June 3rd- Called and made appointment at Cocos by Starbucks for a fresh set of acrylic nails at 4pm. They took two lady's before me, one was there before I came and the other walked in after me saying she had appointment at 4 too. They both got taken before me. I waited for 30 mins before they sat me down but no one worked on my nails. I had plans at 5 but I won't be making it because of this service! If an appointment is made then it should be seriously held accountable. If I knew I'd be sitting here this long I wouldn't of even came today. Terrible Management! read more

This was the worst experience of my life coming to "coco nails", they waxed my eyebrows off, they cut my toes and bruised it. When I first walked in, they look at me with this judgement look on their face.The first thing they do is help another person before me and make me wait when I was there before that other client. As they called me up 15 minutes later to sit down and start my manicure the lady stops mid session and tells me to get off the seat and do my feet, so she can help someone else that came in way later. Then this other lady who waxed my eyebrows off and cut my toes. Was rushing the whole time and hurting me as she was doing it, I was so uncomfortable and never been in this situation before. As she does my eyebrows she puts her hand on my forehead and presses down hard, instead of asking me nicely to do it myself. No she insist she does it on her own. She proceeds to blame me for the situation that she has done to my face and blaming me for what happened. Not taking accountability for her actions. Me personally this hurt a lot because I put trust in business to make sure they know what they are doing at all times, I wouldn't want this on anyone and have the experience I've went through because workers like these aren't experienced enough to work and don't realized the outcome that can happen. I wouldn't write this review for nothing, trust me I always support local businesses but this can't happen to people at all. Lastly the owner "coco" comes in and I'm ballin my eyes out and can barely talk,asking her what will this lady get for her actions she has done, and she basically said nothing and will counting to work there. I'm a pretty easy going and easy to please person, but I had such a bad experience here, I needed to share. This was at their location near Starbucks outside the mall. My mom and I went for basic mani-pedis at about 5:30pm on a Thursday. - We were brought to open massage chairs for pedicures after about a 20 min wait. Her water was scalding hot and she burned her toes before yanking her feet back out. Then it took several minutes before we were able to get someone's attention to correct the problem. - I'm used to nail salons trying to upsell, but no kidding, they tried upselling me on various services 5 times in the time we were there. The worse part was they usually didn't mention they would be an additional charge. I usually go to a different salon where callus removals are included in the pedicure; thankfully I asked how much, since he said it would be $10. Um, no thank you. - As the technician is working on my feet, another girl comes over and just grabs my hands and starts the manicure portion. I've never done a simultaneous mani-pedi, but went with it. Again, I'm usually very easy going. So I have the massage chair on, she's asking me to hold my arm in the air to do a half-baked massage (which is NOT comfortable or relaxing since I'm literally holding my arm above my head supporting its weight) and trying to keep my feet still since the first guy is still painting my toenails. Mind you, I'm also pregnant, and here to relax a little bit. Then the girl motioned for me give her my other arm across my body. I did not want my torso to be twisted and pulled on top of all of this, especially with my belly, so I asked if she would come over to the other side of the chair so I wouldn't have to reach across. Not only did she do it very grudgingly, she started speaking with the first technician in a different language, so you know she's complaining about me haha. After another terrible "massage" with me holding that arm in the air and being yanked around, she tells me she'll meet me at the table to paint my nails when I'm done. - So usually at this point, they allow your toenails to dry or help you put on your shoes to walk to the manicurist's table. The first technician finishes up and tells me to wash my hands and go to the table where the girl is waiting for me. I said no problem and wait for him to help with my sandals. Eventually, after some confusion, I realized he wanted me to walk barefoot to the sink to wash, then to the table. I finally am fed up at this point and point to the floor and tell him to look at it. There are nail cuttings, hair, and dirt visible on the floor; there was no way I was walking across the salon barefoot. So again, they start chattering to each other in their language, likely complaining about me. On top of all of this, my mom's nails were cut crooked where she had to go home and fix them. And my nail polish on my fingernails chipped later that night. I did not expect to write this much. To summarize: I do not recommend this salon. Poor product, more expensive than other salons in Hilo, and extremely poor service. We will not be going back. read more

