I was really excited to find a church so close to home. It is five minutes away and felt like a…read moreblessing. I have now attended three Sundays in a row. The worship music is beautiful, the pastor is engaging, and it is clear the congregation has put a lot of heart into creating a space where believers can worship. That said, my experience has been mixed. During my first visit, a woman who seemed to be part of the church's staff or outreach team kindly invited me to a women's Bible study. I appreciated that and truly wanted to join, but my schedule did not allow it. I let her know I would not make it but would attend Sunday services when I could. Over the next two weeks, that same woman repeatedly ignored me, even when I smiled, said hello, and reached out to shake her hand during the greeting portion of service. The third time, she actually looked at me, frowned, and said "I know" when I tried to introduce myself again, refusing to shake my hand. It was awkward and unpleasant. Not how or where I want to spend my day off with bad energy like that. I do not know what caused the negativity, but it gave off a really bad vibes, not what I expected from someone representing a church community. I am mentioning it here because interactions like that can really discourage newcomers who are simply seeking to worship and feel closer to God learn how they can improve themselves, and experience positive interactions with like Minded community on their day off. I may give this church another try because there are good things here, including great music, heartfelt preaching, and kind faces. But I hope leadership is more mindful about who they choose for outreach roles, because one person's attitude can cast a shadow over an otherwise bright congregation.

The people who pray with you really aim to compassionately intercede on your behalf. If you have kids, you can bring them to Kids Church. The teachers really care for your kids and help to make each week fun and beneficial to them. They love them, especially Ms. Debbie.

The people and rhythms have changed a lot over the years, but I think that is to be expected in a church that is pursuing God in such a transient city. Committing to be a part of this community has been a joy. They draw me deeper into relationship with God and tangibly reflect the love that he has for me. All that to say, you should definitely check it out and see if it is the community that God wants you to meet you in. Worst case scenario, we still provide free lunches every Sunday! They do a great job of being genuinely welcoming - without it being contrived or forced. My favorite part is the discussion after the sermon. Have questions? Ask them. Disagree? Additional insights? Voice your thoughts. Instead of a lecture of someone talking at you, Thad's makes it a discussion. SO helpful when remembering the lessons later. Enjoy!

We have attended several times, and the love and presence of the Lord are consistent even when the pastor is not speaking. They have several young families attending, and they offer a children's ministry so parents can participate in worship without the responsibility of caring for their little ones. I was touched by the Friday service before Easter Sunday; the word was relevant and contemplative. The worship music and songs paired perfectly with the message. This is a multi-ethnic congregation with many Playa community neighbors attending. I appreciate how Playa celebrates Christ and special occasions. We love the photo booth, the Mother's Day flowers, and the morning coffee. Playa is a growing, dynamic community church. I will be returning often.
