Every tine I visit the Lancaster County Dutch Market, I leave with a lot of goodies! They have everything from Amish potato salad, fresh fruits, fried chicken, doughnuts, and even a Dutch restaurant. I usually get some of my favorites like deviled eggs and fried chicken, but always leave with much much more. I know now to go straight for the shopping cart instead of the basket, because it just isn't enough. This place reminds me of an indoor night market with different sections and a surprise around every corner. Be sure to visit the pretzel section which I adore the sour cream butter dipped pretzels. The hot food section usually has a fast moving line and I routinely get the fried chicken with potato wedges. The schedule is a bit odd, so check before you go, it only opens on certain days of the week. read more

One of the great features of the market are the multiple stores under one roof - King's fried chicken, Lapp's candy and pretzel store, the Dutch Family Restaurant serving breakfast and brunch in the rear, Beiler's donuts where you can find great last-minute bargains right before closing time, and a host of other vendors. If you live in Germantown, visit the town or are driving through on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, you must make a plan to visit the Lancaster County Dutch market! My dining companions and I arrived on a Thursday morning around 11:30 a.m. The market had just opened a few hours earlier and business was brisk. There are lots of shoppers and lunch patrons browsing the various stalls. No stall is more crowded than the fried chicken stall, King's Pit BBQ. I cannot say enough good things about the fried chicken and encourage you to get in line and pick up pieces to eat at the few tables on site or to take home lunch or dinner. The chicken is moist and crisp and delicious and truly inexpensive. You might be daunted by the line, but I assure you it moves so swiftly those folks definitely have the system down pat. I also highly recommend the pretzel wrapped hotdog and the plain pretzel with or without salt. These are completely delicious and served warm. Beiler's donuts also comes highly recommended. There are so many options to choose from but the maple bacon was irresistible. There is also a produce stand, a juice stand, a candy store, a butcher counter, a bakery, a dry goods/spice vendor a sit down restaurant and a furniture vendor. The freshly made orange juice is a true delight. All of the staff we encountered were courteous, thoughtful, and welcoming. The only downside is, I wish there were more tables even outside to sit and enjoy some of the items we had purchased for lunch.(other than the sitdown restaurant, which is specific to restaurant ordering.) Inside these doors you will find a variety of good foods. I tried the home made donuts, which were several varieties of delicate moist and melt in your mouth freshly prepared desserts. I also dined at a diner that serves amazing waffles, the table shared a gigantic soft, delicate waffle with an apple pie like topping and mountains of fluffy whipped cream. (Definitely enough to share) we all sampled a Ruben sandwich (oh this sandwich was so good Lol I ate too much in Maryland,) it's not a fancy looking place but a local led me there and I am glad they did! Parking was super convenient out in the front. I heard there is a barbecue place inside, I will hit that on my next visit. The prices were reasonable considering the portion sizes and quality. Fabulous market with plenty of food options. I really liked the bakery section which had tons of choices of bread and the donuts. I recommend the apple fritter, it was delicious. The meat section is also pretty good as well. They have a few speciality cuts you can get. I would get the produce here. I thought it was about overpriced but the quality is very good so I can't complain too much. I just think for produce the farmers market on the weekends is better. When I was a wee lad, I thought that this Dutch Market was unique to our area. I was like, thank goodness these people have decided to open up the one and only Dutch Market in Germantown Maryland. I mean... I knew that they probably sold at farmers markets and roadside stands. But I thought this shopping mall like concept was completely unique to Germantown. It took me YEARS to make it there, because of the odd hours. I had tasted fried chicken from there before I even made it into the market, and knew that I was in for a treat. When you walk into the Dutch Market... usually amongst a throng of other people, the first thing you're hit with is the smell of butter that they are dipping hot fresh pretzels into. What a way to start an experience. I feel like my home should have a vat of butter at the entrance where I dip pretzels in when people come over. You walk around the perimeter and find baked goods, flowers, dried fruits and candies, seasonings, meats, and ALL sorts of wondrous things. I'll tell you what. You can't beat their price on bay leaves lol. I know... such an odd thing to be excited about - but seasonings are one of those things where you can really get them at a good discount if you know where to look. I've also gotten a good deal of dried fruits and what not at that store. Can I tell you how many pies and baked goods I've eaten from that stand. A LOT. They are all pretty standard tbh. But they are freshly baked and they are very reasonably priced. They also always have baked goods on discount as well. I'll tell you what isn't standard, those pretzels. Those pretzels are both dangerous and some of the most delicious pretzels ever. Comparable to pretzels you'll get on the streets of Philly. If I was smart, I'd stop by on a weekly basis. But also... I will say... the parking lot on the weekend is quite atrocious. Also, spoiler alert: This is not the only Dutch Market lol. There's also one in PG. And probably many throughout the country. But, I will say... we are still very lucky to have it in Germantown, and I'd highly recommend you making a stop by. read more

