Horrible. Selfish. Careless. Unprofessional. No punctuality…read more My friend had a very disappointing experience at this facility. The food that was served often did not match what was listed on the menu, which was frustrating for patients who were expecting specific meals. There were also multiple scheduled group sessions where patients sat around waiting, only for the instructor to never show up. As a result, patients spent most of the day doing little to NOTHING. Communication with the facility was also extremely poor. We left more than 10 voicemails over the course of their stay, and not a single one was returned. It was quite literally impossible to get anyone to answer the phone. The therapists only spent about maybe 10 minutes assessing my friend before making conclusions about what was wrong. It felt rushed and didn't seem like enough time to fully understand their situation, history, or individual needs. Mental health assessments should feel thorough and personalized, but instead the process felt superficial and left us with little confidence that they had an accurate understanding of their condition. The daily check-ins are not thorough enough to have a decent understanding of one's mentality. The discharge process was equally frustrating. The plans were constantly changing, and no one could provide a clear discharge date. My friend's mental health actually declined during their stay due to the lack of structure and uncertainty. It ultimately reached the point where their mother had to come to the facility herself and insist on his release. I could go on but overall, this was a very negative experience, and I would not recommend this facility based on what we witnessed. The one bright spot was Robert, who was personable, compassionate, and treated everyone with kindness and understanding. Unfortunately, one great staff member could not make up for the many issues with the facility as a whole. Whoever manages this needs to do extremely better or find a different field to work in, these are people's lives in jeopardy!!! This place did nothing but weep negativity into an already struggling person.

I was a patient at Cottonwood Springs for 5 days. I self admitted into the facility with the idea…read morethat (following Kansas state law) I would be able to leave whenever I deemed necessary. I was not only told that i couldn't leave, they also said they "didn't know how much they could tell me regarding that". I was very disappointed in my care. I was told they would "monitor my progress" after day 3 but I kept reiterating that I didn't feel it was necessary for me to be kept there any longer. After finally being able to sign an AMA (against medical advice) to leave, my nurse practitioner at the facility told me she wouldn't prescribe my medication for my anxiety because of the AMA. Almost like a punishment. Overall I was not very pleased with staying there. The food was hit or miss (mostly miss) and it didn't seem that the staff were very good at coordinating any plans for my discharge.
