Law School 101: It's not what you know, what you feel or think, it's what you can prove in court Joe. (I did also have an attorney but most of my preparation was done with AI). Big thanks to Joe Wolch and Kathryn Mignani for representing my ex in both our divorce and a restraining order case. In my opinion, it lacked evidentiary support and may have been tactically motivated, as I've come to learn is not uncommon in Family Law cases for leverage in negotiating. For a marriage that lasted just six months with roughly around $5,000 in total community property, no kids, no houses, they still managed to rack up over $57,220 in legal fees on her side. This review is legitimate and follows Yelps TOS as it deals with my experience with them being the OC in this case. Their client (my ex) was ultimately found not credible and impeached multiple times in court, leading Honorable Judge Wendy Coates to dismiss the TRO completely. And at the end of the divorce case, she had to write me a equalizing check for property division.... Kathryn Mignani specifically was the attorney that questioned me when I was on the stand testifying. During my testimony, I observed Kate Mignani struggling with basic questioning and often stuttering over her words, and seemingly not able to respond with how I was answering the questioning. From my perspective, she seemed unprepared to challenge testimony that I had carefully and anticipated for months. I studied for hours on how to properly answer these questions and Mignani didn't grasp I was able to circumvent what she was wanting me to say. In my opinion, this demonstrated a lack of competence in trial advocacy. My attorney and I were expecting at least a little more in-depth questioning but got nothing of substance. I have no formal legal training, so I actually used AI and large language models to simulate potential cross-examination questions from Wolch, Mignani, and their paralegal (I believe her name is Kate Gums). I fed the system our prior correspondences and noted their behavioral patterns in how they reacted to documents my attorney, Aaron, and I would submit. This helped me prepare extensively for what I anticipated would be a much more thorough line of questioning. The AI was actually more in-depth and subjectively speaking, harder to answer than Mignani herself. In my personal opinion, it was fairly obvious from the start that this wasn't truly a domestic violence case, but rather an attempt to manage my ex's public image. Now I don't know whether or not Wolch's team advised my ex this claim had no foundation, but one can only hope they did. Looking back, I'm surprised Wolch's firm chose to proceed. But seeing the attorney's fees disclosure each party exchanged, showing around $57,220 plus several days of trial that hadn't been billed yet, it now puts the situation into a clearer perspective. I left the courtroom genuinely surprised that someone this terrible in trial advocacy could be in active legal practice. Joe Wolch, who I assume owns the firm and I'd assume is responsible for approving this case and continuing it to depths of ridiculousness, continued to pursue the matter despite the absence of any credible evidence indicating wrongdoing on my part. This resulted in an unwarranted challenge and attempt to ruin my reputation and professional standing. I understand not every attorney shines in litigation, but in my perspective, this felt more like someone winging it than advocating effectively. Kate Mignani was absolutely terrible at questioning me up on the stand and I'd highly advise contacting me if you want to see the transcripts of how awful she was during the trial. If anyone is interested in reviewing the partially redacted public transcript or the case itself, feel free to reach out, everything was said on the record and is available for verification. Thank you again, Joe and Kate, for representing my ex throughout both our brief marriage and a lengthy restraining order dispute. I googled and found that Levine Family Law advertises this service. They charged, as I recollect, $3500. The forms went in fine, but then I waited for months for the court order to be entered. At first they said six weeks, but the timeline kept slipping. I started having calls with Levine asking what was happening--they said the SF court was backed up and that it would take time. But it became clear that they did not have a direct line to the courthouse and had a very difficult time getting hold of human beings over there: they were essentially blind. I asked for a call with my lawyer, Stan, but was informed he had left the practice (nobody had told me). I had a call with the office manager Katie, and she basically told me I'd just have to wait. It was very nice and all, but she said I just needed to wait. I live about 20 min drive from the courthouse, so after that call I got so frustrated I got in my car, and I went to the courthouse. There was no line at the records office. They pulled my application, and the clerk said he'd put it on the top of the stack on Monday. By Tuesday, my name/change order was granted, and I had my certified copies. What makes me angry is that I was repeatedly told that the courthouse was busy and, essentially, incompetent, but actually every interaction I've had with them, whether for this or for other records requests, has been prompt and efficient. There is almost never a line; they are very helpful in answering questions. It has become clear to me that Levine Family Law merely scapegoats the courthouse, and that the true issue is their inability to get anyone there on the phone. In the USA, we don't hire lawyers merely to fill out forms--we hire them to shepherd us through the legal process. Levine family law certainly would never be as cavalier about the fate of a child custody or divorce decree--it is only their trans clients that they leave to fend for themselves, twisting in the wind for months. It is unconscionable to charge people $3500 and then be unwilling to take twenty minutes to, say, show up at the courthouse and make sure the decree actually gets entered. If you're not willing to do what it takes to get the decree granted, please don't offer it as a service. As it is, I have no doubt that if I'd filled out the forms myself and gone to the courthouse on my own, I'd have gotten everything done much quicker and more cheaply. I want to reiterate that the forms they filed were apparently fine, but they had absolutely no orientation to actually following up with the court. No doubt they will respond to say that they did their job when they filed the forms. But I was advised by Stan specifically that he was going to be in my corner, following up on these forms. When a firm charges for this service, they are charging for peace of mind--the idea that they will handle everything. If all you want is someone to file forms, maybe this law office is fine, but if you want someone who will make sure the decree actually gets granted, you shouldn't go with them.

She very strongly recommended to file an ex parte order which I agreed to as I trusted her judgement. Fast forward a few weeks later to when her law office filed the ex parte order, she couldn't be in court because she was to busy so she told me Lorena Garcia would be able to be there for this upcoming court date. If not she said it would look bad if I waited for her to be available. Ever since then I never heard a word from Vanessa, she was the one I wanted to be working with originally, but it felt as though she had no time to deal with me or my case and just pushed me off to someone else. She should have been up front about this from the beginning instead of handing me over to Lorena. When it came to the actual court date Lorena was not good, very soft spoken and did nothing! She said she was going to bring up all these points to the judge but literally said 2 things and was done. After court when we were talking she even went as far as to say I should "Look up my husbands ex girlfriends to see if I could get information out of them and get them to write a statement." Why would I ever do that?? This is the advice that you give me? This place does NOT care about their clients, they only care about making money off you! After court I told Lorena that I wanted to drop the ex parte order. She then proceeded to charge me an extra $3K when she specifically said she could not work on my case any further. The one thing I asked her to do was to drop the order and she did not do it! WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY DO NOT GO HERE!