What a great experience. This was my first time going to an Amish Market. They have the best pretzels I've ever had! They have a variety of different pastries, deli items, fruit, fresh cut meats, produce, candy, cakes and much more. Everything is fresh! If you're ever in Germantown be sure to stop by this place. They're only open on specific days depending on the time of year so be sure to check the times. The service was great! Everyone seemed so happy and welcoming. First time at the Dutch Market. It is my opinion that everybody should go at least once. It's fabulous. So many fresh bakery, meats, fruits/vegetables, cheeses, spices offerings. We focused on Beiler's Donuts which are incredible. All the vendors are friendly. Shout out to Thomas at Beiler's who explained that there is a Buy One, Get One Free promotion and then the remainder is donated to the local food bank. The amount of options is overwhelming and exciting. I really look forward to coming back to try more and enjoyed seeing what all of my friends ordered that I'll have to try on my own too. What we got: Jalapeno cheddar pretzel - 5* this is a sausage roll pretzel and the flavor is out of this world! It had the jalapenos bite that I feel is being forgotten as jalapenos get less and less spicy. I'd definitely get this again. Garlic and herb pretzel - 3* standard pretzel, nothing amazing especially after the jalapeno cheddar pretzel. Pepperoni pretzel - 3* lacking in pepperoni proportionately to how much cheese and pretzel is involved. This was another roll version of the pretzel. Cinnamon sugar pretzel - 4.5* it's hard to mess up cinnamon sugar. I wish the pretzel was a bit thicker but it was still delicious! Fried chicken (4 piece set) - 4* this came with a wing, breast, thigh, and leg. It was pretty good! read more

Not all the stalls are on Yelp, so this is specifically for King's BBQ which is the fried chicken counter. This is usually the longest line at the market, mainly because the smell of fried chicken hits you as soon as you walk in the door. It's good (not great), fairly priced, and freshly made. I got an 8 piece mix and was disappointed to get the 2 smallest thighs in the bag (both only had 1 bone and not 2). Don't think they brine the chicken, all of the seasoning is only in the skin. We always get the fried chicken, the pretzels, donuts, the salad section is also great. I also get butter and cream cheese here. The price is generally slightly on the higher side, but I think the experience and quality of the food makes it worth it. Everyone that works there are super friendly as well. Amish marketplace to check out whenever you're in the area, but probably not someplace you'd go out of your way for. There are multiple vendors organized in different categories (grocery, hot food bar, butcher, candy & dried fruit, dairy, doughnuts, pretzels, bakery, home furnishings, and a restaurant). You'd want to have an appetite when you come here for the fresh doughnuts and pretzels made on site. You can probably make a full circuit of the market in 5 minutes if you hurry through, but you wouldn't want to! I spent around 30 minutes here. The vendors are separate from each other, and there is not a one-stop checkout, which I learned when I tried to buy my eggnog, oats, bbq sauce, etc. from the bakery check-out (which is close to the entrance/exit), whoops. That meant I had to go back to the individual vendors where I picked up the items to make my purchases, so don't let that happen to you! I thought that was a bit of a hassle. There are rolling baskets or small shopping carts (with baskets) so you can load up your purchases. No cart return in the shopping plaza parking lot, so bring them back on your own. I appreciated that all of the vendors accept credit cards, even if it was a $3.25 purchase for a delicious and warm cinnamon sugar pretzel. PS- The blueberry fritter was also amazing! read more

Thursday 1/18/2024 I've always held Germantown Dutch market in high regard but after trying more of the Dutch market locations in Maryland (like Annapolis, Laurel, and upper Marlboro) my opinion has changed. If I was ranking all of the Maryland Dutch markets I've been to I would say: first Annapolis, second Laurel, third Germantown, and lastly upper Marlboro. I think Germantown Dutch market definitely excels in theirs pretzels & logs, their wings & wedges from kings bbq pit, and their wonderful carrot cake. My favorite items: carrot cake, carrot bread, cinnamon raisin pretzel, ham and cheese log, bbq wings, seasoned wings, ribs, and the potato wedges. The donuts are solid but their bakery in general doesn't really come close to the Annapolis one or the Laurel one. Also The ice cream is pretty mediocre, the fudge is decent, and the juices are okay for the most part. Overall, I still really like Germantown Dutch market but it's just not as good as Annapolis or Laurel and that's completely fine. read more

