Giulia made me feel like I was her only client, while also going above and beyond to create an unforgettable experience for my parents. Because of their needs, certain accommodations were essential, and I was unfamiliar with how accessibility works in other countries--things like transportation, baggage assistance, private vehicles, and elevator access. Giulia handled every single detail flawlessly. From coordinating transportation between hotels to selecting ideal locations, arranging private tours, and ensuring smooth luggage handling, nothing was overlooked. We began planning our trip in August. The communication between me and the local expert was excellent. He considered our dreams and set up our trip. We tweaked several of the items and finalized on a Itinerary. Because our flight back home was at 9am, we decided to add an additional day to the trip and stay at a hotel near the San Jose airport (with an airport shuttle). Since we didn't need to arrive in San Jose at a specific time and since the itinerary stated that (direct quote) "With private transfers, pick-up times are flexible, so you can set the departure time whenever you like" we requested a 5pm pickup and planned a private excursion for that afternoon. We were then informed "5.00 pm is a bit late, especially because we do not recommend taking transfers in the evening hours, but let me double-check with operations." I let our planner know that we can cancel our excursion, but we needed to know. A few days later we were informed that our pickup time for the transfer back to San Jose was approved. The first few days of our trip was good. The weather didn't cooperate and our hotel in Monteverde lost power for 14 hours. They did an awesome job in spite of the issues. The main issues with the trip occurred after arriving in Manuel Antonio. Our first tour was cancelled at the last minute. This meant we didn't have time to set up another tour. On our last day, we had our independent kayak tour. When we returned to the hotel, we had enough time for a cold shower and to pick up something to tide us until we arrived in San Jose. The transport scheduled never arrived. No one answered the emergency line and the transport company had no record of the pickup. After about 45 minutes, I send a message through the trip chat. We were finally contacted by someone from the local travel agency and was told the transfer was not organized. We were finally picked up about 90 minutes after we were supposed to be. We requested compensation for the final transfer but were told "we provided the service even though it was outside the recommended travel hours, so unfortunately, compensation does not apply in this case". It seems though advertised that "pick-up times are flexible, so you can set the departure time whenever you like" this is not true. It was also extremely stressful not to be able to contact someone in case of an emergency. Because of the issues we had our final two days, I would not recommend KimKim. The tour as planned fit our needs, but the cancellation of one tour, the failure to set up the transport for the final day and the fact WE COULDN'T REACH ANYONE on the Emergency line means I wouldn't trust relying on this company. read more

My wife and I planned and completed a trip to Japan (our first trip there ever) - specifically Okinawa and Tokyo - last September to see family stationed there. We came across Kimkim Travel in our research, and then reached out to determine what Kimkim can provide us. We ended up speaking with Leny who lives in Japan. Leny was an excellent resource for us and provided us with a wealth of information on all aspect of visiting Japan. We had multiple conversations with him back and forth, and although we did not ultimately use Kimkim travel, Leny's guidance and suggestions were well-received and appreciated. Since most of our two week stay was concentrated in Okinawa, we were able to make those arrangements ourselves. AVOID Will waste your time and their budget and time expectations for any trip to Europe are egregious. AVOID Though reputable, Kim Kim has now gone upscale. They are seeking $800-1000 per day for a trip to Italy, even if you request a midrange hotel. They take a week to get back to you, and then basically say, we don't want your business, claiming that the end of Sept and early Oct is peak season. Basically Kim Kim now is looking for naive luxury travelers that want to get egregiously over charged. Kim Kim was a good idea once, but it is not a good idea to use them in the developed world, especially it would seem to Italy or Europe. Maybe they are more reasonable in the third world. read more

Needed a company who could sort airport transfers for a group of eight and all of our gear to and from Sapporo while we acclimated and then return to to the airport to pick up our rental cars. I was forced by my driver to leave a review on kimkim trip advisor for my Morocco trip. And when I didn't leave a glowing review he pressured me to change it. The driver is not a tour guide and wasn't able to give us any info on places we passed by nor was he able to give us any recommendation for food place. We only got a guide when we had those short guided experience and every guide we got wanted a tip even if they weren't very good. Kimkim also didn't advise me that one of the cities we went to is under construction and sold me a tour there. There was a spot where they sold me a 2 hours sand dune ride but I was told we were only booked for 1 hr when we got there. The horse ride they set me up with was with a provider that treated their horse absolutely terribly. All their horses are so tired and sick. The rooms they put me in were also very mediocre and I wasn't given option to upgrade the room type. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