Seriously go anywhere else but here! I had the worst manicure in my life today! I went in for an acrylic removal and manicure. Roxy removed the acrylic, did a quick swipe with her dremel like tool, and then went to grab the polish bottle! I ask why she's not doing my cuitcles- she says that's extra. Um...so they charged my extra for acrylic removal, tell me please what do they consider a manicure? I've gotten enough in my life to know she was trying to pull a fast one! She was trying to pass off a color change for a mani. She finished polishing and walked off without saying anything leaving me confused if she was done as i didn't even get lotion or a hand massage. I waited about 10 minutes sitting there before standinf to leave when she waved bye saying i was good to go....the proof is in the pudding, look st the attwhced pic of polish on my fingers and dry cuticle. Signed in about 15-20 mins after the doors opened...was told the wait would be 30 mins for a pedi. Waited almost an hour and watched everyone that signed in after me get serviced first. Then finally when the guy checking everyone in called on me, he was going to sit me down for a mani not a pedi????? I was so frustrated I walked out. (I give props to the lady at the front who told me sorry as she seen the mishap going on with me and was super nice!!!) I still left tho. My teenage daughters love getting full set nails. Coco always is able to get them in on same day and it's a good location because if there is a wait we can walk and shop at the mall while waiting. BUT.....I warn everyone to PAY IN ADVANCE! Every single time we go even with being very very clear that we only want the full set Acrylic nails which is listed as $35 when it comes time to pay it's at least $20-40 more. I was pretty bummed out after my pedicure here. I wanted to treat myself to the deluxe as I'm pregnant and needing a little extra foot massage. The nail tech was nice enough, but he filed my nail too short and i started bleeding. Then he asked if I wanted my calluses removed, which my bad for most asking if it's an additional charge because I've never had a pedicure where they don't automatically take off your calluses, but come to find out after it was an additional $10! And the deluxe part was some extra scrub and lotion, no food massage. He did one coat of polish and that was it. Not worth the extra money , very disappointing. read more

I recently did a pedicure at the new location by starbucks Puainako and I am really in love with the cleanliness and organized layout of the nail salon. Coco nails is FABULOUS and I don't know why the ratings aren't higher. I stayed at the Naniloa and saw someone's nails and that's how my cousin and I headed to Coco's. Friendly staff makes you feel as if you go there every week, we were tempted to get gel nails and our hands and frat looked like ocean pearls. Highly recommend. See you again soon! read more

It's a convenient place being in the mall, but I just got my nails done there yesterday. I got acrylic gel nails and I was NOT satisfied how they came out. My nails on both hands weren't the same length which is totally noticeable and when I mentioned it to the employee who was doing it she told me that it was because I wasn't let it dry, which I was. I'd try to look at it to make sure its what I wanted so I knew I was getting my money's worth and she would tell me to put it back in the dryer even though they were dried already. After I asked her if she could fix it she decided that painting over my nails 2-3 more times was gonna fix it but just made it worse. So now one hand, my nails are shorter and a lot more thicker. The worst experience I ever had in a nails salon. The woman I had ignored me when I spoke to her and asked her questions, and spoke rudely to me while doing my nails. I chose a dark pink color and got this instead. Never put a base coat on my gel, did not push my cuticles, and didn't paint my whole nail. She also left a sharp piece of polish on my nail that I had to file off myself. $40 for bad service, a color I didn't want, and a sad nail job. 10/10 do not recommend. I've been here three years ago, and they were good, but I guess the place changed. read more

Wow. I am so over this awful place! I moved to the island from Honolulu where you can expect a high degree of professionalism and make no mistake you will not get this at this salon. First, I was getting my nails done by a girl who called herself "Li", who acted strangely each time I went there so I had my misgivings already. Solidified when she sloppily injured my finger with a tool to the point where it not only was bleeding profusely, but left a dent in the side of my finger. You folks are lucky you still exist. She kept making odd comments about how her boss, Coco also does nails well and then kept saying she was leaving the salon for good. Ok. Whatever..? So I call asking for an appointment with her once more (don't ask me why - it's really about not being familiar with the others there at this point) and the owner Coco tells me that no one there by this name. Really. And that they have never had a "Li" work there. That's interesting because I previously made appointments this way. Instead, Coco offers to do my nails and I agree to try. (I believe Coco stepped in finding out that I am a high tippper). Funny thing is that when I go in oh look, there's "Li" and she is there each time too. So it's okay to flat out lie to your customers? My final straw was today with Coco. Four of my nails were shaped noticeably lopsided. I politely requested she shape the ends to fix the problem. Instead of doing this, she argues with me saying that there is no problem, and then- actually hands me her nail file saying "you do it". You cannot honestly be serious! I reminded her that in fact this is the reason she is the service provider being paid for this job. Again more ridiculous, circular arguing that made no actual sense when I stopped her to tell her to stop, I need this fixed, and also remind her that customers need to leave happy with the results -PERIOD. Would you accept a hair salon doing whatever they feel like with YOUR hair? Nope. This place is full of the most unprofessional, rude, egocentric behavior that does NOT serve you, the paying customer. Find someplace else there are plenty of respectful salons in Hilo! read more

