My friend and I just needed some melamine for a quick kitchen shelving project and between us we managed to figure out a way of getting all the pieces required out of a single board. Deducted one star due to no online store or catalogue. Service here is pretty friendly. There is no browsing due to COVID-19 precautions. This was actually the first hardware store where I encountered this as all the chains, even smaller ones, let you browse. They definitely take the pandemic seriously as on top of the no browsing, they have a very fancy system with a light signal telling you when you can come inside where staff will ask you what you want ring you up and then have someone bring your purchase out to your car. It's a pretty effixient efficient system. They also carry sand topping mix, which is sold out pretty much everywhere else in Vancouver. Prices are competitive, not cheap but not expensive. As an independent business, they have a convenient location in kitsilano that is a good alternative to big box stores. The parking lot is small, but does the job. read more

Best lumber store in the whole galaxy. I kid you not! I've actually seen aliens in this store from Alpha Centuri. They were fairly well disguised, but I saw through their careful terrestrial costumes. I chatted with them for a while, and when they dropped their guard they admitted that their planet had no WD40. I needed a couple of kitchen shelves cut -- went first to Home Depot, then to another Home Depot, lastly to Lowe's. All their saws were broken and not expected to be fixed any time soon. I returned home discouraged, after having spent nearly 2 hours driving all over the city emptying my gas tank. A friend suggested Coe. Why had I not thought of this myself?! The following day I zipped over there. Easy parking. Immediate, friendly service. 2 shelves cut quickly and they even had in stock the 8 cupboard pins I needed. I was asked to drive my car to the garage door, where someone brought the shelves out and put them in my trunk. A cookie for my dog. I am very impressed!! I will be returning. Having taken many a trip to the lumber yard with my Dad when I was young, I'm pretty at home in a hardware store. Coe Lumber is nothing special. They do try to cover quite a few bases and their lumber yard is pretty extensive considering it's smack-dab in the middle of urban West Broadway. I've successfully purchased paint, rebar, wood, scrapers, sand-paper, and the usual screws and nails here. When I priced out a lumber project I was really surprised at the high cost, although I haven't purchased enough lumber to know if it was out-of-line or not. The customer service has always been great, and I've never been treated poorly here. I also hugely appreciated it when they let me switch up some blackboard paint I'd purchased and then lost the receipt for. I guess Coe Lumber really only loses a star because I've often dropped by on a Sunday to find them closed. Yeah, I know they close at 4:30 now, but there's nothing like a looming Monday to inspire some Sunday evening motivation in me! A 6pm close would change my world. read more

I was recommended this place by a friend of mine as I try and support the non commercial lumber places. This was the only place when I called that had the Battery for fan transmitter that I needed. They were also super polite on the phone. In store that customer service was even better as they were patient and more than willing to go over some recommendations with me. Price is market value.
