The name Jennie Wade comes from Mary Virginia Jennie Wade, supposedly the only civilian killed during the battle of Gettysburg by a stray bullet, though there is some controversy about whether or not that bullet was in fact stray or aimed. It's certainly nice enough, but as far as gift shops go in the Gettysburg area, really doesn't amount to all that much. Some souvenirs, baskets, jars of jelly, jams and a lot of whatnots. For most things, however, their prices are reasonable. I bought a cucumber dill salad dressing for about a dollar less than I saw in other places. The staff is super friendly and all of the items are uncluttered and well display.

That said, the owner was incredibly sweet to my niece Rosie--she even posed with her childhood teddy bear and took a photo to hang on the shop's wall. The sales staff went above and beyond in assisting us. There's a wide selection of items to choose from-a bit of organized chaos for me but that's a personality critique of myself, perhaps. The prices are affordable; we purchased 5 items of clothing for around $250.00, including Fall outerwear. The clothing seems to be well made for the price; they provided adequate space for trying on clothing; afforded multiple size and style options; and the customer service was outstanding. Food is thoughtful and created and prepared by true foodies. You can tell they make and serve what they like to eat themselves. Our daughter had a loaded cheesesteak which was amazing!! We each bought one of their stunning Haitian metal art works, all the more pleased because part of the money goes to these amazing Haitian artists and the nonprofit that supports them. My selection is in the photo attached. They also have some gorgeous "candles" for those who must avoid candles because of the fragrance. These are beautifully designed glass containers to which you add what's necessary for them to burn as candles but with virtually no fragrance. As always, this shop has various items you just don't see anywhere else. Special thank you to the owner for providing a platform for these talented Haitians who have suffered so much. To start, their prices are below what other places charge for commodities (though they might be going through an inventory reduction exercise, so your mileage varies). The owner took the time to explain to us how she processed the artwork. She speaks about the history of Gettysburg and the paintings with such passion. They're also at the center of town and near the transit station, so super easy to get to. I only wish they were bigger... though we were able to do about 3/4 of our shopping for this trip at this store.
