I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled…read more When my flight was originally scheduled for 2:00 p.m., I contacted your team months in advance to ask if it could be moved to an earlier flight because I had to work that day. I was told the only other option was a 5:00 a.m. departure. As a broke college student, that wasn't realistic because there would be no shuttle service available, meaning I would have had to pay for transportation to the airport out of pocket. Because of that, I kept my afternoon flight. I later found out that several of my peers, who were booked through the same company and traveling to the exact same destination, were placed on earlier flights throughout the day. When I checked, those flights still had available seats. I even called the day of travel and was told I could switch to an earlier flight, but only if I paid the change fee myself. What is most frustrating is that I asked about this months ago. Had I been given accurate information at that time, this issue could have been resolved. Instead, I was told there were no other options, which was simply not true. I planned around the information I was given, only to find out later that earlier flights were available all along. I feel like I was misled, and I am very disappointed with the lack of transparency and customer service throughout this process. This situation could have been avoided with honest communication, and I hope it is addressed so other travelers do not have the same experience.

I've been lucky enough to attend two of their programs, one 6 week summer course in high school, and one gap year semester before beginning college. "Attend" isn't even the right word; being a part of a Dragon's course is a full wake-up call to all your senses, a hands-on adventure that teaches students to engage deeply in the foreign world around them, and reflect on their own personal growth throughout the course. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think back to my experiences abroad with Dragons, and how these courses continue to affect me. At school, I am in a number of leadership positions that require skills that I picked up through Dragons- communication skills, learning how to give and receive feedback, navigating my needs with the needs of a group, responding sensitively to a completely different way of life and set of values, and so much more. Dragon's taught me to always look for ways to raise the bar- to constantly question if I am living a life that is aligned with my values, if I am taking full advantage of all the opportunities around me. This skill couldn't be more valuable in a college setting, and I started college after 3 months in Indonesia with Dragons ready to get the most of my 4 years. There are many qualities of a Dragon's trip that makes it stand out from other programs, but in particular the staff at Where There Be Dragons are some of the most incredible and inspirational people I have ever met. My instructor team on both trips that I participated in remain some of my greatest heroes. Years after our trip, they still check in with me and remember specific goals that I was working on during our course. Having the support of adults who were so invested in my personal experience and how to help me make the most of it, every single day of the trip, was amazing. My mom is the perfect archetype of an over-caring and nervous parent, so the fact that she let me go on not one but two trips to a foreign country says a lot about this organization. If you are looking for a few weeks of coasting on bus tour, or visiting museums apathetically, or chilling on a beach for 6 weeks, don't choose Dragons. If you are ready for an all-consuming adventure that will challenge you, inspire you to raise your awareness of self and the world, find yourself living with homestay families so drastically different than yours but so willing to open their way of life to you, to make 15 of the best friends you've ever had, and to come home and be shocked with how much there is to love in your life, then sign up for any course with Where There Be Dragons. Last fall, I was a student on the Where There Be Dragons Semester course in Indonesia. I hadn't…read moreplanned on taking time off between High School and College, but my ED school (Middlebury College) accepted me with a gap semester. The idea terrified me, challenged me, and ultimately has been an incredible gift. The course with Dragons changed my life. One of the most incredible parts of Dragons courses are the instructors. Each program is made up of twelve students and a minimum of three instructors, at least one of whom is native to the country where the course is based. The instructors are chosen because of their experiences as travelers, teachers, and citizens of the world, and each came to the program with a wealth of experience in human rights, conservation, academics, and cultural building. All were wonderful, passionate people with a will to open our minds, widen our knowledge of this world, and to grow with us as we experienced the consciousness-expanding wonder of deep, informed travel. Whether the experience is four weeks or three months, being immersed in a new culture can be immensely challenging. It is so important to have quality mentorship in times of intense growth. Dragons recognizes this, and thus the instructors are people who can hold space for this kind of transformative opportunity. I found that, beyond being more than qualified to inform us on human rights issues, the environment, cultural tendencies in the developing and western world, and many more intellectual pursuits, the instructors were there to support us mentally and emotionally. They guided us, challenging us when necessary, but always there for us. They took care of us, but they also helped us learn to take care of ourselves. Another amazing thing about Dragons is the relationship they build with local communities. Everywhere we went Dragons sought to create a sustainable friendship that benefits students and locals equally. This certainly deepens the student experience as it opens up doors for friendships and mentorships. A homestay family that trusts Dragons as an organization will be more likely to get excited about sharing their world with a student. I will never forget the connections I made with parents, children, and friends as we traveled through Indonesia. In each community we studied the culture (religion(s), history, customs, political dynamics, and role of the western world in all of this), environment (conservation issues facing communities, the impact of these on their everyday lives, changes being made going forward, and our roles in these issues), and community (what are the health care and educational systems, how far away is the nearest hospital, how and what language do the children learn to read). We studied all of this through community interaction: we'd sit in on community gatherings, organize talks with the village head, midwife, shaman, workers, and professors, and we'd ask them to tell us about their lives and their world. We also set aside time to process with the group, to learn how best to handle the intensity of our experiences. The course had a great balance of time spent learning with the group and time spent exploring, hanging out, and integrating our experiences into a newfound awareness of self and the world. Each day we would come together for at least two hours to check in with everyone, take care of medical needs, and rediscover solidarity with our peers. When we needed it we would always make time to go snorkeling in the nearby coral reef, explore the regional volcano, sing songs around a bonfire, have a dance party, drink a coconut, and decompress. I know that this trip changed my life. On my own, I never could have made it to such remote and beautiful places, experienced so much depth in new cultures, made such close friendships, and internalized my experience as lasting inspiration. I have been blown away by the integrity and values exhibited by all the staff at Dragons, and I am so incredibly grateful to have been their student. Each student faced many challenges on this program: we went into the unknown and fought against our comfort zones. We pushed into growth and found that, as we were challenged, new worlds started to open up to us. New perspectives appeared, deeper empathy was felt, greater integrity was realized, and we were suddenly more mature, more moral, more in touch with our inner selves, and more sensitive to the lives of those around us in this vast, unpredictable, beautiful world. Having had this experience, I will never be able to live without thinking of myself in service to my community. I can't go back: I will always work harder in my friendships, find ways to explore, adventure, and deepen, and remember that I am a citizen of the world. I wish that more of my friends would do Dragons programs. I have complete faith they would find their minds and souls expanded by it, just as I have.

