The rebirth of Chess Club in Stockton???
    John K.

Wow, how to describe this place? Is it a commune for the artistic community? Is it a coffee roastery? Is it a community workshop? Is it a completely refurbished music venue? How about all of the above and more! For the coffee shop part of the building it is absolutely a gem of a place to get a great brew and more. Snacks include scones, muffins, cookies and other breakfast items of high quality. Lunch items are available and everything looks to be locally sourced and fresh. The actual interior kind of invites you to walk around and take inventory of the visual candy like a set of old school lockers, a bingo board, old fashioned typewriter and a classic piano that probably weighs about 5 thousand pounds (just kidding, but it is mostly solid wood). If you see the owner or someone that can let you, take a chance to get a walking tour of the place as it is quite extensive and the overall vision is really exciting as Stockton needs a vibrant and cutting edge place like this. Cheers to Colab Coffee and The Well! Wait, are they one and the same...?

The cup felt light, took the lid off to find my large coffee only partially filled.

Hello! I LOVE your coffee and bagels, I've built you into my budget, I recommend your place to everyone because of the great atmosphere, your amazing coffee (PS the tall guy with glasses makes them best) And your nice outside area! Every Friday I go 25 minutes out of my way to get my breakfast before I drive to Sonoma. Occasionally there are mistakes in my order- usually something minor like they make my drink ice instead of hot... I can live with that. However today I was disappointed when I picked up my order the coffee felt unusually ( though the coffee is never full) light I didn't say anything my hands were full so I didn't take the lid off right away. When I got to the car I did take the lid off...the cup was 1/3 empty. It's funny because just this morning I was wishing you offered an extra large coffee lol . Then I opened up the box for the bagel... I'm not sure what happened because the place was completely empty when I walked in I mean nobody waiting in line just a few people sitting inside anyways I have attached pictures. Sorry for the complaint Michelle Also one time I ordered an iced coffee the girl hands me the cup with chunks of mild swirling around and said- I THINK ITS OK! as per usual I just smiled and walked away- threw the coffee away at work. I truly hate to complain, but am frustrated that I have not received any response ‍ I'm giving a low rating so you will hopefully see- I have messaged you on Instagram, and sent email to the address linked from the website.

Great place to unwind with friends or business.

I am IN love with this place!! First off the two ladies usually there in the A.M. are the BEST! Second the pastries are addicting!!! Those scones tho!! And the coffee is so smooth and delish. I get hazelnut latte hot or iced both so addicting!! So happy to have stumbled on this spot. The building is so quaint. Lots of spots to cozy up and sip and read or scroll!

Hey, and Yea'h to Lockout Studios, for providing dedicated workspace for art. Being in a space that…read moreis by definition, deemed 'Caution: Artist Workzone Up Ahead' is liberating. My progress had stalled working at home. Vocal warmups, ear training, time-in for composition, experimenting at volume, etc. 'just never worked well' at home. Similarly, being 'out on an island' renting commercial space within earshot of contractors, accounting offices, chiropractic, etc - would inevitably result in me having to accommodate, rearrange schedules, set-up tear-down my gear, compromising... I don't feel alone and out numbered, but I also feel understood and respected when I and my art need some distance. Please, keep doing what you guys are doing because I have something to say, something to add to the state of the art. Thanks so much, Lockout Studios. Charles P

I moved in February 1st, excited to start my journey back to music…read more I knew I was going to miss a couple weeks, and ended up moving in late on February. The first night, I already could tell this was a waste of money. I was sandwiched between two loud producers, one of which a non-black rapper constantly saying the n word in his music. He also said it outside in the hall. (A white man) I am a lifelong musician, loud rehearsal neighbors aren't new to me- but what bothers me is that this studio is not actually a studio. They are office buildings. There is absolutely NO noise isolation and to top that off, the door I had was broken. After 5 min of my walls rumbling from both sides with absolutely no insulation to soften the blow, so loud my head was throbbing - I realized the lockout owners were likely cash grabbers with no passion for sound. Very different from Sac Rehearsal and the other one off El Camino where you at least get SOME LEVEL of isolation and professional attempts at noise reduction. On top of that- I was offered a tour with a measly $100 off my next room selection. When I attempted to reschedule the tour, their only available hours to do so were 10A-2:45P, Mon-Fri, which as you might expect - will not work for 90% of people who can afford rehearsal studios. When I finally was able to schedule a time, they canceled for a family emergency and rebooked for Monday the 24th, leaving me a measly 7 days of a potential rehearsal experience. When I brought this to their attention, they nastily retorted, "well you've had access to the space the whole time!" A space with no noise isolation that is entirely impossible to think in, let alone rehearse in. Save your money- even if you're a mile away like I am, it's better to go to House of Hits. Even Sac Rehearsal. The only benefit of this place is the "safe" location- but it's really built with no regards to musicians and the customer service is built equally as shitty.
