Cold Slring Bakery is easily one of the best bakeries in Central MN, if not the best. They do everything well, and do it with a smile every time. CSB isn't somewhere that is pushing the boundaries of baked goods, but they're the place that has been doing it for decades and knows what they're doing. Think items such as crispies, apple fritters, raised and cake doughnuts, decorated cookies, cakes, etc. If you're passing through Cold Spring, give it a try. It's not a secret how good it is, so get there early before everything sells out! read more

Amazing place! Wonderful people that work there, everybody's extremely friendly. How can you go wrong with the cold spring bakery?

I had ordered a baby shower cake and did a 1 hour session to create it. We had ordered a blush pink cake and had requested fondant but we were told it would be too expensive. We did clarify price wasn't an issue but then were told people do not like the taste of fondant. We did go a different frosting route. We emphasized that the cake would have to sit out a few hours before the shower and we were told that would be fine. For decoration we ordered a baby "blush" pink cake with baby blocks on the top. We want the blocks to say welcome baby Lynnea. We were given a hot pink cake and we were told it would need to be refrigerated. The top layer was super chunky as if the frosting was just slapped on. The blocks were not squares and instead of the words we had requested we were given rectangles with scribbled on shapes and numbers. The blocks were made of fondant, which we had requested a layer of the cake be made of, but then were told no. When I had called to share my concerns the cake manager Rachel told me to look at my receipt as this was what I had ordered. Overall I was disappointed in the cake I had ordered and the money I had spent trying to fix it. Most importantly I was disappointed in the lack of sympathy and the unwillingness to take any ownership in the outcome of the cake. This cake was almost $150, so an apology or an Acknowledgement of the errors would have been really nice. I did add images of the cake I created using flowers and baby blocks. read more

I visited the Cold Spring Bakery for the first time and it was a lovely visit! It's right in the heart of Cold Spring on Main Street and offers fresh baked goods daily (closed Sunday's). I browsed online before going in-store to see what their selection was, get a sense of what to expect. I learned quickly that the options on their website aren't necessarily the options they'll have when you're in their store. The website is more of a general overview of their offerings, but what's actually available, varies day to day. A wonderful employee helped me from behind the counter. She was very sweet and seemed to have all the knowledge about the bakery and their treats. I told her I'd never been before and she was both patient and accommodating as I made my choices. I decided to get their monster cookie bar (listed as monster cookie dough online) and ginger sandwich cookie. I was hoping to get their glazed twist donut, caramel roll, and double chocolate chunk muffin too, but unfortunately, they didn't have single ones in the case. The muffins were available as a 4-pack, and she told me they freeze well, but we don't have enough room in our freezer, so I couldn't purchase those this time. You can order different sized cakes as well. I also thought the St. Paddy's Day clover cookies kits were so cute, but didn't buy one myself. They currently have both St. Paddy's and Easter baked goods right now - perfect for families with little ones. They also have shelves of fresh bread for those who don't have a sweet tooth. I will be back in the future for some French bread. Both the bar and sandwich cookie were amazing. I ate the sandwich cookie on the day-of purchase. The cookies were chewy and the it tasted like Little Debbie's but way better - there's a lot of cream in the middle though, so that got to be a bit heavy toward the end. I ate the bar the next day and it was equally just as soft as it was when I first got it. Melts in your mouth and left me wishing I had an entire pan of it. read more

Ordered a Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting and every person said it was the best Carrot Cake they'd ever had. I agree! We had the Round cake which easily fed 10 people. Best bakery I've ever tried/ reviewed. Huge selection of food I mean seriously if you took all the food in here I bet it would fill up the whole MN state capitol. The food is SO fresh and amazing. I've been going to this bakery my entire life. I don't think I've ever had any donut or pastry that wasn't fantastic. Their Butter Cream is to die for. Their custard filled Long Johns are my all-time favorite pastry. They are always SO soft, and perfectly filled. I custom ordered cookies for a baby shower. I ordered simple baby blue frosting on a round sugar cookie with white lettering that said "oh boy". the frosting was deep royal blue and the white lettering was so light it was legible. The cookies themselves were dry and tasteless, not what I expected for$18/doz cookies. read more