Before the…read moretrip even started, I should've known they were unprofessional and money-hungry when Teri Weiss, the owner of Power Places Tours, tried to get extra money from me for a single room that I didn't ask for. Our group was an odd number for double occupancy and she tried to charge me for an extra $2000. All to which I definitely did not pay. Teri sneaks in an extra $80 per person right before the trip for WiFi and non-alcoholic drinks while we were on the boat on the Nile. Not understanding why this wouldn't be included in the price. Unreal for a $7000 ticket price excluding flights to Egypt!!! Also, a day or two before we were all flying we finally received our tags for our suitcases and getting asked about sending them a photo of our passport. Before the trip even started I saw poor-planning. But from the first full day together with her collaborator and "Egyptologist" Emil Shaker, I knew this was going to be a bazaar trip. Walking around with this self-proclaimed "crazy" man (yes he would call himself that), he did nothing short of yelling and constantly raising his voice at our well-traveled ADULT group like a bunch of children. Daily hearing from him in a harsh tone to stay quiet, come closer to him, telling us he didn't have to be there and that he could be elsewhere, literally saying he likes to control people, bullying other tour groups to move, and then later talking about beastiality with donkeys constantly, and personally talking about me and my fiance and "ideas" he had about our private time together...it was truly unbelievable!!! I could go on. All to which he would completely yell at Teri, and she would cower to his every word. Any time I asked Teri a question she would default to Emily to answer. Teri acts like she hasn't done this before, like it was her first time. Oooing and awwwing at everything Emil says. It was all so uncomfortable to observe. We had some early times to temples without the crowds, and private tour to the grand pyramid and The Sphinx in the middle of the night, which were incredible, but Emil made it out like we owed him his life. I personally was told by him twice to "say thank you". On other notes. the food on the boat was tasteless 75% of the time, the hotel in Cairo was supposedly 5-star and didn't look it. Teri overcharges an insane amount on the car to and from the airport. Get an uber! Overall, after the trip I find myself barely talking about these sacred temples, but more about the abusive and inexcusable energy emitted from Emil and the unprofessional way Teri runs her business. As a business owner in New York City of almost two decades, this excursion was one of the most unprofessionally run programs lacking fully in customer service and tact. Again, DO NOT go on the trip with these people to Egypt or anywhere else in the world!

