I have been taking my dogs to Cocoa Kennels for over 15 years. Currently I have a Brevard County dangerous dog and this kennel not only can accommodate him, but really takes good care of him. For my normal Weimaraner and American Bull Terrior (Pit Bull), they get treats, walks, played with, any special food or medicine needed, and are clean and happy when I pick them up. DO NOT BRING YOUR FUR BABY HERE!!!! I am extremely disappointed and horrified by the conditions at this kennel. We trusted them with our dog, but it was clear upon pickup that something was terribly wrong. The facility was filthy, reeking of neglect. They bring our baby out and to our shocking surprise, our dogs face was mangled and bloody! THEY DID NOT CALL US TO LET US KNOW SOMETHING HAPPENED!!! We were mortified!!!! Our dog came home visibly distressed, dirty, and in poor health, requiring an immediate visit to the emergency vet! Their excuse was that they left a bucket of water in the kennel with our dog and our dog ripped it up. Okay great but atleast call and TELL US! By the looks of not only her face but the rash all over her body from God knows what, this is not where your baby needs to stay! Trust me!!! $300 bill later, the vet confirmed that our dog had developed infections in her paws and health issues directly related to the unsanitary and unsafe environment at this kennel. This is completely unacceptable for a place claiming to provide professional care for pets. If you care about the health and well-being of your dog, avoid this kennel at all costs!!!! I left my golden retriever there for 2 weeks. When we returned to pick him uo, he had a huge bloody gash on his side. They pretended to be surprised and that it just must have happened but I took him to the vet and he said it had been there a while and it was starting to get infected. THEY BOARD RABBITS! Our rabbit was very well taken care of for $10 a day. We took all of his hay and veggies and pellets, bowls and even potty pads, but I was so appreciative of having a safe, caring place to keep him. So in full honesty, I didnt have my dogs stay there. I have boarded quite often in the past in other cities I've lived in, and this was terrible in comparison! I am used to kennels being clean, SMELLING clean, etc. This place was filthy and stunk of urine, like it had seeped into the concrete flooring. The inside pens looked filthy. The outside pens were cleaner but not much better. So glad I visited before I booked for my babies - they would have been terrified and traumatized by those conditions! read more

