef if you mess around with congee???) just had an off day, or mistook the sugar for salt or whatever, but to be frank, it was the oddest, unsatisfying congee I have ever had in my entire life.
I struggled to finish the bowl of congee because I was hungry and I wouldn't want to let the congee go to waste (because that was how I was brought up), and I won't even eat it even if I did have it packed for take out.
A truly disappointing experience. No wonder Coca is always empty. read more