Personally, I find the Cold Spring Bakery a bit overrated, but I'd still recommend them. Is it the best bakery? No. It's a good bakery, with a lot to choose from. There aren't many bakeries left, so it's your only choice in the area. If you go here on a weekend during the summer, be prepared to wait, sometimes up to 20 minutes. Everyone from the nearby Chain of Lakes... vacationers, camp-goers, resort people... comes here for their bakery goods. The prices are a tad bit high on some items when compared to other local bakeries. You'll find fresh donuts and bakery goods... cookies, brownies, bread, cakes, donuts, caramel rolls, eclairs. They have pretty much whatever you're looking for at a bakery. You'll find something to keep everyone happy - cake donuts, chocolate covered long johns with buttercream filling, glazed apple and blueberry pockets, raspberry bismarks, lemon filled bismarks, etc. They'll also make birthday and wedding cakes for you. I don't think you could buy anything bad at this bakery! My personal favorites are the mint brownies and the Potica danishes! This bakery is the first place I go when vacationing nearby. They will happily take orders to make sure you get what you want, although the next day! This is a bakery!!!! When my sister and I Googled what is MN known for- dessert bars came up. Well this little gem of a bakery nailed it. I bet they had 6 flavors of bars. Beautiful donuts. I got my wedding cake here. After searching for weeks throughout the Minneapolis and St Paul area I came across this bakery because I was looking through local wedding cake designing contests to see who won and the designers here did very well. Upon sampling the cake it was easily the best cake I'd eaten that didn't cost thousands of dollars. The filling was especially tasty. It was a big hit at the wedding. In fact the DJ came over and asked where the cake was from. He said he'd done thousands of weddings and this was the best cake he'd ever had. My wife also went over there several times before the wedding and brought home goodies each time. They make some really good bakery goods there as well. SUGAR HIGH! Stopped in on the way to the brewery before a wedding - and we were on the hungry side. Everything looked amazing. They have cream puffs the size of your head! My friend that brought us here picked up a dozen cream pie type things - kinda like little debbie oatmeal ones - but a thousand times better. Her husband met us at the brewery - he had also stopped on his way and picked up a dozen of those little pieces of heaven. We got an eclair type thing that turned out to be a chocolate covered cream puff - I just wanted a bite, but i ate half of it (the other half already eaten by the hubs). We tried a couple of choc cakes with a choc or mint cream on top and then dipped in chocolate - omg - so good. And lastly we cannot forget the chocolate cupcake with salted caramel - amazing. Apparently they have a location in St Cloud - which will be a little more convenient to make a trip on the way up cabin-ing and I hope they have cream puffs the size of my head there too! read more

We took our family to CSB this morning. While observing my wife and children enjoy some fresh-baked goodies, i strongly regretted my decision to go vegan. However, in having enjoyed CSB on numerous occasions, I feel very qualified to insist it is the best bakery in MN. They offer a wide array of fresh-baked items. I am a fan of the glazed donuts, which have a wonderful crisp crust complimented by a deliciously moist dough. Leading up to lent you can score Patschkes, a heavenly pastry best described as a custard filled long john on steroids. They serve Boyd's coffee, and generally have 5-6 selections to choose from. One could easily observe that the coffee is not the premium drink one might grab at A coffee shop, you are not visiting this place for the coffee. Likewise, their Highlinder Grog blend is rather exceptional, if not a tad dilute. There is an excellent selection of flavored creamers available to compensate for those who prefer their coffee strong. Visiting the CSB is a cultural experience. It is one of the most "Minnesotan" experiences I have had. The layout is cozy, even when busy. The service is top notch. One is always greeted by a team with smiling faces with members who are knowledgable and patient. While the service and food are is top notch, do not expect to break the bank while visiting. Your dollar goes a long way at the CSB. The pricing is very fair - almost too fair for the quality one receives. If you live in the area and have never visited, put this on the top of your bucket list. Likewise if you are traveling through, make an effort to stop on...