We had a wonderful experience in Finland for nine days largely because of the high quality planning and expertise from Moonika our agent through KimKim. We saw the northern lights, learned how to mush huskies ( seriously), visited a reindeer farm, and went ice fishing and net fishing. and we spent 3 days in Helsinki which is a great city. Review I booked a trip for our family (two daughters, ages 9 and 11) and husband to Japan. I used KimKim because I wanted to maximize our limited time and make the trip smoother with our girls. Over-all we had a fantastic trip and experienced the culture. We loved many of the recs the agent made: the onsen (3 nights! Worth it), which felt authentic, the Sumo experience, visiting the shrines and temples. We could have passed on visiting Akihabara area (overstimulating) and we added the Mpig cafe and TeamLabs (both shouldn't be missed and so fun w kids) on our own. Despite a successful trip, my over-all rating of KimKim is poor: The massive mark-up (over 30%!) was not justified. Stupidly, I didn't double-check prices before booking and realized much later that there was an over 30% mark-up and general lack of attention to detail. Here are some examples: * Booking through the agent made things worse * We arrived in Tokyo at 9pm, tired and jet-lagged, and informed that our hotel was booked for 3 instead of 4 nights. The hotel was full, and the extra night couldn't easily be added on. Additionally, they had no locked storage area- presenting some logistical challenges and burden. I knew what happened: The original itinerary I booked had us in Tokyo for 3 nights; however, the agent overlooked a small detail- that Sumo was not offered on Sundays (something clearly stated on the website-a red flag then), resulting in a whole itinerary change, adding a night in Tokyo. Apparently, my name was misspelled, and the 3+1 nights were not linked. Regardless, it ended up working out- someone "cancelled", we kept the room, but it was stressful * The agent sent us to the wrong location for the sushi-making experience. The new site was several blocks away, and the Sushi place said that they emailed us about the change, but, having not made the booking myself, I was never informed. We ran to the new site and made it a few minutes late. * The agent sent us to the wrong location for the Samurai sword experience, and it wasn't booked long enough and was heavily overbooked (I think they made a mistake, as the staff looked stressed). This resulted in missing part of the experience. KimKim did refund us that portion of the experience without hesitation- they knew it was a screw up. * For the Sumo experience, they emailed us photos, but because I didn't make the reservation, the photos didn't get sent directly to me, and I had to request them from the agent to get them- not a huge deal, but not VIP. Not worth an extra 30%! * Luggage storage in Kyoto train station was like Hunger Games! We had to store our luggage for a day at the train station so we could make our tours and have time for lunch. I specifically asked the agent if it was easy to find lockers, knowing we had 5 pieces of luggage, and she reassured me they were readily available. Well, 30 minutes of frantically searching in the train station, we secured 5 lockers all apart from one another. Not a big deal, but certainly not worth 30% markup. * Our two guides were kind, patient, and prompt but they were average in knowledge. They knew the brochure information but did not offer any in-depth understanding of the areas. No one knew the best places to get food (my husband is vegetarian) or had that back-alley, in-the-know experience that exceptional guides have. Not worth the 30% markup. * Food recs were non-existent. The agent offered no specific food recommendations based on personal experience, nor did the guides. No one had firsthand knowledge of the restaurants in the heavily touristed areas we were in. The onsen has a very challenging menu as well - we braved it one morning with the Japanese breakfast, but it was so fishy and pickled, it was inedible to us (I normally am an adventurous eater, but this was too much!). The western breakfast was price-fixed with soupy scrambled eggs, weird cuts of meat... For some, this might be a luxury, but for most Western folks, especially those with kids, this is not worth the money. It would've been nice to have that firsthand information and have someone give us some recs of nearby restaurants that were open early (very few were open before 9 or 10 am in Arashiyama). Again, all issues we expect while travelling, but by using an agent with a huge markup, these details needed to be managed. Over-all, we had a wonderful trip but I would not book through KimKim again- If they are going to charge these prices, every small detail should be managed and they simply were not.... (and even then, 30+ % markup is inexcusable! I blame myself for being so gullible and not fact checking...) All of our tours/ experiences could have easily been booked through GetYourGuide or basic website searches- there was nothing special that KimKim offered that couldn't be done on your own. Don't make my mistake! Do your homework on pricing first. read more

1) There is absolutely no transparency in pricing. KimKim agents are intentionally vague about pricing. If you ask for an itemized list, they will feed you some BS about "not revealing their secrets to getting you deals" or something along those lines. Which is interesting because if you cancel an activity on your itinerary, the price of your trip remains the same. 2) Speaking of deals, nothing about KimKim is a "deal". You will pay at least DOUBLE the cost of what it would be if you researched & booked everything yourself. You have to pay extra fees and basically make a non-refundable payment to even get them to show you the planned-out itinerary. 3) KimKim claims "100% satisfaction guaranteed" (literally on the bottom of their website) and if you aren't satisfied they'll "work with you to make it right" but this is only lip service. KimKim cares about money, not customer satisfaction. Good luck getting any kind of refund; their Terms of Use states there are absolutely no refunds & basically everything you choose to do is at your own risk. 4) When things go wrong, you're SOL unless you wanna fork over even more money because KimKim is NOT transparent. Their itinerary shows pick-up at 9am? You may wait until 10:15am for the driver. Thought your between-activities travel would be privatized just for you? A 15-passenger van with 10 strangers inside picks you up instead. You may also show up to a hotel and realize it has stringent rules/regulations that will affect your stay - something that was not communicated to you beforehand. For a company that prides itself on transparency, there is a significant lack of it. I would avoid booking services through KimKim at all costs. It's a waste of money for a company that acts more like a scam, and boasts 6-star service yet doesn't bother to do what they claim they do. read more

We wanted to see the Snow Festival in Sapporo in Northern Japan and also Kyushu, the Southern most of the main Japanese Land masses. For such a diverse trip, KimKim made it easy. They took our wish list of things we wanted to see and do and they were able to make suggestions based on what was practical and doable. We highly recommend kimkim. Well worth the money. We had an issue with one of our hotels. They immediately moved us to a different hotel and paid the difference. Even though we were outside of the cancellation window, it cost us nothing to get moved to a four star hotel from a three star hotel. They also have a representative in the time zone that you're in so you don't have any issues ever reaching someone if you have a problem. We really enjoyed the activities that they planned for us and they were super responsive and helpful through throughout the entire planning process and while we were in Norway.
