While the section looks amazing it's missing the personal touch that's offered in pharmacy and beauty department stores in terms of service. The sections are well stocked but should you need advice it's not available or on offer. The store is definitely easy on the eye and there are plenty of self serve checkouts and checkout counters to get you in and out in a reasonable time.

There is also a members club card which donates a portion of the money you spend to a charity of your choosing. The staff are all helpful and friendly, if you can't find something on the shelves they will always check out the back. Look out for the guy who stocks the tissues in the first aisle, he's quite a character!

They make the friendly talkative IGA worker on the TV ads look cold and shut-off. These guys understand the community spirit of Annandale and deliver outstanding service accordingly. The people of Annandale have petitioned thus far successfully against the construction of a supermarket super-centre in the area. Annandale is at heart a village and is a village with heart, and the people aren't willing to give that up. They shop locally, even if their IGA can't always compete with the big guns' discounts. Annandale IGA have their own bakery, a good range of fruit and veg, yoghurts, cheeses and your usual packaged supermarket goods. They also have a really nice selection of flowers which brighten up the shop-front and add to the beauty of this little village.

I thought I had been given a bad bit of information when I asked…read morewhere the nearest grocery store was located, for in the States, if there are even Woolworths left, they are the old "five and dime" type stores that stock a bunch of stiff but not groceries. But here it was. Conveniently located to my hotel on the lower level of the mall ( another misnomer for me for I was told it was on the 2nd level, which I automatically assumed was upstairs and not down) plenty of fresh produce, lots of fresh deli items and even a number of drug store items. The check out was fast and effiencient and I loved that credit card orders under $35 do not require a signature. All in all super convenient, decent prices and a large selection for a city center location.

Nortons has a great selection of olives (my picks: the manchego stuffed, anchovy stuffed, Sicilian and chilli stuffed) and cheeses, plus I'm sure they've got a good range of deli meats as well - I should say that as a non-meateater I didn't really pay this much attention. Aside from the antipasto ingredients, Nortons has fantastic selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, which is fantastic when the Coles upstairs disappoints. Not only is everything stacked and presented immaculately, but the grocers are more than willing to help you choose the right produce, selecting the one that's just ripe enough for whenever you may need it. They have a great selection of fresh and dry pastas, passatas and various other Italian ingredients, and come Christmas and Easter times their shelves are loaded with dozens of panettone varieties - my boyfriend's Italian mum (not a Sydney-sider) has us source on from Nortons every holidays. Given all it's good points, and the fact that Norton Street Grocer is open 'til 7pm almost every night, I have no excuse for missing it. Perhaps its just to ensure I don't eat that well all the time.
