Honestly, it's not bad at all. All of the flavors are non fat/no sugar added, which is good if you like to add the sugary toppings. Personally I'm not a big fan of a lot of toppings, so it tasted more like yogurt than anything else. I tried the taro flavor and it wasn't that bad, and the cake batter and vanilla were good as well. Great tasting froyo, rich, flavorful and not artificial tasting. Been on campus for almost two decades, and always a loved spot for the students and alums alike. They charge by weight. I grabbed an iced Americano and sat on the second floor this Sunday afternoon. The beverage was okay, and the decoration made it cozy for studying. However, it was noisy afterward because more and more people went in, sitting around tables and chatting loudly. I love this place for their BYO froyo cups. I'm a green tea lover, usually adding white chocolate chips and mocha to my froyo, they have taro and other flavors to try. I don't recommend getting bubble tea here, it's not their forte. Just go for the froyo. It's self-serve so you can get as much or as little as you want. A great place to catch up with some friends, while also having some great cold drink. Anytime I go yo Cocomero, I get the strawberry and banana smoothie. It is usually sweeter then what I would like my smoothie to taste like, however, it's still a good smoothie overall. They also serve frozen yogurt(plus the toppings) here, and have a lot of seating. Most of my visits here have been a delight, except for one time. Although when you go as often as I you probably will have that one or two "so, so" moments. In the better weather I run and stop at this cafe as a half point. I choose this place as a half point because of its bright and colorful theme, and large variety menu. On my runs I always go for a non-dairy based boba tea (usually Black Sugar), and they are ALWAYS perfect! If I am going just to chill I usually go for their frozen yogurt, with all the toppings your bowl can handle. Which is never a bad experience! The service here is great, there is this one younger guy who is there often who I enjoy small talking to. I have probably visited the place more the 20+ times and will continue to while I am here, and the only time my experience wasn't perfection was the only time I ordered a coffee. It took very long, and it kinda just tasted like a buttered biscuit, which was not the chosen flavor. The best part about the coffee was the lid I was given had an "convenient" extra whole which spilled the coffee all over my hoodie. IL over UT :) I really like the vanilla and pistachio frozen yogurt with mochi as my topping of choice. I'm pretty simple when it comes to flavors and don't go overboard with the toppings but hey, to each their own. There are 2 levels and I sat upstairs and had a good view of the campus and the chairs are comfortable too! I am not sure if they offer WiFi here but if they do then this would be a perfect place to bring your laptop and have a snack :) My only suggestion would be to add some green tea or taro flavored frozen yogurt. Cocomero is probably the best frozen yogurt place I've been to. It beats the likes of the well-known Pinkberry and Red Mango, and even the lesser known Tutti Frutti and Sweet Frog. In fact, I don't think I can accurately call this cafe a frozen yogurt place anymore. Cocomero recently re-painted the walls and brought in new furniture. It feels a lot cozier with the new cushioned chairs and couches. The shop has always been well cleaned and the toppings seem to be changed regularly to assure that they're fresh. While the flavors and atmosphere are nice, the shop does not offer sample cups like every other froyo place I have been to, I have found a couple of the employees to be a little less than friendly, and the place can get to be pretty loud. What can be better than froyo by the ounce? Getting to pick your flavors, how much you want for each, toppings = pure perfection. There were a wide variety of flavors to choose from ranging from mango to red velvet. The thing I love about buying by the ounce is that I get to try every flavor I want. But you have to be careful because some of the flavors I tried the froyo was a bit too watery or not creamy enough for my liking. There were also a wide variety of toppings. The fruits were fresh, and this place even has mochi as a topping. Cocomero is simply delicious. Just be careful about how much froyo you get. I like the seasonal change in flavors so there are always new ones to try with the favorites still available. My personal favorite is the pineapple, taro, and milk tea when they had it! I also love the pumpkin spice so look for it during the fall. There are lots of drinks to choose from that are based on personal preference. Since it's close to campus, they definitely overcharge you for the frozen yogurt: it costs 0.49 per ounce. To keep it in perspective, the cheapest place I've been to charged 0.39 per ounce. Other than that, the area is decorated really nicely and is filled to the brim with Asian people. I'm actually shocked that they don't have some sort of stamp or incentive system. On my recent trip to California I made it a point to get to two froyo places - Pinkberry and Yogurtland. Despite liking the tartness of PB's original flavor, it just couldn't match up to the variety of flavors, toppings, and the cheap pricing of YL. Unfortunately, from what I had heard, the only other froyo place with the "by-the-weight" model in Chicago was pretty bad. I've known about the one in Champaign for a while but I'd never gone...perhaps due to a fierce loyalty to Jarling's Custard Cup and the Moonstruck that Cocomero replaced. But, as a lover of froyo I had to see what the fuss was about... Fellow Yelpers, Yogurtland has come to the Midwest. Tons of flavors, tons of toppings, cheap price, and super happy decor. And most importantly - it's good. ESPECIALLY the red velvet froyo. My friends described my reaction as if I had just saw the love of my life. In-freaking-tense. I'm happy I have a Custard Cup alternative to go to if I visit UIUC in the colder months. read more