It takes a lot for me to rate only 1 star, but if there was an option for 0 stars, then Cocoa Kennels deserves exactly that. We had a pre-booked hotel for 3 nights in Florida that was not dog friendly. The hotel suggested Cocoa Kennels. On the website, Cocoa Kennels is described as a "tropical resort setting" almost "botanical garden- like" with a "huge" parking lot. They claim pets would much rather be here than with a friend or at home. There's also a "mammoth 75 x 50' playground." The inside is described as "practically equivalent to a 5 star hotel" and you'll forget you're inside a Kennel. There are separate wings for small, large and older dogs, so they can feel "safe and comfortable." Every dog room is a "two room 'suite', where there is an indoor bedroom for playing, relaxing, sleeping, and an outdoor run for exercising, visiting, & relieving themselves." It goes on to list a filtration system & ultraviolet sterilent system, plus multiple A/C zones and ceiling fans, and a daily cleaning regime. They provide "healthy" meals or you could bring your own food. Supposedly 24 hours listening music is played so your dog never feels alone. They offer 'a la carte' options such as a raised fleece Kuranda bed for $3/ day, peanut butter treats pizza snacks, and extra massage/play time for various prices. There is a "celebrity special care suite" that is a semi private wing with individual accommodations. It then says all rooms include: comfy sofa lounge area, 42" flat screen TV, DVD movie selection, a raised kuranda bed, and 4 playtimes. This sounds pretty phenomenal for a Kennel, right? Well i was highly impressed, so I made a phone call. The person that answered was the female owner of place. I explained that we were traveling and were looking for a place to board our dog, and that her Kennel sparked my interest because it sounded fantastic online AND was recommended by the hotel. She cut me off quite a few times, and had her young granddaughter there in the background. The conversation went like this: I would ask a question, she would partially answer it, stop to talk to her granddaughter, then get back on the phone. I chalked that up to kids will be kids, as the granddaughter is probably not there every day. I SPECIFICALLY asked what the difference was between a regular suite and the celebrity suite listed on the website and she explained that the ONLY difference was the celebrity suite came with 4 playtimes, where as a regular suite does not. She said because it was our first time, she would gift us those 4 play times. I thought, "wow that's great!" because I didn't have to pay the celebrity price then. I made a reservation for Libby. Upon arrival, I was EXTREMELY confused. The place is rather small, and you could easily miss it driving down the road. It also doesnt look anything like a botanical garden. The parking lot is NOT huge, there are only spaces for about 8-9 cars. I must be blind because there is no 'mammoth 75 x50' playground anywhere to be seen. Walking inside, it is most definitely not comparable to a 5 star hotel. It is very run down, paint chipping, random things in chairs, no rhyme or reason really. I The owner took our information, and kept referring to Libby as a 'he' when she was wearing a pink collar /leash. I then saw the so called "suite" my precious dog would be staying in, and it was nothing more than 4 small concrete walls with a small hole in the back, concrete floor, and metal cage door. It did not look, smell, or resemble anything "clean, safe or comfortable." Where was the couch? The tv? The dvd selection? I heard no music. I was not offered any a la carte options. I had to ask about the kuranda bed myself, otherwise it never would have been mentioned. I noticed the "healthy meal" options was Purina, which is practically dog poison, so thank God I sent Libby with her own food. I WAS SICK TO MY STOMACH leaving my dog there, but i did not have a choice that late in the game. On the morning of pickup, Libby was curled up in her cage, head down, & didn't even respond to my voice at first. She looked up when the Owner undid her lock on her cage with this sad, abandoned look in her eyes. I wanted to cry. She realized our family was there & quickly ran past the Owner, straight to the exit door, almost as if saying "Get me out of here!" She ran around in circles unsure of who to go to for loves and kisses. The owner herself stated that she was surprised that she was such a little energy ball because she didn't really move or make a sound during her stay. The owner also tried to charge me $5/day for a kuranda bed, I politely showed her that the website said $3 and she laughed & said she had no idea. She clearly has no idea about anything on the website because it was NOTHING like what was described. All I can say is How Dare You try to pass off that poor excuse of a Kennel as a "Tropical resort for Dogs." SHAME ON YOU read more

I have dropped my two Shiba Inu's off at Cocoa Kennels to stay at least one week several times now. I really like how they have dog runs that allow them to go outside if they want. Cocoa Kennel has been in business for over 45 years and the owners are on site. I would recommend this kennel to my friends. read more

I will say, I do regret boarding my dog at this so called "5 star hotel". We unfortunately had to evacuate for Hurricane Dorian and were unable to bring our dog (which I 100% regret). We usually boarded our chihuahua mixed dachshund at Barkingham Palace, but they had no spots available by the time the hurricane was expected to hit. I called, spoke to a women about our dog and she mentioned how they'll have another dog of the same breed with a very similar name. (I thought, great- they'll confuse the two). Upon bringing him, I was sick to my stomach nervous and apprehensive, even thought the reviews raves about this place. When I called the kennel, I specifically told them that my dog tends to like female handlers, which was promptly thrown out the window. He was handed over to a male handler, and my dog peed all over me which was a first. Upon returning to pick him up, the owner handed his "food", which definitely wasn't his food that I'd provided. During the phone call, they said that they would provide food, or you could bring your own. I chose to bring our own because I know that my dog is pretty picky. The food that they'd been feeding him was something from a can and it didn't look like wet dog food, but liquid? I wish I'd paid closer attention, but honestly just wanted to get my dog. When it was my turn to pay and get him, I was told that I would have to get him because he wouldn't let anyone else get to go outside for anything. He did his business on a potty training pad. Not happy, but considering the circumstances, I let it go. On the car ride home, he seemed ok, but not himself. He seemed sad, depressed, and disappointed in me. I could see it in his eyes. It's been about 3 days since I picked him up and he's still not adjusting well. Due to the rapid change to his diet arriving to the kennel, and coming home, my dog stool has not been well. We may be forced to take him to the vet, especially since he's otherwise a very healthy dog. I'm very disappointed with the care that was not given to him here at Cocoa Kennels. read more

