All in a nice fenced in garden area so no one will steal the veggies that you've grown. They've also recently upgraded the land, building a new terrace structure that enabled more garden plots to be created. There are beautiful brick walkways leading to these new plots. I spent a day at a work day moving wood chips and helping do prep work around the garden. The community members are wonderful people. And they had a nice cookout at the end of the work day where we all gathered round and had a meal. If I lived closer to this garden I'd definitely want a plot here.

They are very well maintained. Also the community garden is a nice touch. A lot of youth and adult groups host events here. Parking is definitely available. Most from the area are familiar with it, and where it is, but to non locals it can be confusing to find. One problem though, is people come here at night to drink beers. I don't particularly find that appropriate at a park, especially one with kids and others going here. Yet that does happen, and I hope our public safety folks will charge all found here.

Vint Hill is located between Gainesville and Warrenton. It is an emerging destination for locals…read moreand visitors. Vint Hill is a historic place. The U.S. Army operated a cryptology school and an intelligence gathering station at the former sheep and cattle farm during World War II. After the war, the Army used Vint Hill for research and development. The Army discontinued use of the property in 1997. Vint Hill now is open to the public. It is a scenic spot that offers many things to do. For food and beverages, there currently is a brewery, a winery, speciality food shop, cafe serving lunch, and more... These places are all located close to the Cold War Museum. There is a public swimming pool open seasonally. The tiny base movie theater still shows movies. There is a popular dog park. There are a number of park areas that are great for jogging, walking, or just relaxing. At the edge of Vint Hill, is Lake Brittle where you can go fishing, or rent a boat (seasonally). There is also a snack bar here open seasonally. Unfortunately, the park areas and the lake both lack bathroom facilities beyond port-a-potties. There are a number of businesses located at Vint Hill and one church that I am aware of. A lot of land is available for development. I heard that an independent coffee shop is slated to open. That would be great. I only hope that development does not get out of hand and ruin the nature areas that exist here. There is already extensive housing on the backside of Vint Hill. Traffic is not a problem here at present. Fingers crossed that new development is not overwhelming and that no more trees are cut down. Here's why I gave it 5 stars: 1) It's literally right behind one of DC's best coffee shops- Compass Coffee. It's just a few blocks from two Metro Stations (Mt Vernon and Shaw). 2) It's in between two row houses giving it a true urban vibe with beautiful photo opportunities. 3) It's a true community garden because anyone who harvest gets a share of the crops (herbs, veggies, etc). 4) The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable teaching you a variety of herbs you've probably never heard of like lemon balm (It's amazing and would be good in an arugula salad). 5) They host events from outdoor movies to educational events and the public is free to have meetings on the benches in the garden or use their little public library within the garden. Next time you grab a mint cold brew from Compass Coffee, stroll by Marion Street Garden and enjoy nature!