Hello - I'm writing this to inform everyone about this Cocomero location and how terribly the owner, Colin Kim, treats his employees. I was a former employee at another location that Colin used to own and recently sold. He still owns this current location. To sum everything up into a shorter, condensed version, Colin is withholding almost $1000 in tips from me and my other co-workers and is refusing to pay us these tips even though we found them in a bag inside the safe labeled "Employee Tips". He says he is not obligated to pay us these as we are not tip-based employees; however the new Illinois Federal Wage laws say otherwise. He also has never paid us time and a half for working overtime and holidays, which is illegal. He says he doesn't owe us that pay either. He paid us in cash for a long time because he didn't want to deal with the IRS, which is ALSO illegal. Colin is Korean and there were many other Korean employees working there; however they made $4 more an hour than the American employees. We did the same exact tasks at Cocomero and had the same responsibilities yet he showed favoritism towards them simply because they are Korean. He is showing discrimination in the workplace based on race and giving unequal pay. Colin would also continuously approach the female American employees working and come up behind us putting his hand on our backs and rubbing where our bra straps were. This made us extremely uncomfortable but didn't know who to tell as this is a franchise solely owned by him; there is no corporate. Cocomero also has violated many health codes in the past. The owner does not treat his employees well at all, disrespects them, and does not care about customers. He only cares about himself and the money he can scam off of people by being sneaky (i.e. your yogurt cup is not tared when you weight it so you are paying for the whole cup which I also learned is illegal in the frozen yogurt business). I urge everyone who reads this to please no longer support this business. There are way better frozen yogurt places in the area that will treat their employees with respect and be honest! read more

I used to go to Pinkberry a lot because I loved their plain tart frozen yogurt. Cocomero's plain has a very similar taste; it's sweet and tart but very subtle. I only got fruit for my toppings but they were pretty fresh, and there are so many other kinds of toppings, too! My son loved his chocolate flavored frozen yogurt. The bathroom is also very nice and the entire atmosphere is cozy. Highly recommend! read more

I'd say the froyo and toppings were top notch here. The mango and blueberries were fresh, and the toppings bar was kept really neat and clean. It's the first time I've seen the cylindrical wafer cookies as an option, and those seemed to be a big hit with everyone in the shop. Although, there were some flavors "out of service," and the brownie and Oreo bites weren't exactly bites. I personally like the pieces a little smaller so I can get a little bit of a lot of toppings and not pay $10 for just a "snack" of froyo. There was only a one stall restroom on the first floor, and I'm not sure about the second story, but there was certainly adequate seating (both inside and out). We came near to when they were closing, but they were still very friendly and had all the toppings out.
