My boyfriend and I are frequent visitors to this bar. We made friends with Charlie instantly and have the best time whenever we are there. I have seen a couple of people complain that he is rude or doesn't pay attention to them, but let me just tell you. Charlie is one of the most social people ever when he is working. He can get caught up in conversation, trying to be the best host he can to his other customers. He is genuine with that. He doesn't "ignore you" on purpose! I must say though that if you come in there acting a fool or you coming off rude, he will not go out of his way for you. I don't blame him, because I know I wouldn't! Cockpit is worth the visit. It's quiet, personal and so much fun. We live in the neighborhood and coming here is often one of the first choices we make when we are looking for something to do. This place is so dirty. I saw the bartender use the same plastic cup for a different customer. The bartender was clearly on drugs and wasn't paying attention to people waiting to order drinks. Saw him and some guy go to the bathroom together and they came out sweaty and jittery. That whole place needs Lysol. read more

Fairly decent dive bar adjacent to the Hobby Double Tree with reasonably priced drinks. However it should be renamed to just Cockpit Bar because the Grille is nonexistent as they do not serve food. read more

I think the billboard sign says it correctly. A cellphone lot with booze! Owner is bartender and probably cook. He is the only person I see here. Dark setting, punk rock music, billiards and darts. Drinks are not expensive. This is definitely not a sports bar! This would be a good place to wait for a delayed plane, cheap place for you and friends to drink and laugh. Certainly a dive bar feel. You get the munchies I would order something, but I'm not coming here to eat dinner. If I'm stuck at the doubletree airport I would visit here again for a beer. read more

Cute hole in the wall kinda dive bar. Both Theodore and Charles were kind enough to serve us, and this establishment has enough space to visit with your drinking buds. If you're early to HOU, excellent idea to stop by for a bit, and enjoy a few strong cocktails. The entire bar has several vintage Htown memorabilia which is kinda cool. ¡Salud! read more

Relaxing dive bar but name is misleading. Don't say Bar & Grill if there is no food at all...not even chips or bar snacks.

The sign message board 'a cell phone lot with a liquor license' ! This is not a fancy place and it's not supposed to be. They have interesting decor with all sorts of airline memorabilia. The music while we were there was playing cool punk style rock, at a good volume to enjoy but not too loud to talk, the owner did say he avoids sports on the tvs, preferring to show mindless entertainment (I think southpark and some B movies were on while we were there). Yikes. This place takes dive bar to the next level. I swung into this bar when my friend found out her flight was delayed. The place is dark giving home to a mildew and smoke smell. However, the drinks are cheap. I got a $7 Tito's with no happy hour special, but $10 card minimum. No food here. He said all he had was frozen pizza. The bathroom. Barf. Ladies, HOLD IT. A friend of mine had a four hour layover in Houston, so I picked her up and we stopped by the Cockpit. I'd never been there before. Charlie, the owner and bartender, was welcoming and fun to talk to. It's not a fancy place. It's down to earth and unpretentious. All they had for food was pizza, but it was good, so we didn't care. I would definitely stop by again if I was in the area. read more

Family flying in. Flight delayed. They land and are stuck on tarmac. After circling through arrival pick-up twelve times, I decided F this, I am going to get a cocktail or find a cell phone lot. Then I see a sign "Cockpit Bar - Cell Phone Lot with Booze" - such a great place. The decor is amazing with so many airline momentos it could be a museum. Wonderful bartender too!! Well, I hate to hate on this place, but I just had a pretty lame experience. I had some things to drop off with a friend, and decided to stop here because it was about a half hour drive for both of us. We got there right as the place opened at 5:00 and sat at the bar. The bartender, who I'm assuming was the infamous Charlie, told me he'd be right with me. Instead, he stood away from the bar chatting with two cougars who'd wandered over from Jack in the Box. My buddy and I sat there about five feet away from the bartender for a couple of horrible Journey and Styx tunes, got no service and left. But I guess if you're flying in, it's not a bad spot to get a couple of St. Arnold's, Houston's best local brewery. So long as you're not competing for attention with any cougs. read more

It's a dive. There's nothing that makes me want to throw in some extra stars; the food was A-OK, the service was A-OK, the drinks were A-OK. But you get what you want, yes? A proper dive! Though, it'd be hugely important they replace the dart board and darts-they're so cheap you've got be throwing at the speed of an ascending 737 to get them to stick. I went there on a weekend to check it out. The sign by the road has a cool slogan, "it's like a cell phone lot with booze." Drinks are well priced. Not too expensive. Pool table for purchase. Would be an ok place for a drink but one of the owners "ChArlie" is a very rude person. When I was double charged on my debit card one evening I returned to have it fixed And I ordered a drink while I was waiting. When I was ready to leave I was told they had a $10 minimum on a card I told them I only came in to fix my card overcharge and he still told me that there was a $10 minimum. I said that because of their overcharged that the should have comped me the drink instead of telling me about the $10 minimum on cards. Eventually he comped my drink but I would recommend Watching your account after leaving there. The place was empty the three times I have been there and I think I know why. I told him I was new in the area and was looking for a place to come and bring my friends but he seemed totally disinterested. read more

Walked in, asked for a sample of beer, first one had a bug in it, second one had a bug in it... Need I say more? Oh, and the bartenders has attitude about the bugs, almost like he expects it to not be an issue. This place very much remind me of the show bar rescue. Nice place to wait out traffic when picking someone up or dropping them off at hobby airport during rush hour. Great air themed bar with old airplane seats and great airline decor. They have frozen pizzas they can make for you. The bartender is great, he knows the lost art of bartenders, he actually talks to his patrons. Went there on a slow weekend night a while back. The owner/bartender seemed nice to everyone else but me. My friend asked to for a cocktail drinks but the bartender said he put all the stuff away for the night. It was 1:10 am. My friend pointed it out he had all the stuff he needed to make the drink still out. The bartender was just being lazy, and he kept pouring out shots and drinks that we already made earlier the night. It doesnt seem like he wanted to go thru making quality drinks even tho he could easily done it on a slow night. Surprised this place is even open for many years with this kind of guy. read more

I stopped in here on a whim, just killing time on a Houston Hobby-area pub crawl. It's the quintessential airport dive bar. The owner was behind the bar and made me feel he was glad I stopped by. A small place with a cozy feel to it. I was drinking $2 PBRs because I just didn't care anymore. A pool table, an Internet juke box...a non-descript kind of place really.