Worst salon I have ever been to in my entire life. My experience was ridiculously poor. I made an appointment for a gel mani full set & regular pedi on the phone for 1:00pm. I get there and wait half an hour until I'm seated at a chair. Roxy, a seemingly popular nail tech, was working on my nails. Her work was rushed and it showed. She was constantly answering phone calls during the process (which I of course totally understand and don't mind!) but while on one phone call, she jerked while the cylindrical file that rotates was smoothing nail and nipped my cuticle, which was extremely painful. She gasped and said sorry, and I was okay because I understand mistakes happen. She gets done with my nails and says I can go pay, to which I mentioned that I had made an appointment for a pedicure too. She was convinced that I hadn't and tried to dissuade me from getting it, even saying that she can do a quick color but not the full pedicure treatment because she had an appointment at 2. I told her nicely that if I had started on time I would've had the time to do both, but said I would rather have a cleaning done than a paint job. She mumbled something under her breath and told me to choose a color. I had just assumed she was going to rush me out to get in her other client. I chose a color - to which she then said she did not have and proceeded to use a color she thought was similar, which it absolutely wasn't. The whole time she was trying to upsell me, asking if I wanted to wax, or if I wanted a design or if I wanted gel, to which I turned down because I knew she was on a time limit and had another customer waiting. I was confused as to why she was asking me to do all of these additional things even though just earlier she was rushing. As she's doing my pedicure she's literally cutting off skin from the sides of my toenail and ripping it away from my toe which was extremely painful. She finishes the job and tells me to sit there for another few minutes until it dries. She comes back and tells me they're dry and put on my slippers for me. When I left I realize my nails were in fact not dry and she had smudged a majority of my nails. Later that day I had slight toe pain but figured it was just from the heavy probing she was doing. The next morning I woke up with severe pain, swelling, and (I'm sorry, TMI) pus. Long story short, I have an infection that's painful, smudged nails, the wrong color, experienced miscommunication & rushed service. (This was my second visit. My first visit was just as bad but that's just as long a story. But trust me, it was bad) but I figured I would still give them a second chance because I thought maybe I just came on a bad day. During my visit I also saw them be extremely rude and off-putting towards customers in person and on the phone, because they were very busy. I'm sure some people have their reasons for liking this place so much, but as for me I'll never be returning. read more

For starters I'm someone who never does my nails, but decided it was worth the expense since my natural nails are on the longer side and with my new job they would definitely break or chip. I was a walk-in and they told me I'd have to wait 2 hours but if they have any space available before then they'd call. They called 10 minutes later. I go in and was greeted by the woman who called. She asked what color I wanted and I chose a bright yellow w/glitter. I was asked if i wanted to go longer on the length which i did and when i told her she said I'd be better off with an overlay since the length i wanted wasn't too far off from natural nails. She also warned me that since I sent do my nails like this my nails will be tender for the rest of the day. 10/10 because I was seen 10 mins after walking in while they were short staffed and was given a recommendation of an overlay rather than her charging me 30+dollars for such a little amount of extra length. I always come here to get my nails done & the past 3 times have been so bad.. they have shitty customer service.. the second to the last time I went it I got a pedi & mani, not only did she take over 2 hours ( when my toes was also a simple just nail polish only) my toes where not the same color as my nails. It didn't look as bad till the next day. When I asked questions about the look I wanted she didn't even understand what I was asking so I just stopped talking. The next day I came in & got my toes re done & just did simple white tips. Not even a week and a half later the paint is almost all missing. Mind you I keep my toes good & are not rough on them. Usually they last over a month. I came in to fix my nail after week since it came off & they said that there going to charge me if they fix it when they have a "2 week" if it breaks within you can come back & get it fixed for free..Anyways the first REALLY BAD EXPERIENCE was horrible. 3 different ladies had to do my nails bc they weren't doing it right & supposedly "didn't know how " when they were such a simple set. They gave sooooo much attitude & even looked at each other & rolled there eyes. One of them even told me that I didn't have to act so dramatic.. while I was telling my friend that it wasn't how I wanted it.. they charged me $80 for that set, while my friend had her nails all with jewels & a lot more then mine & nicer & her nails came out to $60 that had really pissed me off.
