I brought a dress in for Wendy to sell on consignment last summer. She said she would take it and to come back in six weeks to see if it had sold, as she was going to switch to autumn clothes then. I asked if I should be signing a contract and she said no. That should have been a red flag for me right there. But instead I gave her my business card and the dress and left the store, not feeling right about it. I went back in six weeks, and she didn't know what I was talking about, and said she wouldn't have taken any clothes without me signing a contract. She finally found my name written in her book, but had no idea where the dress was or even if she had it. She told me to come back in a week. I came back and she still said she didn't know anything about it. I described the dress in detail, but she was just very curt with me. Wendy took my phone number again, and said she would call me when she found it. Well, of course she never called me. I never got my $250 dress back nor did I get paid for it. I felt I couldn't push it as there was no contract and she kept denying she had the dress. I have learned from that - always get it in writing, but I feel as though she stole my dress from me. I would never bring anything there on consignment again and would warn anyone who wants to bring anything there. I won't even shop there again, as she is unprofessional, disrespectful, and rude. read more

An older woman with short brown hair and bangs working here today (Aug 28th, 2021) was body shaming her customers. One lady pointed to a dress she liked, and the worker said, "maybe let's start with a dress that will fit you." Another young girl was about to try on a pair of pants, and the worker said, "you do realize that those are a size zero?" The girl pointed out very kindly that the tag said they were a size 8. The worker rudely asked if she looked at the waistline and aggressively told her that she's been doing this for 35 years. The store is tiny, so everyone could hear her commenting on these women's bodies. This store is not worth your time or money. read more

Carrying a mix of old and new clothing, Colette's is an ever-changing shopping experience. It's located on a relatively quiet block in Lower Lonsdale, but I'm always drawn in by the cute clothes on the sales rack outside when they're open. Even when the store is closed, I love to peer in at their cute window displays - always a fun arrangement of those boxy purses with a bedazzled image of Audrey Hepburn, interspersed with shiny necklaces draped over scarves and shoes. The store itself is small, but packed with the owner's handpicked stock of consignment clothing. A quarter of the store is given over to new items. All along the walls, beneath the racks, are shoes, also on consignment. The women who work there love to dress up the customers, so if you have trouble finding what you like, let them guide you. They really love clothes, and shoes, and jewellery - and it shows. I've been really happy with almost everything I've bought at Colette's, and I'm 100% happy with the experiences I've had shopping here. read more

In a pinch yesterday I popped into Colette's hoping to find a dress for a fashion function I'd foolishly forgotten. While I struck out in that department, I did leave with a beautiful vintage clutch with a peacock feather beaded across the front. I got many compliments on it all night and it was a steal at only $35. Wonderful mixture of feathered accessories, vintage shoes, dresses and skirts as well as cute, affordable new pieces that won't run you the risk of accidentally matching your friends (an Aritzia-esque hazard). Plus: the lovely saleswoman heroically tried to zip me up into a little vintage (think Mad Men) frock. It couldn't be done, but she tried and didn't make me feel badly for not fitting into it. read more

