I've…read morefound St. Stephen's a welcoming spiritual community that accepts everyone on their journey of faith or lack thereof. I found it by googling Episcopalian churches since I was drawn to a denomination that took the Bible seriously but not necessarily literally (incorporating the geo-political context of the time), promoted social justice (they have community gardens and have a great urban internship program), embraced all (equality/inclusivity for all), realized that healing was a holistic endeavor (spiritual/mental/physical), and drew all their strength as a community from a loving God. I visited in early 2014 and haven't left. I wasn't overwhelmed by any fancy light shows or welcome teams, just real people ready to have hard conversations and really be the hands and feet of God to a world that is hurting and needs healing. Come, just as you are, and find refreshment in the middle of Hollywood.

Father Jaime is a wonderful preacher, always encouraging us to think more deeply about our faith and our ministry to bring church to the world. The music is amazing and uplifting. We are a super casual church and "come as you are" is our motto! I hope you will visit us one Sunday morning at 10:30am. Mise en Español 1:00pm and every third Sunday of the month is a bilingual noon service with a potluck that follows!

I don't really know what to say in a review of a church. How does one review a group of people? I…read moredon't know. But I'll say, I really like this place. I really like the people. I like the theology and the worship and the leaders and even the attempt at church coffee. If I should be more forthcoming and use the word "love" on a public forum, well then, let's call it that. LA's an interesting place. Everyone seems to be here looking for something. But everyone, everywhere, is looking for something. So, whatever you are looking for, I think you could find it here, if you want. No matter what stage you are in, faith wise, there's a place for you here amongst people trying their best to love God and love one another, and to do this thing together.  It's all I could really ask for.

Disclaimer: to be fair, I have only been attending this church since May…read more I was recommended that this was a liberal church because a queer friend visited here. The teachings have been decent, though very obviously avoiding anything political (which is funny because I was also told lots of top republican people go here, haha). It's very "we don't pick a side" vibes. Also very white...just being honest, as mixed race definitely noticed it. The main reason why I am moving on from this church is because truly it is really not consistently welcoming. They take a long break after worship to have kids go to their classes and in this space of time, it's extremely awkward if you show up alone. Apart from the sometimes on occasion greeting walking in the door, I would sit week after week dreading the break after worship where everyone was in their groups and either sat in pew alone or stood near tea area alone pretty much feeling invisible... Though the teaching is good, I guess maybe I was looking for more community and feeling accepted and this just has not been it. Clearly other people had different experiences and that's why they are in their own groups, but just in my experience...wasn't really welcoming church and ready to find friendlier people who also teach bible.

The people and rhythms have changed a lot over the years, but I think that is to be expected in a church that is pursuing God in such a transient city. Committing to be a part of this community has been a joy. They draw me deeper into relationship with God and tangibly reflect the love that he has for me. All that to say, you should definitely check it out and see if it is the community that God wants you to meet you in. Worst case scenario, we still provide free lunches every Sunday! (which is actually extra awesome because it allows us to get to know you!)

