There are so many options but there's only 3 options of custard (vanilla, chocolate and strawberry), then you decide between a bunch of toppings and mix-ins. A local favorite of Champaign that is busy all the time. Tried the lemon custard. Drive thru definitely took some time to get our order. Custard was served in a Chinese togo box, that's definitely different. First bite had a subtle lemon flavor and finished with a cake flavoring. Neat spot with a variety to choose from. I've never understood the hype. It's FINE. Is it the best thing ever? Not even remotely. It's thin and not very creamy and the flavors are not very interesting. It's just not well made if you've had great ice cream or gelato. Last night the cherry I had was pink but did it taste like an actual cherry? Not really. And the people working there were way too busy joking with each other to make orders for the long line of people waiting for their ice cream. I just don't get it. The staff is always super sweet and friendly, I love the overall vibe of the building. They also make their own waffles! It's a great place to bring family and friends. Their basic flavors are good, chocolate, lemon, strawberry, etc. But they're very inconsistent with the snowstorms depending on who is making them. We like to put peanut butter in them and sometimes you'll just get a huge chunk of peanut butter in your mouth and other times it's very well blended. I think the issue is their peanut butter is way too thick to use in a frozen treat like ice cream/custard. They also don't grind up the Oreo topping beforehand and just break them apart with their hands. This resulted in an unpleasant texture of the custard. I would go back but only for a regular custard without toppings. I know this place is a town favorite but honestly, it's a hit or miss. I think it's just average- not bad, but not the best either. read more

Travelled over the 100 miles to get ice crème here :-). Whenever we are in town aim to stop by. Happening place so near to campus so at after dinner/evenings in warm weather expect some lines (either inside or in the drive thru) Service is fast, friendly mid-western and efficient. I had the peanut butter fudge cup. It was yummy. The mix ins and toppings make it an even better experience. The seating outside is on benches around a table. Very good custard at an iconic shop. The frozen custard base is closer to soft serve ice cream than most. It is just a little thick with a hint of the egg in the recipe. On the other hand, we've tried a variety of flavors -- vanilla, chocolate, strawberry -- and they tend to be milder than you might expect for ice cream. If you want something punchy and sweet, go for the "snowstorm" (toppings mix into the custard). The shop trades on its nostalgia. Service by the teenage staff is slow and the building looks like it has seen better days. But maybe that's the point: remember when you were young and the building was new? The service and ambience are either charming or disappointing, depending on whether the nostalgia hits. In any case, the shop is located kitty corner to a city park. Definitely the hype of CU, the line is always out the door on a nice day! Decided to splurge and the the supreme waffle basket which comes with 2 scoops (we got chocolate and strawberry), 1 topping (fudge), 1 nut (cashew), whipped cream and a cherry. The fudge as perfect and their signature! Honestly felt like you get more ice cream either in a cup vs waffle cone compared to the waffle basket. Next time I'll come back, I want to try the shakes! We came in a cold Saturday afternoon. There was no line and was able to get my custard right away and the staff was friendlyI didn't see many flavors on their menu and ended up getting vanilla. I do agree with my fellow yelpers on their pricing. It's definitely on the expensive side. Its a pretty standard frozen custard/ice cream stand. No frills, but delicious! I seem to remember the menu being a little larger in the past, but they still have the classic treats. The only "downsides" is that there is nowhere to eat the custard inside anymore. There is plenty of outdoor seating, but that doesn't work in the winter. Then again, if I am buying frozen custard in the middle of winter, it must be good! Also, they don't post all their flavors. I asked the worker what they special flavor of the week was and she rattled off 10 additional flavors. Awesome, but you gotta put those on the menu! Drive through was pretty quick so it was nice not having to get out of the car. First off, the mini is the perfect size. To be honest anything bigger than that is pretty extreme to me cause I was struggling to finish that Second, I tried the strawberry shortcake which was absolutely lovely. Highly recommend that one. So.. I don't know what took me so long to try Jarling's until now, but I finally stopped by to see what's the hype. Did they meet my expectations? Yes! Their menu is super extensive with various toppings and ice cream combinations. I ended up getting their homemade fresh waffle cone sundae with one topping and ended up getting cookie dough bites. The waffle cone sundaes comes with nuts, whipped cream, and cherry on top, but I opted out of the whipped cream and cherry. I think the prices are pretty reasonable for the quality and taste of ice cream. The custard texture is smooth and creamy, and not too sweet. Their menu houses a variety of frozen treats, from custard, to snowstorms, to floats, and cakes. I got the coffee oreo snowstorm, and it was delish! Don't underestimate the sizes! I got a 12oz, and it was more than I anticipated. The snowstorm wasn't as thick as a DQ blizzard, but it was light and creamy, easy to finish. They also have a drive thru! The building itself looks like a diner, bringing with it an old school charm.