I had a really terrible experience here. It started off wonderful when I made a purchase from one of the sales associates: Branwen (who was REALLY super lovely)-- but, when it came to wanting to make an exchange with store owner and manager: Wendy-- it was an absolute nightmare. All I want to say, because it's an incredibly long story, is that: I came in with honesty, sincerity, and kindness (which doesn't always happen with dissatisfied customers, but coming from a retail/customer service background, I wanted to be a gem of a customer and actually be NICE when I returned something.) To which I was returned with a rude, condescending, and aggressive behaviour from the owner Wendy. All I can advise to you, if you chose to shop here (which you REALLY shouldn't, as you're just putting your hard-earned money into Wendy's greedy pockets) make SURE to DOUBLE and TRIPLE check that the "code" of the item you're purchasing, that will be HANDWRITTEN on your receipt, is correct. In a nutshell, because of this archaic system, I'm now out of hard-earned $$ and had a terrible experience. I went to exchange my ONE and ONLY purchase I've ever made there...and Wendy wouldn't accept it because the receipt was "wrong". I had no other receipt. I've only stepped foot in that shop once (well, twice if you include when I tried to exchange it). And have only made ONE purchase-- I ONLY HAVE ONE RECEIPT!! I have nothing else. She said according to the code, I bought something COMPLETELY different. I have NOTHING to combat her idiotic logic. She wasn't even patient, or kind about it. Incredibly rude and sarcastic and I'm ashamed I ever gave her a single penny of mine, let alone let her toy with my emotions and belittle my intellect. She tried to make me feel stupid when it wasn't warranted and I've honestly done NOTHING wrong. Her employee made a mistake. And that's it. But to save a penny, she wouldn't believe me, or even entertain the idea that an accident on a HANDWRITTEN RECEIPT SYSTEM could EVER happen. There was a lot of her finger-pointing (right in my face, mind you) and telling me that I'm the one making the mistake. You've been warned-- don't shop here. Seriously. read more

I agree with the other reviews that Colette's is a fun place to shop, but do NOT consign there. I had the unpleasant experience of being treated as though I were some kind of criminal simply for asking politely about the status of my consignment. I then attempted to take back the rest of my consignment since my contract was up. Of course the items could not be found. I was not satisfied with the amount I received for several high-end items that were sold -- $60 for items totalling more than $500, including a ring that I know was sold for more than $100 -- although I did not say so. The second time I consigned there (I know, stupid me) the same thing happened. One of her employees kindly went looking for my things that hadn't been sold only to be told by Wendy, the owner, that "she had more important things to do" and to stop looking. When I returned again for the rest of my things after calling and being told by Bronwyn that everything had been sold but one item, Wendy (the owner) gave a big sigh and spent about two minutes in the back room before saying she couldn't find it and I would have to come back. There was only one other customer in the store and she was busy trying lots of things on so I told her it wasn't convenient for me to come back since I didn't live nearby. Needless to say, she wouldn't go look again. I got the measly $30 that represented about $250 worth of clothing and that was given with an attitude. I can't believe she behaved so rudely (and unprofessionally) especially since as a customer I had bought a lot at her store (and brought several high-spending friends there as well more than once) and consigned items she was more than happy to take. Colette's has some interesting things and Bronwyn is very helpful, but I won't shop where I am disrespected. My friends will not be going there again either after hearing about my experiences. I suggest Wendy get out of the consignment end of the business since she doesn't enjoy it and neither do her consignees judging from the reviews and my experience. I hope losing several customers who like to shop and have the means to do so was worth it to her. read more

I recently brought some items for consignment. I came back 3 months later to bring additional items and then i was told that I didn't have an account with them. When I pointed out one of the biggest priced item which I had brought I was then told by the owner that it didn't belong to me. However, very politely told me that she would look into it for me. This has been going on for one year. I have no choice now but to take action against her. If she had a good sense of customer service she would have taken care of the problem or done some kind of a cash reimbursement. Instead she has given me the run around for a whole year...nice People don't understand that one bad customer some times can finish them with all the social media now a days...oh well. I would have been happy with even a penny because it would showed me that she really cares and is genuine. But not the case. Sorry read more

Found this store about a year ago. Great staff great items and I love the service they give! Always helping you find the perfect treasure! Wendy is super friendly and brawnwyn is great a putting pieces together for every occasion. This is a horrible place! Four times she -Wendy- sent me away because she can not find my stuff I even called the police. I can not believe that she can get away with these kinds of business morals! Three weeks ago she told me one of my items sold and last week when I went back to get the money she said that she had no idea how much my item sold for?!/? LOOK IN YOUR BOOK LADY! One of my items I wanted back vanished and no payment for it either.She can not find half my stuff so I can not even collect them. Anyone reading this: Make sure this is the last place you consider for consignment! Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about M.L.'s experience at Colette's. My experience has been more like Christine's. I've been in a number of times and have really enjoyed their selection of new clothes and jewelry. Very cute and very reasonably priced. I haven't been all that impressed with her consignment section and have stuck to the new stuff. I'll reconsider shopping there, but would love to hear from other people about their experience with Colette's before I give up on them. read more

