I had to give up my apartment, my new life, and my new life partner and move back to Kansas City (where I grew up and where my family still lives). I fell into an extremely deep depression about the collapse of all my plans and the loss of my partner, and knew I needed help. I was referred to Bob Feuer (pronounced Fewer) by my then-psychiatrist. I was looking for a therapist who is gay or gay-friendly and found that in Bob. He has been extremely good and caring when I was at probably the lowest point in my life, and over the past couple of years has helped see me through a really deep slough of despair. I really appreciate the help he has been to me, and the support I've received from him as my depression finally lifted (I'm glad to say it's gone now). If you're looking for a kind, caring therapist, I can heartily recommend Bob. He does a lot of relationship therapy, helps with coming-out issues, and does all kinds of other general therapy. They have gone so far as to hang up in my face twice after scheduling an appointment and then canceling because of a sensitive or perhaps biased nurse practioner, who claimed that I was rude to her simply by expressing my discomfort during a visit. I guess she expects everything to be roses when a person is sick. Kelsey, put on your 'big girl ' hat and understand when a person is sick, they might not be as pleasant as you would like and know it's not personal. I will not be labeled 'the angry black woman' or will I allow you to get away with treating me so poorly for expressing my concerns to you during an appointment, one that I quite frankly don't remember because it was insignificant. In the meantime, please seek training - in diversity and inclusion, unconscious bias and definitely, customer service. Despite all of this mess today, I have received the best care from the best provider in Dr. Sherard. So will I be prohibited from seeing my doctor because their behavior continues to go unchecked? Before today, I didn't know there was a problem. I'm still reeling over the fact that they hung up in my face, the power they have! Medication that he deemed medically necessary. He did re-prescribe me the medication that has legally actionable side-affects. Just not the other medications. Meaning he went through my medication schedule and hand-picked only the medications that would get him in trouble to stop abruptly. It was a spite thing, i'm fairly certain. So if you are looking for a doctor, know that doctor Uddin holds the mental health of his patience as ransom.