Visited for the first time this morning. Epicenter West LA church seems to be a younger generation,…read more20s and 30s very popular. Here's a little information about my visit. Parking: Street-- I arrived a few minutes late and was still able to find parking along the street. This church meets at a synagogue across the street from Trader Joe's. They have a small sign out front which is the only indicator that Epicentre meets there. Welcoming: from the moment I walked up the stairs, I was greeted by Lauren and Kenter. They were both super welcoming and super sweet. They seemed so happy to be greeting visitors and regular comers alike. We exchanged words for a few minutes and they gave me a name tag. Most people wear a name tag at the church. If you leave your visitor badge with your name as you exit, they will make you a permanent badge for when you return. The badges are all placed on a large board at the entrance of the church so you do not forget it from Sunday to Sunday. Kinda cool concept and very helpful to remember people's names. Worship: Lights were dimmed and the worship team with about five members did a great job with the music. I really enjoyed the songs and still have one that I've never heard stuck in my head. A few people lifted hands but does not seem to be the norm. Pretty small congregation but I understand there are a lot of people out sick this week so they say they may be missing about 30 or 40 people. Sermon: The message was brought by a young pastor name Steve. It was very short, probably about 15 minutes or less. Apparently the pastor and his whole family are out ill with the flu this week. We went back into worship and sang a few of the same songs we sang through the worship time. Between worship and the sermon, a young man came up and gave the announcements and provided information about the church as well as the Epicenter app they use to transmit information throughout the congregation. Snack and chat: They had a very cool concept and which I've never seen in a church. They provided snacks and encouraged people to hang around to visit and socialize. Lauren and Kenter came after service and brought me a little gift for visitors and we chatted again for a bit during snack and chat. Very sweet couple. I met the girl sitting behind me her name was, Shina. Life Groups: I went to visit the wall which has the connect groups locations and was greeted by a young doctor from UCLA carrying a baby. (Again, so friendly!) He explained the various groups. There did not seem to be one for my age group really (40s/single) but there seem to be plenty of groups for the younger generation and one even for married people. This was a friendly church, probably one of the friendliest churches I have ever attended. I would highly recommend it for the younger generation although it doesn't feel like there's much of a group my age. Seems to be multicultural although the largest population seems to be Asian. I would absolutely recommend this church to someone looking around for a home. Everyone was so friendly which makes it much easier to connect.

That said, we've been attending Epicentre West LA for a while now and can say that we feel really welcome here. The community is relatively small (church just started in February) but very welcoming. The pastor gives challenging sermons, grounded in Scripture, and always makes sure to make it relevant to life. We don't have kids, but know there's an excellent children's program. I also like that they're focused on meeting in "Lifegroups" during the week and we've really enjoyed being part of one. This is a great place to grow in your faith and learn how it can transform all aspects of life, not just Sunday mornings.

See examples of true love displayed in the working out of "your salvation with fear and trembling." The great commission is at the forefront - led by Tony Yu, saints are equipped to serve the saints and empowered by the Spirit to go out and faithfully proclaim the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There's even free food. I attended the pre-launch as well as assisted with the launch event on September 17th. What I found helpful was the opportunity to serve and the blessing of being served. I am challenged by the examples of the saints who put Christ on display with not only their lips but their steps.

The teaching of the word here is powerful, and Pastor Steve Cha does an exemplary job in his expository style of preaching. I also attend community group, with Pastor Ray Sevilla, who teaches us how to carefully and accurately exegete the word of God, line by line. His knowledge of scripture surpasses anyone I've met in the faith firsthand. I've attended many churches throughout LA, and this group is unique in the passion and heart they have to reach the lost, and in raising strong Christ-centered disciples. The musical worship team is quite gifted, and the hymns glorify God and support each sermon lyrically; leaving behind all of the fanfare experienced at some of the more "new age" types of churches in Los Angeles. You won't get any huge concert performances here, but you will be moved by Paul and Evelyn Yi's contribution of musical worship every weekend. I've been so fortunate to have become a welcomed member of this group who I now call family that in the Spirit I proposed to my future wife during service and the church has also been gracious enough to host our wedding and reception there as well! Amazing. Too many blessings to count. Come and join us at Grace City LA! Together we can bring the message of the Gospel through the Holy Spirit to a city who needs it so dire in these days and times.

Our youngest was in preschool at Pali Pres Preschool and we got a great feeling from the church through that experience. We then started going to church on Sundays, and our kids love going to Sunday School and all the children's activities. The Pastors are so warm and welcoming, and the music is just beautiful. There are coffee/refreshments outside after each service, which I love. It has given us an opportunity to meet other people, and really made us feel comfortable from the start. I can't say enough about what a wonderful church this is.

I live in this neighborhood - I'm happy we have a group like Bethel Lutheran Church trying to make a difference in our community. It is not their fault - do what I do when someone blocks my driveway- get them towed. They'll never do that again. People leave trash outside my house on Curson - people are inconsiderate generally; quit blaming an organization that has a heart!