Lancaster County Dutch Market has become one of my favorite places for brunch. The Dutch Family restaurant food is delicious, with generous portion sizes that are perfect for sharing or taking home. The waffle topped with fresh fruit was especially amazing--definitely a must-try! While I was not a fan of the hot chocolate (it was a bit too watery for my taste), I recommend checking out the store at the front right side of the market when you enter. I have not tried their drinks yet, but they might have better options. It is a great place to bring friends, enjoy a hearty meal, and explore everything else the market has to offer. I don't understand how I have lived in Maryland for most of my life but have never visited the Dutch market but I'm so glad I was able to finally go! For Black Friday, they were giving the first 50 people in line $10. I was not there at opening so I didn't get it but my friends did, and using that discount was extremely easy. They were also giving out free donuts and coffee, which were delicious. At the cafe, I purchased a waffle which was not only affordable ($12) but it was absolutely huge! All the portions were big and we ate about half of everything and were able to get to go boxes to take home. In addition to offering a range of baked goods, fresh cuts of meat, preservatives, all from the Amish people, they are also very well known for their pretzels. I got a pretzel with sausage and cheese and a sour cream and onion pretzel, both were fresh and delicious. I will definitely return to try more things! read more

What a special place! I loved pretty much everything I got here. My favorite was Lapp's Soft Pretzels, especially the sausage and cooper pretzel log! Soft and fluffy dough filled with yummy sausage and melty, gooey cheese. So good. Their cheese sauce was also amazing. I also tried King's Barbecue Pit - I loved their ribs! So tender and falls right off the bone. Their seasoned wings were tasty, too. Beiler's Doughnuts were wonderful - their caramel apple donut was so good! Moist donut filled with a delicious apple pie filling and smothered in sweet caramel/icing. Lapp's Candies offers a wide variety of sweets and confections. I liked the chocolate covered pretzels, but the white chocolate-based fudges were a tad too sweet for me. The fudge had nice, soft and creamy texture, though! Highly recommend this cute market! So fun and the service from the vendors was great. So many tasty food options to choose from! Besides food, they also have a section with handmade furniture which looked beautiful. This place is a gem! My husband and I stopped by on a Saturday around lunch time and the place was pretty packed. Although the lines are long, they move pretty quickly so don't let that deter you from waiting. The food is delicious and fresh. Highly recommend the fried chicken and baby back ribs at King's BBQ. We got the platters which came with potato wedges, a side of coleslaw, a pickle and a soft dinner roll. The portions were pretty big but the food was so good that we just finished everything. We also got a half dozen donuts from Beiler's. They have some great fall flavors--pumpkin, apple, salted caramel--but our favorite is the maple bacon. We used to live in Philly and go to the one at Reading Terminal Market, so we're glad we have one close by to us here! We also got the pretzel rolls but we were too full to eat them so we're saving them for later :) Also, there isn't really a place to eat inside (except for the restaurant) so if you don't want to wait to eat your food like us, highly recommend just eating in your car :) read more

I get excited when Thursday is coming and it's almost the weekend... because the Amish market is open! I live ~45 minutes away from Germantown, but I stop by whenever I can - mainly for their freshly made soft pretzels. These are the best, at the first stand when you walk in. I usually go at the last minute, and they still have a few left - but I'd recommend going earlier if possible when they have more options at all the stalls! My dad's favorite is the apple bread at the bakery to the left of the entrance when you walk in. Their cake slices are also pretty good - I'd always get the double chocolate at that same bakery. I have yet to try the meat and prepared food, ice cream, and sit-down restaurant... definitely check out the market if you get the chance, and get yourself a pretzel! read more

This is my heaven and I come here at least twice a month. The storefront is located in a small strip mall and parking can get limited during busy hours. There's a couple of different businesses inside that cater toward fresh vegetable groceries, cheeses, food, furniture, fresh meat, baked goods, candies, and restaurants! I haven't gone to all of them so this review is only for three places: Mom's pantry is my go to for all salads and desserts! I recommend the home style chicken salad , tuna salad, banana pudding, ice cream pudding, eclair pudding, Philly potato salad and the Amish macaroni salad. You honestly can't go wrong with anything there and the service is always superb. They take cash and credit cards. I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH. I always stop by here or just make a trip for this place alone. Lapp's Soft Pretzels have amazing soft pretzels! I recommend trying the cinnamon sugar and sour cream pretzels. Additionally, the Cooper sausage was also perfect but wasn't a fan of the other types like the pepperoni and cheese. This place also takes both cash and credit. Beiler's Doughnuts sells a variety of wonderful goods! However I've only tried their apple pies which warm up beautifully in the oven and taste pretty good! The chicken isn't a breaded chicken but it's lightly seasoned and comes with either bbq or hot sauce. I opted for a platter which came with your choice of coleslaw or pickled cabbage, a bun, and potato wedges which were basically an entire potato. It's a nice change from American chain fried chicken which is heavy on breading or saucy like Korean fried chicken. This place also accepts cash or credit. This is a perfect local Amish market similar to the Philly Reading Terminal. I started with the pretzels, I got one with roast beef and the other with sausage and jalapeños. The roast beef one was better. I also stood in line for the fried chicken I bought the 8 piece option and got a few potatoes, which the boys ate up the minute I got home. I also picked up a carrot cake 1/2 sheet and one of the chocolate chip whoopie cookie, that we have been fighting over (playfully) it's so good!
