I had such a great experience at this barre workout class! The overall vibe was really nice, and…read morethe music had a perfect tone -- upbeat enough to keep you motivated but still calming and focused. You do have to wear Pilates socks, so make sure to bring a pair. Parking is easy, but I recommend getting there a little earlier since it's located near Trader Joe's and other businesses, so the area can get a bit busy. The staff were all very kind and welcoming, and the studio itself was super clean and well maintained. What I really enjoyed about this class is that while you definitely feel the burn and get sore (in the best way!), the instructor made sure we stretched multiple times throughout -- at least three different stretch moments during class. That balance of strengthening and stretching made such a difference. I'll definitely be coming back!

The minute you walk in, you are greeted and everyone is SO friendly. PB San Rafael is my new community. Lots of class offerings so it's easy to find a time that fits with my work schedule. Super clean location, the space is welcoming and just makes my day better when I walk in. The instructors are also top notch! I can't stop raving about PB San Rafael. I started with the 8 classes per month and ended up switching to the unlimited membership before my first month was over, and that was one of my best decisions. Stop in and check out a class, you won't regret it!

The workout is very challenging, but low impact, so you can do it several times a week while saving all your joints! Before I realized the studio had re-opened, I tried out Pure Barre. While the class itself at Pure Barre was ok, there was zero interaction between the instructor and students. At Bear Flag Fitness, the instructors are continually helping with form to maximize your results and keep you safe. They also keep the energy up with their encouragement, and they know the name of every single student. It's definitely more of a "community" here. I have tried a lot of different workouts over the past few decades...and this is the only one I've been able to stick to for over 3 years--partly because of the community, and partly because of the undeniable results! I have never had toned arms or back before doing this workout. I just love it here.

We were both completely dying, but will definitely be back; I've already signed up for a monthly auto-renewal membership. The people, both staff and attendees, were so warm and friendly and chill - and working out in a mask wasn't nearly as uncomfortable as I thought it would be (or maybe I was being challenged *just enough* to not notice the mask). I'm certain I'll be sore tomorrow but my joints, which I've mistreated for years, won't hate me. What more could you ask for!? I'm super excited to try more classes; this is going to be a great, ass-kicking, toning workout to fold into my swimming and Peloton routine, and maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to do a decent push-up set again sometime soon!

I've always enjoyed a structured workout and this is what TDM gives you. But like any studio anywhere, there are always pros and cons. PROS: - Clean studios - friendly staff - there is a shower and a type of day care for kids - challenging exercises that can be modified. - free parking CONS: - there's only one shower and bathroom so it can get packed real quick. - the space (at least in Corte madera) is very small and tight. - they're not a lot of day care options available. - not as many classes as some would like, especially in the evenings. - not a very diverse clientele- but that's not the studios fault (at least I hope it's not) - parking is limited - VERY EXPENSIVE. And they are always finding ways to charge you extra. For example, there's a no show fee of $15/class. I get that they charge to encourage you to go to class because another person could've take your spot if you canceled but they don't actually have that many people going in at once. Every time I went in, there was always space. For unlimited bar classes, I believe it costs $179 but if you want to engage in unlimited cycling and barre classes, the price jumps to over $200. I understand that these classes aren't suppose to be cheap because you are paying for the instructors time and the studio space but yesh, that's quite steep, especially since it's not a Pilates studios that requires a specific machine or any at all. The introductory package (21 days of unlimited barre and cycling) cost $75! I think that's what I'm most put off by. They are still charging so much for someone just to try it out and they don't even give you the full month to try it out. I have decent job in the Bay Area that allows me to pay for that but I still don't want to throw down that much. I gave it a try but I don't think I'd be going back. I've seen a lot of other studios that make a greater commitment to their students health at a much lesser cost and I think I'll support those types of studio. For example, Red Dragon Yoga studios also costs over $100 (I think it's around $129) for unlimited studio use but they have an intro deal of $30 for unlimited yoga at any of their locations. They also (as far as I know) don't threaten students with extra costs if they suddenly can't show up. Again, there are pros and cons to everything so I'd recommend trying at least once, that is if you want to spend money here.

I've learned about the small muscles in my back and shoulders, work my abs, quads, arms, all of which help me in all other exercise - bike, climbing, TRX, yoga - and with my posture at work. Each studio has their own personality just like their communities. I've done years of Bikram, many yoga, pilates, TRX and other classes around the county. I always come back to TDM and love it here. I feel so much better even though I may be sore. The teachers have been mostly fabulous! Yes, they've known their clients for years so it can get a bit chatty but they always come back and focus. Last note: I didn't really discover the value of it fully till I did a 30 day thing and went to 18 classes. Then I found out how hard it REALLY was once I started to learn the right muscles and posture!

As my babies turned to toddlers the class was such fun for them: silly songs, lots of giggles, and really sweet friendships among the kiddos! And once I was back into my racing the class was such a great foundation for my strength: I PR'd my last 10K when I was going to class regularly! Basically the class can be whatever you need & want in your life for all the crazy stages of parenting. It's super kid friendly, but also you don't need to bring your kid. And sometimes there's even more chatting than working out if that's what you need - at least that's what I needed some days ;)

I always equate them with 1980's type Jane Fonda/Jamie Lee Curtis type aerobics classes. I also am someone who tends to be both shy and uncoordinated, so group exercise was just not a good fit for my personality, or so I thought. Although I had been an avid exerciser before children, after having kids I felt like my life wasn't my own and I was having a lot of trouble making space for myself in my life. I decided to try a free class because, why not, it was free. I was pretty much hooked after that class and signed up for the 8 week session. I knew that if I signed up and paid in advanced, that I would make it a priority to show up for myself. After that 8 week session, I did another 8 week session, then another one then another one and now I'm doing my 5th or 6th session. I don't think that I'll ever stop doing these classes! I'll do them as long as they offer them. There are so many great benefits: 1. You get to exercise with a fabulous group of smart, funny and kind Moms. 2. If for some reason it winds up that you have no childcare, don't worry about it, just bring your kiddos with you. Because we're all Moms we all get it, it's not like if you were to bring your kid to a Barry's Bootcamp or something. 3. The workouts are super challenging, but still fun. I was a competitive swimmer in high school and ran marathons and half marathons in my 20's, but NOW- despite the fact that I've had two children, I feel stronger than I ever have. 4. This is not about getting smaller or counting calories or losing weight, it's about carving out space for yourself, moving your body, challenging yourself and getting stronger so that you actually do feel more present in your life as a Mom and partner and in your work. 5. Lastly, there is a great component of community. We do Moms' night outs, talk on Facebook & Whatsapp group all week long, and we support each other in our personal goals. And personal goals don't have to be fitness goals. For instance, my most recent goal was to be more social, which, as an introvert was difficult for me to say, but everyone was so supportive and kind! This group is about holistic wellness, not just green smoothies, kale and HIIT training (although there is all that too!) but it's more focused on being a Mom and carving out a space for yourself to return to who you are, who you were before kiddos, and who you want to continue being. It's really difficult to lose your identity after you have kids and just get sucked up into Mommy world. F4M can help you to come back to you! I highly recommend checking it out.
