Leona General Store - I got the 14OZ Ribeye with the red potato mashers and a roll.

Never expected myself to drive two hours for some ribeye steak, but it was worth the experience. We…read morerandomly scrolled on YouTube and watched someone rated this THE BEST in Texas so we had to check it out. What makes this place unique is that they use charcoal, have make their own rub, you can order as many ounces up to 32oz I believe, and they only sell ribeye steaks. The place is called the general store because that's what it used to be when first started doing business in the 1980s but later expanded and converted into a steakhouse. We got there at 4pm and there was a little bit of a line already. The restaurant is only open three days a week each day from 5:30 to 9. On Thursday they have fried catfish and Friday and Saturday they sell only steak. The minimum order starts at 10oz and each ounce increment is a little bit extra charge. We ordered the 24 ounce to be shared between the two of us total is about $70 and we still have some leftover. The charcoal flavor was not overpowering, but the seasoning of the steak was perfectly balanced. Usually, I eat my steak with extra pepper or chimichurri, but this one I was able to eat without any extra seasoning. The surface of the steak look heavily seared but the medium interior was really juicy and succulent. I could taste more char on the edge pieces. After the steak we headed to their second shop next door for some malt shake. I got the cookies n creame flavor, it was milky and not overly sweet like any other milkshakes. And the malt flavor lingers on the tongue after each sip. I was debating to get another one but chocolate flavor but I was too full. Service there overall was very welcoming, and dining area is really big, the interior feels like an old western cabin but very clean and spacious. Great for family gatherings too. They also have a BYOB offer for people who love some good sips along with the smokey steak.

Then the garlic mash potatoes and PERFECTLY cooked 10 oz sirloin came out. The steaks were cooked exactly to order. They had a pristine flavor, and the meat just melted in my mouth. The yeast roll looked like a roll but it was pretty heavenly too, especially with the steak drippings. Our server was super sweet and helpful! And the quaint "general store" is for locals and visitors alike!! Awesome steak night --perfect for a date night! Pass on dessert! Stick with best stuff! Pecan cobbler and peach cobbler were overly sweet! But they did come with a scoop Of vanilla ice cream on top!

I drove out here specifically to redeem a free classic cakeball or signature truffle using their…read morerewards program. I don't come often because parking is always a nightmare, and tonight was no exception. When I showed them the app, the staff seemed confused on how to do a redemption. So they had to call the owner for help. The owner apparently told them not to honor the redemption because they were in the process of switching rewards program platforms, and what used to be a 50‑point reward was going to be a 300‑point reward. The staff said my points would transfer eventually, but I only will have 63 -- not enough under the new system. Hey, I'm no entrepreneur. But I am a customer who eats out all the time. And to me this is a textbook example of an owner who doesn't get customer service. I drove all the way there, dealt with the parking, and came specifically to redeem a reward that still showed as valid in their app. It's not my fault their system hadn't switched over yet. These cakeball and truffle treats are only the size of a donut hole. It's not one of their higher end desserts. The obvious right move would've been to honor the reward and give the customer the treat. But nope. They chose the stingy route instead. And with that one decision, they lost another customer. Congrats and enjoy your cakeballs.

I even let me frugal meter stay off so I can, on occasion, let this place make my tongue happy. I've passed this place without noticing it many times since I moved to Livingston. I decided to see what was so sweet to eat with their ice. First of all, some sweet lady greeted me was the cutest smile when I walked inside. I noticed tables to eat and play games immediately to my left. The sweet lady explained she was the mother of the owner, and was helping him run the store today. Without making my review extra long: They give discounts to veterans. They make all flavors in house. This is a dairy free dessert (unless you ask for condensed milk on your product), so you do not have to worry about gut distress. Sometimes dairy will turn your colon to Louis Armstrong's trumpet! This is Gelato, and your tongue will be happy that you tried it. They made certain to distinguish themselves from trying to be some knock off of a snowball stand. They have many toppings and flavored creations made in house. Overall, you have to try this place. I only had strawberry, but it was light, refreshing, and favorable. I actually had strawberry seeds in my cool treat. I'm looking forward to trying many more flavors. The staff will guide you in the right direction of what it is you're desiring for that day.

Cute place for a sweet treat, service is always with a smile, treats are always good.read more
