We will not recommend College Hunks to anyone. It is too costly, inefficient, and chaotic moving service. It took more than 5 hours and six men to move a few boxes and furniture from our old home to our new house, which is a 10-minute drive away. Update: I was contacted by the manager regarding this review after posting the original review and my experience was iffy. He made sure to check his boxes and apologize for the damage, but then he went on the attack and essentially accused me of being a keyboard warrior saying "I'm just trying to figure out why you waited months to post a 1 star review instead of contacting us right away." I will address this first. Mark, I am a graduate student and am very busy. But every so often, I walk past my speaker and see the damage and am reminded that the issue happened. So when I do have little bits of free time and I am reminded of it, I decide to inform the public of who they are doing business with. That's why there is some time between my reviews and the event that occurred. He also pointed out a discrepancy in my original post with the tip amount paid to each mover, which I edited out because I do value integrity and I guesstimated how much I actually tipped. Once he informed me of my error, I immediately corrected my error (funny how accountability works, right?) However, while my memory of the tip amount was blurred, my memory of the mover dropping my speaker on the concrete is as clear as day. The manager also again brought up the allegation that my moving truck was packed poorly and that he was looking at the picture as evidence. However, I believe he is only judging the "sloppiness" on our road trip items, which did appear sloppy only because we were accessing them regularly throughout the road trip. We had packs of water, suitcases (for hotels), pet food and carriers and then miscellaneous items like vacuum cleaner and such that were laying on the tail end of the storage area. They were sloppy because we accessed it regularly and it shifted while driving. However, the movers in Tampa, whom I watched pack the truck, made sure all of my actual moving boxes and valuable items were high and tight and packed the delicates and electronics against cushioned furniture, my mattress and blankets to avoid damage. So no sir, the truck was NOT sloppy. Only my personal travel items that I took out every few hours. Furthermore, he asked how new my speaker was, as if that mattered as to how they damaged it. I said I got it last Black Friday (2022) so it was under a year old when they dented it. He asked me to dig up a receipt for the speaker so they could replace it and took my name, number and email down to allegedly send me some "damage claim form" to attach the receipt to. He said they initially sent this email with the claim form to my mother-in-law way back when we made the original complaint after the move, but she said she didn't receive it. Now after he took down my email and repeated it back to me to ensure accuracy, he said he would send me the damage form and I never received it either. I still do not recommend doing business with College Moving Hunks East Lansing, especially after this exchange. Mark, please do not contact me again. I don't like your attitude as a manager and I'll just deal with my dented speaker. I hope you find some inner peace at some point so that you can be more cordial with your next customers that have an issue. read more

Over the last 30 years of residence in East Lansing, we've used several different haulers, and these folks were FAR and away THE best. They arrived early; the two workers - Tom & Said - were SUPER friendly, funny, and kind; they finished QUICKLY; and the price was GREAT. They hauled away our old swingset plus various items of garage junk (not pictured in the attached photo); all for just over $200! All in all, a FANTASTIC A++ experience. Just be sure that they give you all their costs and charges before you agree to them and give them a deposit. They came over and looked at what I had to move. Later emailed me an estimate. I gave the ok and gave a deposit. They then sent a conformation email on the appointment date and time. In this email it also listed extra charges you will get. Some of which (but not all) were charges for mattress covers and television boxes that they require. Since they came and looked at my stuff they know I had 2 flat screens and a king bed (3 mattresses). I called and asked if these charges were in the estimate they gave me they said, no. I don't know why not since again they came in and looked over what I had. Anyway I'm glad it happened because I ended up using a different local company that did a great job and were $400.00 less. We had them come to tear down and haul away an old wooden playhouse. They guys who came did a good job but the estimate they gave us was about 30% less than the actual cost on the day of. I know it's an estimate but that seems pretty far off to me. If I had known it was going to cost that much, I'm not sure I'd have done it. read more