Bikes are in excellent condition with plenty of power for the many uphill inclines. Our 2.5 hour e-bike tour took us through much of Boulder countryside, downtown, CU, and along beautiful streams. The guide (Tanner) pointed out interesting places with history facts. We even stopped by the Mork-n-Mindy TV house :) There is option for a bathroom stop if needed on the route. You can pretty much use the power assist the whole time and not needing to physically pedal. We felt safe the whole experience and the e-bike tour is great for individual, families or groups. We were referred to Cohica by our daughter, who had planned her honeymoon trip through Italy with Megan and Ryan. Our daughter raved about how smoothly her travels went and how she enjoyed the hotels and activities. My wife and I had our 40th anniversary coming up and had often talked about visiting Italy, so we thought "There is no shame in learning from our children" and contacted Cohica. With relatively short notice Cohica put together a plan for the places we wanted to visit: Milan-Florence-Chianti-Venice-Lake Como. The set of hotels selected were spot-on for our preferences: small, modestly priced but tasteful and well-maintained, conveniently located, quiet, with helpful staff. Our room in Chianti overlooked an immaculately maintained garden and a gorgeous view of Tuscany, I felt like visiting royalty. The hotel in Florence had a restaurant which overlooks a courtyard with a freshmarket by day, and outdoor dining for several trendy restaurants by night. Megan and Ryan were very responsive. E-mails and text msgs are answered promptly through the day. They arranged all the details of travel - private cars, trains, and water taxis (Venice). Sure, we could have done this on our own, slowly, in English, 'the day of...', as needed, but we would have no idea which private car service is reliable, how to persuade a water taxi to wait at the Venice train station at the right time, and so on. We would not have chosen the 'Club Car' for the cross-country Italo train rides, but that would have been a mistake of frugality on our part. The guides were excellent. The optional group activities suggested all proved very enjoyable - even though I am not by nature a fan of group activities - such as a food tour in Florence, a visit to a winery, an Italian cooking class (before the trip I had not imagined that I could make pasta by hand), and a tour of one of the Murano glass factories. This is my second review of Cohica, as I have had the pleasure of working with Megan and Ryan for two very different, and very amazing, trips! Megan and Ryan designed a thoughtful and well balanced trip for my mother and I. We had limited time (a week), and lofty goals to see Prague and Vienna. They took the time to really listen to what we were interested in, what we enjoyed in prior travels, and what was a priority for both of us. In no time at all, they had curated 7 days that were awe-inspiring. We had phenomenal local guides who provided true insights into their culture and history, lovely boutique hotels, and the right amount of time to just *be* in the cities. We have recommended Cohica to friends and family - although, we would rather keep them our secret travel weapon! Thank you for helping to create so many fantastic memories for my family! read more

Our 3 generation family of 10 just returned from a wonderful trip to South Korea, first time for all of us. Megan and Ryan at Cohica Travel were highly instrumental in creating a custom trip which built memories for a lifetime!!! Thanks to Ryan and Megan, all travel and transportation was smooth, hotel choices were awesome, choice of tours and guides was both informative and fun for all, and we had a great blend of excursions and free time. My experience working with Megan and Ryan was fantastic from start to finish. I will never book another significant trip again without working with Cohica. I received very good communication throughout the experience. They tailored our two week trip to Portugal and Italy to fit the needs and wants of my family of five. I love the way that they present trip options to chose from, and then organize all the information you need for the trip, making it extremely easy to access. They hit it out of the park with hotels, restaurants and activities, giving me, my husband and our three teenagers the trip of a lifetime. My husband and I used Cohica to plan our Trip to Belize this year. We had no idea where to start, and they worked with us to build exactly what we were looking for. They listened to everything that we wanted (and didn't want), and they were in constant communication with us throughout the process. When we had a problem at the hotel, we sent an email to Steve and shortly after the manager of the resort found us on the beach and made everything right. Very impressive whatever he said to them because they immediately did everything they could to make the stay better. At the top of us list of recommendations were the Palofitos, over the water bungalows. Not cheap but incredible service, luxury and beauty. We felt so happy and comfortable. I had learned about the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (kiliporters.org), and it was important to work with a travel agent that participated in this program, and AWR does. They were so phenomenal in the organizing and execution of that trip! We had 4 travelers with 3 different itineraries, and AWR put together trips for all of us that were outstanding! This trip far exceeded our expectations and was executed flawlessly! This year, a friend came back from trekking with gorillas in Rwanda and recommended it to us. We contacted his travel agent, and that agent put together an itinerary that we would never have afforded, and it only let us trek with gorillas. Because we were so impressed with AWR previously, I checked their website to see what they had to offer. We were able to trek with both gorillas and chimps in Uganda as well as tour various places in South Africa and Victoria Falls in Zambia, all for FAR cheaper than the proposed trip to Rwanda. We just got back from our Uganda/South Africa/Zambia adventure, and it was sensational! The accommodations were amazing! The adventures were out of this world! AWR was so great in helping us rearrange things at the last minute due to weather-related issues. I can't recommend AWR higher!

It was a total zoo and amidst the ongoing renovation, which she forgot to mention, elevators were out and we had to smash into one elevator the whole time like sardines. Not to mention thtat she booked us at the back of the plane for a 5 hour trip smelling disgusting bathroom smell. After spending $1500 on this trip, willl never use her or the stupid expensive resort she put us in. Not even an email afterward to check in to see if we enjoyed it. She is awful!