We left our 2 dogs, Allie and Chole, for 9 days while we where on a cruise. We liked that the girls were together and had an inside (5' x 5')and outside (10' x 5') area. Then they took the girls out to a secured 6 ft high fenced area to play in 4 times a day. The owners, Paul and Deb, were very friendly and caring. Their helpers were great too. I'm so glad we found this kennel on Yelp and so close to the RV Park we stayed at nearby. We got tickets to the Kennedy Space Center and were going to spend the entire day there, including a 5PM atlas rocket launching a NASA weather Satellite. We couldn't leave our dog Fergie in the RV all day so we decided to take him and our cat Stormy to the kennel for an overnight stay. While there, we arranged to have them both groomed. The owners are super friendly and it's obvious they care for the animals and their customers. They were very friendly and even offered tips for nearby restaurants. Fergie has a bath, nail trim, cleaned his anal gland and got his "Scotty" cut. He looked very handsome! Stormy had a shampoo and comb-out and had her nails trimmed. She was soft and fluffy and they both smelled great when we picked them up he next morning. We were lucky that the launch was on-time and no delays, but we were told to just call and let them know if we wanted them to stay an extra day. The prices were very reasonable - $120 for boarding and grooming both pets. I definitely recommend using Cocoa Kennels if you're need pet care or grooming near the Space Coast! read more

We are here on a month vacation. I first called the kennel and arranged a tour of their facilities. Shelby (an employee) was super friendly and knowledgeable about all my questions. Showed me the entire kennel. They are undergoing some renovations to make the place better and newer for our fur babies. At this time I filled out all the paperwork ect. A couple days later I called and left a message that I was bringing my dog for day boarding. The owner then called back to confirm she received my call and was looking forward to seeing my dog. Yes they did take my dog right away from me as I got there, but this is for the dogs best interest and mine :). Both owners were there and asked questions about my dog and gave me several tips on the area. Very nice people! The place is clean and my dog seemed very happy. I love the fact that they do NOT intermix the dogs. This is the reason I drove a 1/2 to get to this kennel. There were a couple closer to the area I'm staying in but they put all the dogs together. I do not like that! I know my dog is safe here. They take them out to a play yard several times a day, so he had plenty of outside time. read more

My cat had to stay at a kennel and it ended up being 7 weeks before our home was ready! The people at this kennel are what makes it the best. The prices are fair and since kitty was there so long, they even gave me a special deal. Totally unnecessary but they are good people! They are very knowledgeable about dogs and cats. They take time to listen to you; to say hello; just to talk if you want. I dropped in unannounced a few times and the place smells wonderful; the pets are let out regularly and played with and talked to and petted; the litter boxes are clean; the food dish is full; the water dish is full and fresh-looking. My kitty was the queen cat for awhile ... maybe they make all pet owners think theirs is the best pet. I dropped off my golden before Christmas since I was going out of town. Annie had never been in a kennel and she is 10 years old. They called me on the second day so say she had a UTI. I was very upset as I was out of town and didn't know which vets were closed for the holidays but they arranged transportation to a local vet. This place is awesome!. I went on vacation an left my 9 month old Doberman with Coca Kennels for a week. This was the first time I have boarded him and was a little nervous. My puppy is a blue doberman with skin issues so i wasn't sure if they would be able to keep up with all his added supplements and sprays needed to keep his coat nice. I worried for nothing, they followed all my instructions to a tee. He didn't look stressed when I picked him up. I will take my dog back the next time I need to go out of town.