Great find in North Van! This store has a wide variety of styles for every shape and size. From vintage to pin up dresses and modern consignment items, everyone will find something they love. It is merchandised so well - outfits are put together so all you have to do is try on and leave happy! Accessories galore - purses, jewellery, hats, gloves, scarves. Everything a girl could want. The quality of the consignment items is fantastic. Prices are reasonable. You'll be tempted by the gorgeous window displays - you just have to go in and see for yourself the treasures inside. I was introduced to Colette's a few years ago and have been in there MANY times since then. Store owner (Wendy) and her employee (Branwen) are always so welcoming and friendly. Terrible experience with consigning here. I brought a load of clothing in about a year ago and was told that they "only accept the hottest colours and things bought from high end retailers". Apparently RW&Co and Banana Republic sometimes don't count if they are not the "hottest colour" even if all the major retailers are showcasing those colours. I had one item sold for about half a year before I even found out as it's impossible to get through on the phones, even though they tell you when you consign that they will call you when an item is sold. Then they lost one item, and one of the salespersons told me exactly that and asked me to come back when the owner was there. The owner told me nobody in the store would tell me they lost my item, and it's been yet another six months of running around trying to figure out if they had sold my sweater or lost it or given it to charity. I'm completely disappointed with Colette's. I took a load of my clothes (a few designer, the rest regular items) 3 months ago, right before I moved out of town (I let the owner Wendy know that i would be back in town off and on). I came back into town a month after I moved and Wendy couldn't find my paperwork that had my name on it and all the items that I had brought in/had been sold- however, I couldn't find any of my pieces that I had brought in in her store. She told me that she would call me within 4 days. After 2 weeks and no phone call I called and was told that they would call me back. I've called on numerous occasions to no avail. Wendy has "misplaced" my paperwork and hasn't offered a solution to this problem or taken ownership of losing my paperwork and basically "scamming" me. If I had known that Colette's was so dis-organized and really could care less about Customer Service, I would not have brought my clothes into her shop. I'm completely disappointed and feel like I've been scammed. I told a gf of mine about this and she's having the exact same problem with Colette's. I would highly recommend many other consignment stores and will NEVER step foot in Colette's (and recommend that you don't either!) read more

Colette's Frocks is my favourite small neighbourhood clothing store. The store is small, so it is not the kind of store to go to expecting to complete a shopping mission in just one visit. However, it is a great store to pop in regularly for a chance to get a beautiful coat, dress or unique high-end accessories. They get new things coming in regularly which makes the shopping experience exciting. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but never pressure you to purchase anything. I have found most of my office and party clothes there over the months and always get compliments on all my pieces from this store. I have not had as much luck trying to consign clothes there. They are extremely picky and none of my clothes were accepted. But again, I keep clothes for a long time without parting from them and most of the clothes in their store are either less than a year old or over 20 years old high-end vintage pieces. read more

I LOVE Colette's!! I've been shopping there every once and a while for since the past 6 years and almost never walk out empty handed! The consignment collection has a great mix of clothing, generally tons of different brands, everything from Lululemon to True religion and Rock and Republic, which are very reasonably priced and usually in perfect mint condition. They also carry tons of unique, classy vintage clothing (especially pin-up style type stuff) Although I do find the new stuff to be quite pricey so I usually stick with consignment. The sales women are both very wonderful, lovely people, who help me out constantly, without being pushy or trying too hard to sell me something that is less than fabulous. They are both super friendly and I always find myself having a wonderful conversation with them! I love supporting this small business and pop in whenever I'm looking for some cute new clothes for much cheaper than retail value or when I'm just in the area! read more
