Her teaching style was straightforward and effective. She conveyed important information in a way that was easy to take in and easy to understand. She gave us tips on remembering and resources to help us. You could tell that she really knew what she was talking about. Our class asked just about every question imaginable, and Emily answered each one quickly, honestly, and without hesitation. She did not pull punches when addressing the difficult questions either, which I really respected. Her level of knowledge and composure immediately earned everyone's trust. She brought CPR dummies and practice AEDs so we could get hands-on experience, which made the training feel real and important. She even went out of her way to teach us how to use some of our safety equipment in the workplace. By the end of the session, I felt both educated and more capable of acting in a real emergency. I truly believe that society would be better if everyone took this course. I would absolutely trust Emily in a medical situation and now, thanks to her, I feel more confident that I could help too. I think everyone should take this class.

They would be kept in a separate room alone and staff would bring a meal to them. How does that not negatively impact the developing brain of a teenager? What about HR? I personally spent up to six days at a time on HR. When on HR we would have to be silent all day and stand away from the group. During meals we would get our meal last and sit at a separate table facing the wall. In total I probably spent two plus months of my time there in silence. That's nothing compared to some of the other girls who were on HR for longer periods of time more often than myself. There were no therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist or counselors. How could one call themselves a therapeutic boarding school when no one on the staff is licensed or certified? You lied to and manipulated parents. Rick Odell told my dad that I couldn't survive on my own and I won't make it without them. He also told me that he was going to get custody of me past my 18th birthday and keep me there as long as he saw fit. All that mattered was keeping students there as long as possible to make the most money. I remember all these activities that were promised upon admission. Then when it came time to do something that cost money we were told that the academy can't afford it. So that snowboarding that was always talked about to my dad... I think I only went 2 or 3 times in the three winters I was spent there. I of course went more when my dad came to visit but like I said the times the academy paid for with the other students, yeah that only happened a few times. Oh and the equine program, that cost extra to participate in. I should also talk about the pathways program. I can't even count all the times we ran out of food and when we called to ask to get taken grocery shopping we were told they didn't have the staffing for it. So my mom would have to order food and have it delivered to the house for myself and other students. So the money my parents paid wasn't enough to ensure I could eat? I should have called CPS. What about the $25 a week grocery budget given to us. $25 for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week. How is that enough? And we couldn't just go to the academy to eat because again, no staffing to pick us up so we could eat at campus. We had no money because pathways wasn't given an allowance for some reason so we couldn't just go to the store and buy food ourselves. Was this your way of maintaining control? We are slowly waking up and acknowledging the abuse we suffered at your hands. And we will no longer be silent. You can't force me to sit in silence for days at a time anymore. I will keep talking.

There's so much to do and see from skiing, mountain biking, road biking, river rafting, climbing, hiking, and checking out the great variety of terrain. The views of the mountains and the high desert makes the time spent here worth the drive from California (aside from my being with my son!). Consumer prices are a bit lower than in the Bay Area where I live, so that's a bonus. There are many new hotels and lovely bed & breakfasts in Bend. Lots of trendy restaurants to test as well! One summer day I enjoyed tastings from several restaurants which had set up tents along the Deschutes River. There was live music and plenty of friendly people, although not nearly the large crowds I'm used to. The next day I attended a Beer Festival featuring over 40 micro breweries in the area. This event was held at the new outdoor amphitheater and also featured live music. Many, many people travelled to this event on their bicycles, which were locked up to the surrounding fences. A really cool, mellow atmosphere alongside the river banks.

We tried public school for middle school and regret it. Our son is looking forward to going back to Waldorf! The tuition may seem expensive, but they do have financial assistance. A few months ago, I broke my 6 year old iPhone that I was too stubborn to replace. After they did a phenomenal job fixing it for me, I dropped it in the lake (my own fault) and it was clear it was time to just replace the device. I tried going to my phone carrier first (my phone carrier has 2 stores in bend. I have NEVER had a good experience at either of my own phone carrier's stores.) After wasting 2 hours in one of these said stores, I knew it was time to call in the big guns and just go to Mactek. Let me tell you I could have easily saved more than 2 hours of my life if i had just went to Mactek first. Colm greeted me the moment I walked in, I told him I need a new phone, gotta transfer some data from my old one that barely works, and he was more than helpful to all of my problems. He went so far above and beyond to make sure I was set up with my new phone, he even transferred my number/cellular data onto my new phone without me having to go back to my phone carrier store. I recently completed an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course and was very impressed with the…read morequality of the instruction. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and had a clear command of the current American Heart Association guidelines and standards. He explained not only what has changed, but also the clinical reasoning behind the protocols in a way that was easy to understand and apply. As a registered nurse, he also brought a clinical perspective to the course that I really appreciated. Coming from a paramedic background myself, I found that perspective particularly valuable because it allowed me to look at ACLS care from a somewhat different point of view. One of his greatest strengths was his ability to tailor the instruction to the individual students. He modified scenarios to reflect each student's particular career field and level of experience, which made the training much more relevant and realistic. Although the American Heart Association understandably has very specific requirements regarding what must be covered in an ACLS course, he was able to work within those requirements while recognizing when a student needed more explanation and when someone with greater experience was ready for a more advanced discussion. He was knowledgeable, approachable, and an excellent instructor. I came away from the course having refreshed my ACLS skills while also gaining some new clinical insight. I would definitely recommend this instructor and course to other healthcare professionals.
