The experience starts when you walk in: You are greeted with absolute professionalism. The tables are beautifully adorned with wine glasses and setups. We tried this place out last night and it was really good. Some of the food is a bit pricey; a steak or expensive seafood dish can cost over $45. They do have some cheaper alternatives though for around $17 that tasted good as well. They do need to add a drink menu because we had to ask our waitress what drinks they had. read more

Friendly establishment, sits in a kinda rundown looking shopping centers. At first I thought this place was going to be a burger joint, but to my surprise it turned out to be Mexican with all the frills. When you order a drink they come around with fresh fruit to enhance it. Ask for the soup of the day and they will give you a complimentary sample...this day was fideo which I love. Warm light crispy tortilla chips and very tasty salsas that pack a little heat. Entree I ordered street tacos and they were a hit...though they are served on a heat stone so I had to pull them off and let them sit on my salsa dish to cool so i could even grab to eat. Only downside since it was the weekend they do have menudo and pozole and i was wanting the pozole, but it is only served in one size enough for 3 ppl. I tried it one day when they had the mixed fajita special for $10.99. The chicken and beef fajitas were extremely chewy and tough like taqueria tough. The portion was good, but chewing the food was not enjoyable. The beans, rice, tortillas, and salsa was decent. Based on my first impression of the fajita meal, I will not pay full price for it. However, I will try something else just to give a second chance. What I really love is their interior. All their seats have cushioning. That's a big plus for me as if they are delayed and bringing out my food, I can sit comfortably and wait. That alone deserves a second chance and push my review really high for this place. read more

Hidden gem here. Divered far more than I was expecting. It had a touch of class with jazz music, a wine rack/selection, top notch service, and pretty damn good food!!! A pleasant ambiance. Started off with some Mango Margherita's, they were hands down the best ones I've ever had!!! Delish! Even the chips and salsas were amazing; one nice red salsa, and two small ones--one with a spicy green salsa (seemed like Serranos?) and the other was white, so of course I'm going to see what that's all about--it was some amazing blue cheese yummy sauce!?! Was not expecting that! They also brought us some complimentary pozole--delish! Anyhow. Shrimp cocktail for an appetizer--beautiful and plenty of shrimps with fresh avocado. I opted for the street tacos so I could try several of their meats--very fair priced (maybe $2.59 ea.). Got the chicken, el pastor (my least fav), and carnitas. My company got a Birria taco and a Brisket & cheese taco. We enjoyed it so much we forgot to get dessert! Next time! There was a slight mixup in the order which was promptly resolved. Being from San Antonio I was a bit hesitant about the poblano sauce on the beef enchiladas. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Normally I would have finished the entire plate of 3 enchiladas but the sauce was so rich I had to get a to go box for 1 and 1/3 enchiladas and some of the rice and beans. I've been going here for a few years, the service is always welcoming, and food is of great quality. I actually enjoy the steaks here, usually when you find a place where steak isn't the specialty then it's served average. Not here, so whoever's in the kitchen knows what they're doing. They recently added a live singer on Friday nights, she's really good and uses her restaurant singing voice instead of an overpowering concert venue voice. Ownership/management knows what they're doing, we look forward to returning each time. Last year after attending a major event, we brought 18 of our friends on a Sunday night about 45 minutes before closing (I'd informed them the day before). The entire staff served us wonderfully until we left about 30 minutes after closing time. Just impressive! read more

The ambience is nice, but the service was terribly slow and the food was decent if that but terrible for the price. I got flautas and they tasted like oil and nothing else. Another person at my table has gotten a quesadilla with meats inside and it was decent. Another got the appetizer platter for a meal and again, it was just decent. And one other had enchiladas... no. I'd rather go to papa gayos down the road. I'm betting the 4 stars are for their drinks. I haven't had any but I'd go back just to try them. LITERALLY a hidden gem! We came on cinco de mayo and there was 3 other tables besides ours. This place deserves WAY more recognition. The price is great, the service is perfection, and the food is AMAZING! Super clean restaurant with cute cups for sale, along with a juke box and a couple of TVs that I'm sure they wouldn't mind changing. This was our third time here, and we will definitely be back. Here's the description from the on line menu. They also have a super deluxe with octopus and shrimp for $10 more. Texas Parrillada (House Specialty) 3-4 People $47.00 Chicken, brisket, sausage, BBQ pork ribs. Parrillada served with flour or corn tortillas, rice, charro beans, pico and... We were stuffed afterwards and couldn't finish everything. Rather than salsa they had pico... That was the only very minor disappointment. Maybe salsa is too pedestrian for them. This is such a wonderful restaurant. We stopped here for lunch on a long layover and was so glad we picked this place. The salsas and chips were amazing... The margarita was yummy and the lemonade served in a beautiful jug was enough for 4 people. They started us off with a complimentary pozole which was delicious. TLDR; Texas Grill 49 dropped the ball a few times and made a poor first impression. This was my first time, first impression of Texas Grill 49 and they left an unpleasant taste in my mouth, so to speak. This review is for a pick-up order on a Tuesday night. I was treating my parents for any anniversary dinner and we decided to do take out and eat at home instead of dining in the restaurant. The place was completely empty except for about 5 employees who were very helpful and somewhat apologetic. This is not about them, I'm sure each of them gives good service and they were all very efficient with trying to right the wrong. This is about the kitchen at Texas Grille 49 messing up an order, twice AND THEN serving a wrong entree. When we arrived to pick up the order at the specified time, the restaurant did not have my order ready, in fact I suspect it wasn't even fired at that point. One of the servers responded quickly and communicated with the kitchen regarding this oversight. He took a photo of my order (from off of my phone) and at that point my order was made. I had ordered 3 entrees but only received two after waiting for ~10 or so minutes. I will say the food was hot and looked good from what I could tell. Immediately the third entree was fired at that point and I waited another 8-10 minutes while the first two entrees basically started dying in the to go bag. Chilean Sea Bass and Filet Mignon tend to be best served as fresh as possible. Of course this being a to go order we understood that it would likely not be as fresh as it would've been were we dining in. However, we didn't expect to have additional wait time for a forgotten dinner entree AFTER the entire order had been forgotten upon arrival. The unfortunate mishap continued, because when we got home the third order was not the Salmon I ordered for myself, but a decent sized white fish that tasted like a basic white fish (with that typical and subtle fishy after flavor); so NOT salmon. Overall the meal was fine. I honestly won't complain about taste and presentation, nor would I, being that it was a to go order served in styrofoam. Tbh, I don't think I would give them my business again, definitely not for a special occasion because as I mentioned this all happened when there were no guests dining in. You'd think the kitchen wasn't slammed or even moderately busy beyond food prep. I'll extend grace as sometimes kitchens have a rough start to their service. Hopefully it got better for others that chose to dine at Texas 49 Grille that evening. Addendum: The positives that I'll share were that the food was fresh and relatively tasty. The servers were ultimately helpful and their prices are pretty reasonable. My Dad enjoyed his steak, which was what we really cared about the most, (his birthday is the same day as my parent's anniversary). My Mom's fish was fine, as far as, the expected taste and so was mine, all things considered. read more
